AZ Political Interviews with Libertarian Gubernatorial Candidate Barry Hess

Fiscal conservatives know full well that Jan Brewer is a tax and spend liberal. She increased spending with her line item vetoes and had to call three special sessions just to undo her damage. She was the poster girl for Prop. 100. Spending levels are still as they were in 2009. She lied about fixing the state’s structural budget deficit. Revenue projections for Prop. 100 shows that the 18% tax increase isn’t bringing in the revenue Coughlin told Brewer it would. We’re looking at a budget deficit of at least $700 million next year and over $1 billion in 2012…all because Brewer and the state legislature don’t have the spine to cut the budget and unnecessary spending. She has shown on YouTube and in the CCEC debate just how stupid she really is. If it weren’t for S.B. 1070, we’d likely have a different nominee. Some polls show that Goddard, of all people, is narrowing her lead. I’d wager this wouldn’t be the case if we had a better nominee.

If, like me, you refuse to vote for Brewer because she’s demonstrated that she loves big government, there are alternatives. One alternative is Libertarian candidate Barry Hess. I recently interviewed him on AZ Political Interviews. As with David Nolan or any Libertarian, there may be enough bright-line difference in ideology that may prevent a conservative from voting for a Libertarian. See for yourself. The link to my audio interview is below.

One thing I meant to bring up with Barry, and I wish I had, but we were running short on time (and these Libertarians LOVE to talk!), is that he may be partially responsible for Arizona suffering 6 years with Napolitano as governor. Barry garnered roughly 15K votes in 2002…about twice the margin that Matt Salmon lost by. If the Libertarians had voted with the Republicans in 2002, we wouldn’t be in the budget mess that we’re in now and JaNo would not be the head of the Department of Homeland Security. Perhaps Barry will comment in this thread.

AZ Political Interviews with David Nolan, the Libertarian Alternative to McCain

Some conservative Republicans are incredibly unhappy with the nomination of John McCain to be our U.S. Senator. We know full well that he lied through his teeth during the campaign, posturing as a conservative, when he’s demonstrably not. Not only do we know full well that the traitor (to Republican principles) will throw off his disguise as soon as he’s elected and take a hard left, but he, or his staff, continues to wage war on conservative activists within the party while simultaneously and disingenuously trying to sell unity. I’m not buying it. Coming from John McCain, I know it’s snake oil. For that reason, he’ll get no quarter or respite from me.

If, like me, there’s no way you’re going to vote for the Democrat in Disguise that’s our Republican nominee, there’s alternatives. One of the alternatives is David Nolan, the Libertarian candidate. However, there are some bright-line differences between Libertarians and Republicans…perhaps stark enough to prevent some conservatives, especially social conservatives, from voting for a Libertarian. See for yourself: I’ve linked to my AZ Political Interviews show with Mr. Nolan. Make up your own mind. It’s an audio interview. Enjoy.

Ward Connerly, Rep. David Lujan to debate affirmative action ban

Proposition 107 will be the subject of a debate this Thursday, Oct. 14, between nationally-known affirmative action opponent Ward Connerly and Arizona State House Minority Leader David Lujan (D-Phoenix), who supports race preference-based affirmative action.

Voter passage of Prop. 107 on November 2nd would amend the Arizona Constitution to ban race and gender based affirmative action in public hiring, contracting and public education.

A three-member media panel will grill Connerly and Lujan during 90-minute debate hosted by the Goldwater Institute and moderated by Clint Bolick, Director of Constitutional Litagation at Goldwater. The media panel consists of Arizona Republic editorial writer Kathleen Ingley, KFYI talk show host Jim Sharpe, and senior reporter Mike Sunnucks from the Phoenix Business Journal.

The debate is from 5:30 to 7:00PM at the Goldwater Institute auditorium located at 500 E. Coronado Road in Phoenix. The event is free and open to both the media and members of the public.

