Keep AZ Drug Free Opinion Piece

By Dr. Ed Gogek

There’s a joke that says to understand a politician, just listen to whatever he says, and assume the opposite. That’s not really accurate about most politicians, but lately I’ve been listening to people from the Marijuana Policy Project, the group behind the so-called medical marijuana referendum, Proposition 203. And that’s one group for whom the old joke seems to hold true. Here’s what I mean:

The first thing they say at every speech is that Prop 203 is only about people with serious illnesses like cancer and multiple sclerosis. However, Montana’s law is similar to Prop 203, and in Montana only 3 percent of the medical marijuana patients have serious illness. In California, it’s only 2 percent. The other 97-98 percent have minimal problems or none at all. The most common diagnosis is pain, and that pain can be from a hackey-sack injury or occasional headaches. One woman got marijuana because her high heels hurt. In San Diego, 75 percent of the marijuana patients are under age 40, and 12 percent are teenagers. In Boulder, Colorado, the marijuana dispensaries are all on college campuses. In other words, the one thing we can say for certain is that it’s definitely not about people with serious illness. It’s for pot-smokers with no medical problems at all.

They keep saying marijuana will only be prescribed by licensed physicians. Technically true, but it conjures up the image of doctors sitting down with their long-term patients and discussing marijuana. In reality, almost all the marijuana is prescribed by pot doctors who often advertise that they see patients one time only, for as little as 5 minutes, and hand out marijuana cards to nearly everyone. It’s not medical care and there’s no doctor-patient relationship. If these doctors did this with any other drug, they’d lose their licenses. So, yes, they’re licensed physicians, but they only stay licensed because medical marijuana laws shield them from the law.

They often say Arizona’s Prop 203 has been improved to make all the regulations much tighter. Arizona’s law is different, but instead of regulating marijuana users, the changes actually protect marijuana users from regulation. Unlike laws in other states, Prop 203 has clauses that will make it nearly impossible to prosecute marijuana users for DUI, and make it nearly impossible for employers to fire or discipline a marijuana user who comes to work high. Prop 203 will undermine CPS by allowing parents to smoke marijuana even if ordered into drug treatment, and it could undermine the criminal justice system by allowing criminals to use marijuana even if they’re on probation, parole or in drug court. Landlords can’t refuse to rent to a marijuana cardholder, even if the cardholder smokes or grows marijuana in the rented house.

Someone from the Marijuana Policy Project recently said that medical marijuana could provide tax dollars to make up the state’s shortfall. However, the 9,528-word law includes language that specifically makes marijuana dispensaries tax exempt and, unlike other states, Arizona’s law has no provisions for charging fees for marijuana cards. In other words, it won’t provide one penny in tax dollars. Colorado has already had to budget several million dollars to administer their medical marijuana law, and Prop 203 will likewise drain our state coffers.

But the most outrageous deception is the name of their political campaign, “Stop Arresting Patients.” This conjures up pictures of grandmothers with cancer languishing in Florence, doing their knitting surrounded by smack-shooting streetwalkers and tattooed gang-bangers. In response to this charge, the Justice Department published a booklet called, “Who’s really in prison for marijuana?” In turns out almost everyone in jail or prison for marijuana either pleaded down from a more serious charge, had prior offenses, was violating probation, or was caught in possession with very large amounts they intended to sell. The median amount was 115 pounds, and their other charges were often violent. These are not small-time users. Patients are not getting arrested. This should be obvious. Can you imagine a jury sending that grandmother to prison? And, don’t you think that the Marijuana Policy Project would have one of those “patients” as their poster child?

Of course, there’s a reason the Marijuana Policy Project is so dishonest. They’re trying to fool the whole State into legalizing an addictive drug, giving drug abusers special protections that no one else gets, and paying for the whole thing out of our pocket.  They know the people of Arizona wouldn’t fall for it if they told the truth.

Attorney General Retreats on Enforcing Unconstitutional Campaign Finance Law

Goldwater Institute
News Release

PHOENIX—Without filing a lawsuit, the Goldwater Institute has scored another victory for First Amendment rights as businesses, non-profit corporations and unions are now free to support or oppose candidates in the Nov. 2 general election by making donations to independent expenditure committees.