Employers need federal waivers to keep health insurance that works

by Christina Kohn
Goldwater Institute

A powerful union and a large corporation have something in common: they both want to be immunized against Obamacare. The United Federation of Teachers (a New York City teachers’ union) and McDonald’s have been temporarily exempted from a key provision of the federal health care reform law that would have required them to cancel their current employee health care plans.

They join a number of other unions and companies that are learning Congress didn’t keep President Obama’s promise from 2009 that everyone who is happy with their health insurance would be able to keep it. In late September, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services granted one-year waivers to 30 unions, businesses and insurance companies with a combined total of more than 1 million workers. These groups warned that mandates within the new law would result in higher premiums or a complete loss of coverage for their employees. No one knows if Health and Human Services will continue to exempt employers, which raises uncertainty about who will be forced to leave health insurance plans that have been working for them.

The real kicker is the teachers’ union fought for the health care bill and proudly claimed in April that it wouldn’t harm the union’s health insurance options. Now they are one of the first groups to ask for a waiver. Even Obamacare’s staunchest supporters have discovered the law is bad medicine for America.

The Goldwater Institute is working to free all Americans from the unconstitutional mandates in the federal health care bill. While individuals don’t have the luxury of obtaining waivers, Arizonans have the opportunity to pass Proposition 106 in the Nov. 2 general election and say no to some of the worst aspects of government-run health care.

Arizona’s very own Barney Frank…Felecia Rotellini

Way back before every American could tell you which house on their block was, or is, a foreclosure. Back when people believed banks were good and owning a home was the epitome’ of the American Dream…there were warnings.  Public warnings, on May 26, 2006 Senator McCain spoke out as part of an effort to prevent the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression.  Barney Frank, the holder of the keys to The House, ignored it.  There were other things to do.  Frank, a liberal Dem, used lots of trick to diminish the importance of those warnings while taking loads of cashola, in one way or another, for his efforts.

All this while in Arizona, Rotellini was doing her own Barney Frank act, ignoring a very well documented account of fraud from a very well respected source.  She was too busy building her political capital.

She, like Barney Frank,  was focused on feathering her own nest while thousands of Arizona citizens were losing theirs.

ROTELLINI’S NEGLIGENCE & INACTION LEADS TO PEOPLES’ LOSS IN LIFE SAVINGS

PHOENIX - The Tom Horne for Attorney General campaign has released a video detailing Felecia Rotellini’s negligence as a state banking regulator.  She was warned in a detailed letter in 2006 that Mortgages Limited was engaged in possibly illegal financial activity.  She did nothing, and two years later, in 2008, the warnings proved accurate and Mortgages Limited went bankrupt.  Thousands of Arizonans lost a total of more than a billion dollars because Rotellini sat on her hands when she had the chance to act.  By contrast, Horne has defended Arizona taxpayers, most notably in the Horne v. Flores case in which $300 million was saved because he took action on behalf of the citizens of Arizona.  Rotellini’s record suggests that she does just the opposite.

Union Supporting Rotellini Recruits Drug Dealers

The union supporting liberal Dem Felecia Rotellini for AG, the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW), is recruiting drug dealers in California, the marijuana sellers and growers legalized by that State’s medical marijuana law, into the union. The UFCW, which called for a boycott of Arizona when SB1070 was enacted, has contributed thousands and thousands of dollars to Rotellini’s campaign. When Tom Horne called upon Rotellini to refund the UFCW’s contribution, and reject that union’s support, Rotellini refused.

Today, Horne said:

Enough is enough. Rotellini should refund UFCW’s tainted money for two reasons: they are actively recruiting marijuana sellers and growers, and they have called for a boycott of Arizona. Rotellini should reject this effort to turn Arizona into a satellite state of California.’”

A news report from Work in Progress stated:

First, the United Food & Commercial Workers unionized some medical marijuana workers in May as part of an effort to bring “legitimacy to a once-hidden sector of the state’s economy” and boost the marijuana-legalization initiative.

Shortly afterward, the UFCW endorsed Proposition 19, stating:

The marriage of the cannabis-hemp industry and UFCW is a natural one,” said [UFCW local 5 president] Rush. “We are an agriculture, food-processing and retail union, as is this industry.”

The people of Arizona need to…just say NO TO ROTELLINI!

Dr. Paul Gosar releases new campaign ad

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 11, 2010
CONTACT: Stefani Zimmerman, Stefani@gosarforcongress.com

PRESCOTT, AZ – Today, the Gosar for Congress campaign launched a new television ad titled, “The Choice is Clear.” The ad highlights the failed policies Liberal Ann Kirkpatrick supports and contrasts that with Dr. Paul Gosar’s experience as a small business owner who wants to rein in wasteful, government spending.

YouTube Preview Image

“As Arizonans begin to learn the truth about Liberal Ann Kirkpatrick’s record, they are appalled by what they see,” said Twist. “Unemployment has increased by 20% and more than 30,000 jobs have been lost in Arizona’s First Congressional District since Kirkpatrick headed to Washington. Her tax-and-spend record has done nothing to create jobs and has only increased the debt and deficit. The choice is clear, this November voters want a leader, like Dr. Gosar, who understands small business and has a record of creating jobs, not destroying them.”

Kirkpatrick’s Record of Fiscal Irresponsibility:

  • Voted for the $787 Billion “Stimulus” Bill, which includes a loophole for AIG Executives to receive bonuses and gives tax credits to companies overseas.
  • Voted for the $3.4 Trillion FY 2010 Budget.
  • Voted for TARP 3.
  • Voted for the Health Care Reform bill which increases taxes by over $500 billion.
  • Requested nearly $100 million in tax-payer funded earmarks.

Sarah Palin Endorses Janet Contreras & Ruth McClung!

Today, Governor Sarah Palin endorsed two strong conservative women in the State of Arizona.

Janet Contreras, who is challenging Ed Pastor in congressional district four received Palin’s endorsement at the same time that Ruth McClung seeking to upset Congressman Raul Grijalva in CD-7.

For months, supporters associated with both campaigns have requested the Governor’s endorsement but as time passed, many were beginning to resolve that an endorsement might never come. But with early voting already underway, both candidates were excited and relieved to finally win the coveted nod by Governor Palin.

Here is what Governor Palin wrote on her Facebook page:

More Great Candidates to Support This Year

I’ve just finished up another great week of travel across our country. From Florida to California, the feeling is unmistakable.  A commonsense grassroots movement is determined to get our country back to its founding principles and constitutional roots.  I hope you’ll join me in supporting a few more patriots this November – because we need their voices and their votes in DC.

Ruth McClung & Janet Contreras for Congress in Arizona

Ruth McClung is the smart choice for Congress in southwestern Arizona.  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that our country is on the wrong track under the leadership of Obama, Pelosi, and Reid; but Ruth actually is a rocket scientist! Ruth’s commonsense fiscal approach to job creation and reining in reckless government spending is in sharp contrast to her opponent’s liberal record. In fact, Ruth is running against a four term incumbent who is so out of touch that he actually called for a boycott of his own constituents. It’s simple: The people of Arizona’s 7th Congressional District deserve better.  Please visit Ruth’s website at www.ruth4az.com and follow her on Facebook and Twitter.

Janet Contreras is not a politician; she’s a working mother, grandmother, and a former small business owner.  She’s like many of the patriots I meet all across this country – frustrated, disappointed, and doing something about it. Many of you will remember Janet from the letter she wrote expressing concern for the direction the country was moving in. Glenn Beck read the letter on his show and later interviewed her. Janet will be a smart, straight-forward, honest, and independent voice for Arizona’s 4th Congressional District.  Please visit Janet’s website at www.vote4janet.com and follow her on Facebook and Twitter.

Congratulations ladies on this important endorsement!