On Sept. 24, 2010, the Attorney General’s Office said corporations and unions could not donate money to other organizations that planned to spend the money on advertisements promoting or criticizing candidates, even if they did so without coordinating their efforts with any candidate. The attorney general’s advice to Secretary of State Ken Bennett described this ban on contributions as a Class 2 misdemeanor. Taking seriously the threat of criminal charges, a number of respected organizations decided not to accept or give donations for independent expenditures.

In response, the Goldwater Institute’s Scharf-Norton Center for Constitutional Litigation sent a letter on Sept. 29, 2010, demanding that the Attorney General not enforce this ban on donations because it violates the First Amendment. On October 6, 2010, the Attorney General’s Office yielded, saying it would “exercise its prosecutorial discretion” and not punish corporations or unions for donating to an independent expenditure committee this year.

“This is what the U.S. Supreme Court intended when it said in Citizens United v. FEC that corporations and unions have a constitutional right to speak out during elections,” said Nick Dranias, the Goldwater Institute’s director of constitutional studies. “Under the First Amendment, everyone has the right to spend money to explain their political ideas to the public, even if they act in association with others through a corporation, and even if they choose to contribute money to other organizations that buy advertisements on their behalf.”

To learn more about the Goldwater Institute’s efforts to enforce the First Amendment and other individual rights, please visit www.goldwaterinstitute.org/litigation. Hollywood film asks the right questions about what’s wrong with public education

by Matthew Ladner, Ph.D.
Goldwater Institute

Hell has officially frozen over: someone from the Goldwater Institute is urging you to go see a film by the director of Al Gore’s global warming movie, An Inconvenient Truth. Davis Guggenheim’s new documentary, Waiting for Superman, makes a compelling case for sweeping reform of the American K-12 education system.

Waiting for Superman focuses on admission lotteries held every year by several popular charter schools in different parts of the country. The movie’s central figures are low-income students seeking to escape badly performing inner city schools in New York, Los Angeles and elsewhere. The makers of Waiting for Superman weave the students’ heartbreaking personal dramas into an overall presentation of the flaws of American public education.

When the documentary reaches its conclusion, the cameras are fixed on the faces of the students and their parents as they wait in quiet desperation at the lotteries. More and more numbers are called, and the odds against them grow longer and longer. It feels incredibly wrong to have the future hopes and dreams of children decided in such a fashion.

It feels wrong because it is wrong.

There is no Superman about to fly in and save them – only us. The kids need the adults to pull our heads out of the sand and get about the urgent business of improving America’s embarrassingly dysfunctional school system. Run, don’t walk, to see Waiting for Superman when it opens at theaters this week.

Dr. Matthew Ladner is vice president of research at the Goldwater Institute.

Dr. Gosar Leads Kirkpatrick 46-39

ICYMI: Gosar Leads Kirkpatrick 46-39

PRESCOTT, AZ – Today, The Hill released a poll in which Dr. Paul Gosar is leading Liberal incumbent, Ann Kirkpatrick 46% to 39%.  This poll demonstrates the continued momentum behind Dr. Gosar and it is particularly significant given that early ballots in Arizona are mailed tomorrow.

Here is The Hill’s analysis:

http://thehill.com/house-polls/polls-archive/122875-district-by-district-arizona

District by district – Arizona

By Shane D’Aprile - 10/06/10 05:55 AM ET

Arizona-1
Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D) vs. Paul Gosar (R)

Kirkpatrick trails her Republican opponent by seven points, receiving 39 percent of the vote to Gosar’s 46, according to The Hill/ANGA poll. Twelve percent of likely voters remain undecided.

Gosar is a favorite of the Tea Party and was backed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin during the Republican primary.

The Tea Party was found to have a profound effect in this GOP-leaning district, with 56 percent of voters rating it favorably. Both Republicans and independents stated they were more likely to support a Tea Party-backed candidate on Election Day (56 percent of Republicans and 31 percent of independents).

Gosar also leads Kirkpatrick 2-to-1 among likely male voters. And he leads 43 percent to Kirkpatrick’s 37 among independents.

That deficit likely extends from voters’ dismal views of Congress and President Obama. Independents and Republicans expressed deep dissatisfaction with both Democratic-controlled branches. Moreover, 37 percent more Republicans than Democrats say they are “very passionate” about voting in November.

Kirkpatrick’s best hope is to win over female voters ages 35-54, who are largely undecided.

The poll was conducted Sept. 25-30, consisted of 403 phone interviews among likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percent.

As you write your story, please consider the following quote from Gosar Campaign Manager, JP Twist:

“The people of Arizona’s First Congressional District have examined Ann Kirkpatrick’s liberal record and it doesn’t match up with the views of this rural region,” said Twist.  “She claims she is doing her part to pay down the national debt, then goes and requests nearly $100 million in earmarks that would be funded by the taxpayers.  She claims she doesn’t support Wall Street Executives, but she voted for the failed stimulus bill which includes a loophole to give bonuses to AIG executives.  She says one thing to voters, then flies to Washington and falls in line with Nancy Pelosi.  Arizona needs a leader who knows how to create jobs, not more big-spending government bureaucracy. “

Cost for taxpayer-funded Cubs’ stadium must be capped

by Carrie Ann Sitren
Goldwater Institute

Last week in the Arizona Republic, I urged Mesa to provide details of its plan to pay for a new spring training stadium for the Chicago Cubs. A day later, the city released a page and a half of bullet points outlining those “details.” Unfortunately, that list raises even more red flags.

The city has signed a non-binding agreement to build a new $84 million stadium for the Chicago baseball team. In Mesa, voter approval is needed before the city can spend more than $1.5 million, so Proposition 420, which would authorize this spending, is on the Nov. 2 election ballot. But neither Prop. 420, nor the city’s agreement, spell out what a new stadium will actually cost Mesa residents, or what Mesa taxpayers will get from the Cubs in exchange.

The bullet points issued last week outline Mesa’s costs at around $100 million. The list confirms expected construction costs for the stadium and training fields at $84 million, and estimates another $15 million will be needed for parking and other infrastructure. On top of that, the city will help to pay for future, unnamed improvements to the training complex. In exchange, the Cubs would provide “benefits to be determined” and pay rent in some unknown amount.

Mesa residents should demand to know more, including a firm limit to all of the costs and specific commitments from the team that will directly benefit the public. The New York Times reported on Sept. 7, 2010, “With more than four decades of evidence to back them up, economists almost uniformly agree that publicly financed stadiums rarely pay for themselves.” Arizona cities are no strangers to the prospect of money-losing sports stadiums. Glendale officials still haven’t figured out what to do with the $180 million taxpayer-funded arena built for the Phoenix Coyotes hockey team which, like the Cubs, has threatened to move out of state.

Mesa voters are in control of the game with Proposition 420 for Cubs baseball. They should refuse to play blindfolded.

Carrie Ann Sitren is an attorney with the Goldwater Institute Scharf-Norton Center for Constitutional Litigation.

Which judges are conservative, which are liberal, their prior judicial decisions

  Submitted by a reader

Since there is no real guide to Arizona’s judges anywhere, LighthouseBlog.com in conjunction with Republicans put together a review of judges at azjudgesreview.blogspot.com in 2008. It has been updated to include all of the judges on the ballot this year, including a basic quick guide, below. More detailed information on each judge is available on the website, divided into sections of Supreme Court Justices, Court of Appeals judges, and Maricopa County Superior Court judges. The Arizona Commission on Judicial Performance Review issues ratings of the judges, but they are all based on silly and meaningless criteria like whether the judge “acted with dignity, courtesy and patience.” They are based on reviews by other attorneys, judges and other participants in the court system – like left wing criminal defense attorneys. There is no information provided about a judge’s political philosophy or political bias in prior court decisions, so this site attempts to provide that information, which we consider the most important information you’d want to know in regards to a judge. The Commission has only recommended not retaining one or two judges ever! The site does not yet have information on Superior Court judges outside of Maricopa County, or Justices of the Peace. Arizona Political Interviews: Ian Gilyeat for US Senate

AZ Political Interviews debuts with an interview of Independent write-in candidate for U.S. Senate, Ian Gilyeat. If you’re fed up with McCain’s liberalism, Mr. Gilyeat is an alternative to voting for McCain. You won’t see his name on the ballot, so, you’ll have to write his name in. He certainly seems to hold more values in common with the Republican platform than does Mr. McCain.

Lessons for the U.S., from Russia

by Clint Bolick
Goldwater Institute

I’m confused. I know the United States and Russia present starkly different economic systems. Faced with crushing recessions and government debt, they’re pursuing dramatically diverging paths. But in the Alice-in-Wonderland world we’ve inhabited for the last few years, Russia is the country that’s downsizing its national bureaucracy while the U.S. is dramatically expanding ours.