ICYMI: Fox News Fact Checks Kirkpatrick’s Rhetoric v. Her Record

PRESCOTT, AZ – Today, Fox News Channel examined Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick’s record and compared it to her campaign rhetoric.  Not surprisingly, the facts about her record don’t match up with what she has been saying.  For example, she tells Fox that she is “proud to be a Democrat” yet any mention of her party is suspiciously absent from her campaign materials.  Even more startling for the struggling families of Arizona’s First Congressional District are her claims that she is fiscally conservative, yet when asked about her support for numerous spending bills and bailouts, she says that they were tough votes and that she didn’t view them as bailouts.

Click here to watch Fox News Channel’s Fact Check on Ann Kirkpatrick’s Recent Flip-Flops:

Fox News Graphic

As you write your story, please consider a quote from Gosar Communications Director, Stefani Zimmerman:

“Liberal Ann Kirkpatrick will say anything to get re-elected,” said Zimmerman.  “Last time I checked, voting for a $3.4 trillion budget, the $787 billion stimulus bill, TARP 3, and requesting nearly $100 million in taxpayer funded earmarks was not emblematic of someone who is concerned with wasteful spending.  It’s just business as usual for Nancy Pelosi and her foot-soldier Ann Kirkpatrick to claim one thing but then turn around and do the opposite as soon as they arrive in Washington.  It’s clear that as momentum continues to build behind Dr. Gosar, voters are tired of the Democrat’s lies and desperate attempts to hide their true record.”

Latest Poll: Ruth McClung leading by 2 percent in AZ CD-7!

By Robert Stacy McCain
(Reprinted from the American Spectator)

Confirming indications of a building Republican “wave” this fall, polls now show Democrat Rep. Raul Grijalva in a dead-heat with his little-known challenger in Arizona’s 7th District. Politico reports that the Congressional Hispanic Caucus is now directing campaign cash to help Grijalva against insurgent GOP candidate Ruth McClung.

A big part of Grijalva’s problem is that earlier this year, the incumbent Democrat joined those calling for a boycott of Arizona after the state passed a tough law aimed at curbing illegal immigration. Grijalva may have expected that stance would endear him with voters in the 7th District — where about half of voters are Hispanic — but it appears to have backfired disastrously. Polls show the Arizona law is popular, while Grijalva’s support for a boycott was seen as harmful to the economy of a district suffering with high unemployment.

Fifty percent of 7th District voters say they’re ready to dump Grijalva, while McClung — an attractive young physicist who works for a rocket engineering firm — has begun capturing national attention.

Late Sunday night, I spoke to a Republican pollster in Arizona who had conducted a 7th District poll early last week and couldn’t believe the result: McClung actually leading by 2 percentage points. So he polled the district again and got similar results. Now those surprising findings have been confirmed by the Magellan Strategies poll that struck alarm among Democrats. Independents in the district are breaking strongly toward the Republican, a Tea Party favorite who is also supported by about a fifth of voters who identify as Democrats.

(Donate to Ruth McClung NOW!)

Polls indicating a surge for McClung have had an important effect: Arizona’s two Republican senators, John McCain and John Kyl, have reportedly started directing campaign donations and other resources toward the 7th District campaign. Within the next week, McClung’s candidacy is expected to gain $100,000 worth of Republican support, in addition to a steadily increasing stream of online small-donor contributions from grassroots conservatives eager to defeat Grijalva, who is co-chairman of the Progressive Caucus.

RINO Bob Littlefield Shows True Colors

RINO Bob Littlefield Shows True Colors – proves he is not the conservative he claims

What do transgender activist Michele de La Freniere and Scottsdale City Councilman Bob Littlefield, currently running for re-election, have in common? More than you might think.