Russia has announced it will slash its bureaucracy by 5 percent this year and 20 percent by 2013, with 174,000 government workers slated to lose their jobs. The administrative bloat is “ineffective,” declared Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, and threatens to “swallow society whole.”

While Russia is curbing the bureaucracy’s appetite, the U.S. is stoking it. The federal health care bill alone creates between 47 and 160 new agencies and offices. The actual number, says the Congressional Research Service, is “unknowable.” That does not count the 16,500 new Internal Revenue Service agents who will be hired under the law to enforce its tax-related provisions. Combine that with the many czars and their minions added to the federal payroll since last year, and you have some idea of the Obama administration’s real recipe for job creation.

No wonder Russia’s debt as a percentage of gross domestic product is shrinking while ours is growing alarmingly.

Who knew that some American politicians have been eyeing the Russian bureaucratic model, not with disdain but with envy? With Washington, D.C., completely out of control, it’s time for the states to take matters into our own hands. A constitutional amendment requiring approval of the states to raise the national debt might be a nifty place to start.

Clink Bolick is director of the Goldwater Institute’s Scharf-Norton Center for Constitutional Litigation.

I’m guessing the Left doesn’t like it when conservatives run a play from Saul Alinsky’s playbook!

Is Harry Mitchell really a “Blue Dog” Democrat?

The Club for Growth put together a handy website debunking some of the myths Harry Mitchell claims. I’d like to give it a little more attention here in Sonoran Alliance:

Myth: “He brings to Congress his commitment to…practicing fiscal responsibility.” ( source: Harry Mitchell’s official website)

Myth: “Mitchell has a record of fighting for fiscal discipline in Congress.” (source: Harry Mitchell official website)

Myth: “I am committed to getting our economy moving again while making Washington more fiscally responsible and holding our government accountable for its spending.” (source: Harry Mitchell State of the District Address, January 28, 2010)

Myth: “Over the last eight years the national debt has spread too large and federal spending has increased too fast.  A statutory pay-as-you-go rule would help restore a real sense of fiscal discipline as well as much needed accountability in spending so that the burden of insurmountable deficits, budget crises and tax increases doesn’t continue to be passed to our children and grandchildren.” (source: Harry Mitchell Press Release, June 9, 2009)

The Truth:

Harry Mitchell:

  • Votes with Nancy Pelosi on economic issues 65% of the time
  • Votes to keep PAYGO rules
  • Has a Club for Growth RePORK Card score of 25%
  • Voted YES on Obamacare
  • Voted NO to repeal Obamacare’s Individual Mandate
  • Voted YES on the Stimulus Package
  • Voted YES on the $850 BILLION TARP bill
  • Voted YES to bailout Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

On November 2nd, let’s send a message to Washington, D.C. that we are tired of the bailouts, takeovers and letdowns. Let’s retire Harry Mitchell and elect David Schweikert to Congress in Arizona’s 5th Congressional District

“No Pressure” How Radical Environmentalists See Non-Compliant Humans

This ought to scare the hell out of anyone! Here is how some radical environmentalists perceive those of us who refuse to go along with the global warming myth by complying with their agenda.

WARNING! THIS IS VERY GRAPHIC!

YouTube Preview Image

This was put out by the people behind the “10:10″ campaign. Here’s what The Blaze reports:

The latest anti-global warming campaign aimed at getting people around the world to reduce their carbon footprint has backfired. Big time.

The people behind the “10:10″ campaign, a movement encouraging people to reduce their carbon consumption by 10 percent in 2010, have been forced to pull their controversial new advertisement from the internet after widespread public outcry. The gruesome 4-minute ad depicts global warming skeptics being literally blown to pieces after their tree-hugging friends insist they’re under “no pressure” to modify their carbon consumption.

Warning (via Sad Hill): “Do NOT watch this video if you wish to avoid portrayals of extreme violence, genocide, child murders, demonic practice and terrorism — all in the name of environmentalism.”

Unfortunately for the “10:10″ folks, the public disgust surrounding the video outweighed its message and its producers pulled it from the web. Equally unfortunate for them, however, is the rampant re-posting of the video by bloggers around the world.

While the video’s message may have backfired, many point out that it gives a scary glimpse into the mind of today’s global warming alarmists. With its “No Pressure” campaign, writes the UK’s Telegraph, “the environmental movement has revealed the snarling, wicked, homicidal misanthropy beneath its cloak of gentle, bunny-hugging righteousness.”