In 2007, de La Freniere, as a member of the City’s Human Relations Commission, was concerned about supposedly rampant prejudice and violence against the gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual (GLTB) community in Scottsdale. None existed but de La Freniere was still concerned. The Commission forwarded recommendations to amend the Scottsdale Revised Code to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in City of Scottsdale employment activities;  and enact an ordinance to extend non-discrimination provisions to contractors, suppliers or lessees doing business with the City of Scottsdale, and to businesses and organizations within Scottsdale. The recommendations were on the agenda for the City Council meeting on 12/4/07.*

At the meeting, the Police Chief reported that in the prior two years, out of all violent crimes committed in the City, there had been only three (3) specifically related to the sexual orientation of the victims.  None involved transgenders. One councilman pointed out that affirmative action ordinances were already in place ensuring equal employment opportunities to all persons based solely on ability. Another councilman voiced his trepidation over additional legal and training issues. Another expressed concern that creating one more protected class, not recognized by any other official government entity, could create further problems, expense, and controversy. Not even Obama tried this.

And Councilman Littlefield? He not only supported the ordinance; he moved to adopt it.  “…Sending a message is important and passing the ordinance is the right thing to do.” Thanks to Bob Littlefield, the Scottsdale Revised Code was amended to provide the same protection to GLTB as for race, gender or religion in City employment. And Littlefield wanted to pass the other recommendations to impose these same “protected classes” on private businesses. He was one of only 2 councilmen who supported these intrusive mandates. The effect is increased cost to taxpayers and special rights for a new protected class. Does this sound like a conservative? On what else is he misleading us?

Littlefield doesn’t represent conservative values. Remember that when you mark your ballot for Scottsdale City Council.

Who is really planning an early voting event?

This event flyer is starting to pop up all over South Central Phoenix.

What may concern many people is the phrase: “BRING YOUR BALLOTS.”

A casual look at the flyer also shows that this event will be held at 113 West Grant in Phoenix next Saturday – all day long.

What should really bother anyone is that it does not indicate who is sponsoring this event. Based on the images on the flyer and the words, “Yesterday we marched, Today we vote!” it appears that it may be sponsored by individuals who opposed SB 1070 and stronger immigration laws.  Even more interesting is that they are telling people to bring their ballots to the event. Are they planning on telling people how to vote? Is there an assumption that people don’t know how to vote or who to vote for?

Go back to the address on the flyer. It is located at 113 West Grant in Phoenix. What’s located there? According to the Maricopa County Assessor’s website, that property is located two doors down from the Mexican Restaurant, El Portal. Sound familiar?  That restaurant is owned by none-other-than Maricopa County Supervisor, Mary Rose Wilcox a high profile Democrat in local politics. (The property owned right next to 113 West Grant is owned by Grant Park Enterprises, LLC which lists Mary Rose Wilcox as the Manager of the LLC).

Here’s the Google street level photo of the three properties:

Now although the address is owned by someone else other than Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox, one has to wonder how conveniently located the event is to someone who has been radically outspoken in opposition to SB 1070 and laws tightening border security and illegal immigration.

The event is scheduled for next Saturday. Will hundreds or thousands show up to fill out their ballots according to how “leadership” tells them? Who knows. However, the County Recorder and Secretary of State should be interested in what actually happens and how it may affect the November Elections.

Water Board Candidates to Consider

I got the following missive from Ron Ludders, the former head of the North Phoenix TEA Party (now marginalized by the RINO Wes Harris, a Republican Party Trojan horse), and the head of the AZ 2010 Project. Ron is right, many of us don’t pay attention to the down ballot races, but we should. We need TEA Party candidates not only in the big races, but in ALL races: school board, water board, etc. Ron sheds a lot of light on who we should consider voting for with our early ballots or at the polls on Nov. 2nd. I know I’m going to be bringing this list with me to the polls. Ron’s e-mail follows:

Most of you know how you wish to vote on high profile political offices, but far too few have much knowledge of the contest for Central Arizona Water Conservation District election.