The Arizona Republic Endorses John Huppenthal

The Arizona Republic

October 3, 2010

Editorial

To reform schools, choose Huppenthal

like many races, a lack of qualifications for the job is not an issue with either candidate for Arizona’s superintendent of public instruction.

Republican state Sen. John Huppenthal has focused on public-education issues for 18 years with an intensity few other lawmakers can match. The Democratic candidate for superintendent, Penny Kotterman, has spent more than 30 years in education as a teacher, president of the state teachers union and as the owner of her own education-consulting firm.

What matters in this race, it seems, is education philosophy. Both candidates view themselves, justifiably, as education reformers. Both understand the issues. And, as noted, both are right. But what is the right reform direction? We believe the sort of reform advocated by John Huppenthal is best for improving Arizona’s often dismal comparative standing on the crucial questions of how best to improve schools.

As a GOP lawmaker, Huppenthal was an integral part of Arizona’s school-choice revolution of the 1990s, when this state became a national leader in the expansion of charter schools. He has been a staunch advocate for local control over schools and performance pay for quality teachers. Huppenthal understands how public education works and is committed to finding ways to improve it.

The Arizona Republic recommends John Huppenthal for state superintendent of public instruction.

Review of the LD 15 CCEC Debate

OPENING STATEMENTS
During the opening statements, Rep. Sinema, an ultra-left-wing incumbent legislator who is termed out of the House and seeking a seat in the Senate, claimed that the Republicans are evil because they’ve cut spending and the state has lost jobs. Kyrsten has no clue what she’s talking about. First, the economy as a whole has shed jobs. It is only to be expected that Arizona, an epicenter of the government-caused distortions of the housing bubble, would be hit hard. It is not the state legislature’s fault except that it spent way too much in the Napolitano years and is now having to scale back. The housing bubble has been in the making by BOTH Republicans and Democrats at the federal level for decades. Second, Arizona has NOT cut spending. We’re still spending at 2009 levels. If anything, the legislature has kept spending in check when we SHOULD be cutting. So, what Sinema is really whining about is that we’re not spending MORE! Um, we’ve already been shown during the Obama Administration that Keynesian spending is a losing proposition. It always has been and it always will be. Whenever the government tries to meddle in an economy it does nothing but prolong recoveries, create distortions, cause downturns, etc.

The best route is to get government out of the way and that’s what Bob Thomas, the Republican candidate opposing Sinema for the Senate seat, proposed. Thomas is a military veteran and a small businessman. While Sinema whines about jobs, Thomas has created them and has never laid any employee off. He’s not a career politician like Sinema and Thomas doesn’t have the self-aggrandizing Congressional aspirations that Sinema has.

Katie Hobbs, one of the Democrat nominees for a house seat, seems to be a little clone of Kyrsten Sinema. She could have just said, “ditto” after Sinema gave her answers and she would have been as effective at the debate.

PARTISANSHIP
This portion of the debate gave me the biggest belly laugh. Sinema, of all people, talked about the lack of civility and decried extremists being nominated or holding office. Excuse me? Ms. Sinema started out the debate bashing Republicans. She’s the Asst. Minority Whip and she drops all else to jump in front of cameras and mics to attack Republicans. She has no compunction about lying about the facts while on the air. The prime example of this was claiming, on the radio, that S.B. 1070 would allow law enforcement officers to inquire about the status of those reporting crimes. That’s patently false and the Phoenix law Enforcement Association called Sinema out on the issue. Sinema is also a left-wing extremist, so, her cries about extremist being nominated are absolutely hypocritical. Just take a look at her scores from Goldwater and Americans for Prosperity. She scores at the bottom consistently. If she were some kind of moderate, her scores would be in the middle.

DREAM LEGISLATION
The CCEC then asked what dream legislation the candidates would like to pass. While Bob Thomas was concerned that more children are adopted, Sinema, on the other hand, wanted to rewrite the tax code to tailor the economy to her whims. The hypocrite said that the Republicans had created Swiss cheese out of the tax code, but then she admitted that she wanted to create Swiss cheese of her own by providing incentives to solar companies and other leftist causes. She wants the government to pick winners and losers in our economy. Sinema’s stupidity didn’t stop there. She said she wants to “close corporate tax loopholes,” and she wants to force those mean and evil corporations to pay “their fair share.” That’s Leftist code for wanting to raise taxes. In the middle of a recession, she wants to burden business expansion and job creation by sucking more money out of the private sector. The other stupidity to Sinema’s statement, and the stupidity in general of many Democrat pronouncements about increasing taxes on corporations and the rich, is that corporations simply pass on increased taxation to their consumers. That’s right, Sinema wants to impose new taxes on YOU. We can’t afford Sinema’s impact on our pocketbooks.