The Central Arizona Project is managed and operated by the Central Arizona Water Conservation District (CAWCD). CAWCD is a municipal corporation, also known as a public improvement district. This governmental entity was formed to repay the federal government for the reimbursable costs of construction and to operate, maintain, and manage CAP.

CAWCD employs more than 400 people who are responsible for system maintenance and operations, repayment obligations, and creating water resource management programs for Arizona. The day to day operations are managed by the General Manager and senior management team.

The General Manager reports to the 15-member CAWCD Board of Directors. Members of the Board of Directors are popularly elected from CAP’s three-county service area including Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal counties and serve staggered six-year terms. The Board is responsible for establishing policy and usually meets twice a month.

The Board of Directors is responsible for establishing policies for governing the Board and the functions of the CAWCD. Policies governing the operation, pricing of water, use of facilities, etc., are adopted by the Board as needed. Policies are reviewed on a regular basis to determine their continued relevance and, if deemed to be no longer relevant, may be repealed by the Board.

We have the unique opportunity this year to elect conservative, Tea Party candidates to this little known but important Board.

Please cast your vote for the following five (5) candidates and let everyone you know to support these dedicated patriots:

Bundy, TC
Johnson, Raymond
Lewis, Mark
Moulton, Cynthia

AZ Judges Review: Disappointing criticism from The Center for Arizona Policy

Center for Arizona Policy attacks AZ Judges Review because it is anonymous

Due to restrictions on attorneys, the only way to get this kind of information out there publicly is anonymously

submitted by a reader from AZ Judges Review

The Center for Arizona policy, Arizona’s family values conservative think tank, recently sent out an email to its supporters critical of this website. President Cathi Herrod told supporters to beware, this website lacks credibility because it is anonymous. Why is this website anonymous? Because the Arizona State bar unconstitutionally prohibits lawyers and judges from daring to say anything that might possibly be construed as negative about a judge. And the State Bar has a monolithic hold on Arizona attorneys – you cannot practice law in Arizona without being a member of the State Bar (something we disagree with, we would like to see this stranglehold taken away and turn the Bar into a voluntary association).

The Bar’s Ethical Rule 8.2, Judicial and Legal Officials, states:

(a) A lawyer shall not make a statement that the lawyer knows to be false or with reckless disregard as to its truth or falsity concerning the qualifications or integrity of a judge, adjudicatory officer or public legal officer, or of a candidate for election or appointment to judicial or legal office.

This Ethical Rule has been used to target conservative attorneys in the past when they have had conflicts with liberal judges. It has been broadly interpreted in order to squelch unwanted criticism. This is an offensive encroachment on the free speech rights of attorneys, who don’t check their rights at the State Bar door once they become attorneys.

Consequently, the identities of anyone providing this kind of information must remain confidential, or risk a politically motivated investigation by the State Bar. The State Bar is controlled by left wing attorneys who don’t want a website like this to exist.

Some of our sources are very bright, accomplished attorneys and judges, but we don’t have the luxury of telling you who they are.

The Center for Arizona Policy points to their own questionnaire of judges instead, and suggests that it is a better guide. We disagree. Hardly any judges responded. Only three Superior Court judges did. One reputable judge we talked to laughed when he saw that any judges responded, due to the risk of putting your viewpoints on judicial philosophy out there – leaving yourself open for opponents to target you in future elections – and forget about a career involving a federal court position. Most of the judges who responded to their survey submitted vague responses, it’s impossible to tell from their letters whether they are liberal or conservative. Their survey of judges is practically meaningless.

If this website is so untrustworthy, why haven’t we had a single judge contact us and ask for a correction? We have yet to hear from any judge objecting to our characterizations of them, and this site has been around since 2008. That speaks volumes. We urge our readers to read the comments after these posts for more information on the judges that others have provided.

We are deeply disappointed in the Center for Arizona Policy. We are on the same side, but instead they have gone out of their way to tell others to avoid our website. The trusted attorneys and judges that have provided us with information are also disappointed.