Mini-Sinema (a.k.a. Hobbs) wants to reinstate all-day kindergarten. Perhaps if kids were actually taught to read in Kindergarten, I remember reading before Kindergarten, I might actually think this is worthwhile, but Arizona kids aren’t required to read until 3rd grade. That’s appalling.

Paul Yoder had a good idea for dream legislation: tort reform. He’s absolutely right that we have a litigious society and that lawsuits make lawyers fat and rich while imposing increased costs on the rest of us. One area where this is very evident is health care. People love to sue doctors because they are considered deep-pockets. This is why malpractice insurance premiums are so high that doctors are forced out of business, the supply of doctors is artificially depressed while demand for services is high, and we have to pay more for medical services.

OBAMACARE
The candidates were then asked about Obamacare. Of course, Sinema supports it. She was one of Obama’s point men on his Health Care Task Force. Thanks to her, we’re already seeing our health care premiums go up. Thanks for taking health care LESS affordable, Kyrsten! We appreciate it! We WANTED to pay more for health care because it wasn’t expensive enough! Thanks to Sinema, we’re also seeing businesses simply drop their health care coverage. Yeah, just what we need, Ms. Sinema: less coverage and fewer benefits. The Dims all talked about forcing insurers to cover those with pre-existing conditions. Guess what that does to the rest of us? Drives up our premiums? BINGO! We’re already seeing insurers being driven out of our markets and we’ve heard that some companies may be dropping their health care coverage all together. Mini-Sinema, taking her cues from Big Sister Sinema, gave a one word answer that she supports Obamacare.

Bob Thomas has two doctors and three nurses in his family. He understands health care well. He understands that Obamacare will blow another $1.1 BILLION hole in the budget each year for the next ten years. Guess where the state government is going to go for that cash? That’s right, they’re going to try to tax you if Sinema and Obama have their way. Again, times are tough and YOU need your money, not the government. We can’t afford Sinema. Bob Thomas also understands the constitution well enough to know that Article 1, Section 8 simply doesn’t permit the federal government to require U.S. citizens to purchase anything. Sinema, on the other hand, thinks we have a national government of general powers and whatever the feds do is OK and the Supremacy Clause covers anything the feds want to do.

JOB GROWTH
The CCEC asked about stimulating job growth. The Leftists all talked about picking winners and losers, tailoring the economy to fit their whims. They’re entirely command economy types. The greatest illustration of this was Kyrsten Sinema’s crowing about tailoring the economy to fit her whims by providing incentives to solar companies to come to Arizona. Solar companies? This is Arizona. Solar companies should be FIGHTING to come here, not be BRIBED to come here. Want businesses to come here? Do the opposite of what Sinema suggests: make taxes on businesses universally low and cut regulation. Sinema also is crazy enough to think that meddling in the economy can somehow kill the cyclicality of economics. Yeah, Bill Clinton claimed he defeated the business cycle. How’s that working out for us right now? Sinema’s economic policies would either worsen our economic downturn, or prolong it.

IMMIGRATION
The debate turned to immigration. Sinema said she opposed SB 1070. She openly admitted that she supports amnesty. What she didn’t tell you is that against the will of 70% of Arizonans, she urged Gov. Brewer to veto S.B. 1070. What Sinema also failed to tell you is that she thinks if you report illegals to the authorities, you should go to jail. She favors illegals over U.S. citizens. It’s disgusting that someone like Sinema can even get elected in America. Mini-Sinema trotted out the loser line that we need to rely on the feds. Um…Ms. Hobbs, they haven’t done anything to secure the border and they have no desire to either…Oh! That’s right! That’s the Left’s aim: open borders and amnesty for all! Lela Allston, the other Democrat nominee for the House in LD 15, opposes deporting illegals with American born children. The Democrats look for ANY excuse to allow illegals to stay in this country.

Bob Thomas is endorsed by Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Russell Pearce. He believes that we should secure the border before we deal with other immigration issues. He opposes amnesty.

OTHER NOTES
Thomas, Condit and Yoder, the Republican nominees, have challenged the Democrats to a second debate on October 5th at Orangewood Church. The Democrats have given false excuses for not debating. Hobbs and Sinema claim they have class on the 5th while the ASU website proves that Sinema’s class is on Monday the 4th. Sinema is also a raging hyprcrite on the issue since she has criticized Brewer for refusing future debates with Goddard on Twitter. Hey, Sinema, if you’re going to criticize Brewer for not debating, shouldn’t you be showing up at Orangewood?

Gosar Wins Yavapai Tea Party Forum

Kirkpatrick Calls for More “Spending Projects

PRESCOTT, AZ – This evening, Dr. Paul Gosar won the Yavapai Tea Party Forum by demonstrating his commitment to a smaller, less regulated government.  Liberal Ann Kirkpatrick admitted that she was in favor of more spending projects.  In these challenging economic times, the last thing Arizonans need is more wasteful, government programs that treat the taxpayer’s money like a blank check.  As a small business owner, Dr. Gosar understands this and that is why his performance at tonight’s debate demonstrated that he is the only candidate that will rein in government spending once and for all.

FACT CHECK ON KIRKPATRICK’S REMARKS AT THE YAVAPAI TEA PARTY FORUM:

CLAIM: In her introductory remarks, Kirkpatrick claimed she is concerned about spending.

FACT: Kirkpatrick voted for H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which cost the American taxpayer $787 billion, increased mandatory spending by an estimated $267 billion over 10 years, and increased discretionary spending by $308.3 billion over 10 years.

CLAIM: Kirkpatrick touted her support for H.R. 1 and said that teachers and firemen were glad for her vote.  She then went on to say that she is “always looking for more spending projects.”

FACT: H.R. 1 has not helped small businesses, the backbone of Arizona’s economy.  As of June 30, 2010, www.recovery.gov reports that Arizona’s First Congressional District has received $709,260,804 in stimulus funding, yet only 3,610.6 jobs have been created.  That means, the cost to create or save each of these jobs was $196,438.48 per job.  Meanwhile, the median household income in the district is $41,997.

CLAIM: Kirkpatrick claims she read the entire health care bill and that she supports the bill because it will protect seniors impacted by the Medicare doughnut hole.

FACT: The health care overhaul legislation contains approximately $500 billion in cuts to Medicare.  Medicare Advantage alone would be cut by more than $100 billion.  7.4 million fewer seniors could be enrolled in Medicare Advantage because of the cuts and some seniors may lose the Medicare benefits they now enjoy.

CLAIM: Kirkpatrick claims the health care bill will save $140 million over time.

FACT: The bill does not include the prevention in a pending 21% reduction in Medicare payments to physicians, which would by itself wipe out the “savings” that the White House and Congress continue to take credit for.  Furthermore, the final health care package raises taxes, penalties and fees by $525 billion and taxpayers earning less than $200,000 a year will pay roughly $3.9 billion more in taxes in 2019 alone.

CLAIM: Kirkpatrick said she has always pushed to secure the border.

FACT: As a state legislator, Kirkpatrick voted against allowing the National Guard to defend the border if a state of emergency is declared by the Governor.  (HB 2766)

CLAIM: Kirkpatrick said she is opposed to amnesty.

FACT: As a state legislator, Kirkpatrick sponsored legislation to give tax credits to people seeking amnesty. (HB 2847)

CLAIM: Kirkpatrick said she is a strong supporter of second amendment rights and has an “A” rating with the NRA.

FACT: As a state legislator, Kirkpatrick received a “D” rating from the NRA.

CLAIM: Kirkpatrick said her number one priority is to bring jobs back to Arizona.

FACT: Since Kirkpatrick has been in Congress, Arizona’s unemployment rate has increased 20%, and more than 30,000 jobs have been lost.

CLAIM: Kirkpatrick said that border security is about national security and that she believes in securing the border to fix the problem with the drug cartels.

FACT: As a state legislator, Kirkpatrick voted against creating a border security fund that would have created a border radar system with cameras and voted against denying bail to illegal immigrants charged with felony offenses. (SB 1273 and HCR 2028)

CLAIM: Kirkpatrick stated that she will “listen to the voices of the American people.”

FACT: Yet in 2009 Kirkpatrick walked out on constituents during a health care town hall meeting.
