Schweikert leading Mitchell with 50% of the vote

Gosar leading Kirkpatrict by 5 points, Giffords and Kelly tied

American Action Network has conducted the first major poll after the primary election of Congressional races in Western states. It found that Democrats are in BIG trouble. A majority of likely voters in these districts prefer a Republican in districts where there is currently a Democrat incumbent, and they oppose Obamacare by a whopping 53 to 39%. All three incumbent Democrat members of Congress in Arizona’s CD1, CD5 and CD8 voted for Obamacare. A majority of likely voters surveyed also view Obama and Pelosi unfavorably. The three incumbents voted lockstep with Pelosi and the Obama administration on almost every vote.

In CD1, Republican challenger Paul Gosar leads incumbent Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick 47% to 41%, despite Kirkpatrick’s 97% name ID.

In CD8, Republican challenger Jesse Kelly and incumbent Democrat Gabrielle Giffords are tied at 46%. This is despite Giffords having 99% name ID.

In CD5, Republican challenger David Schweikert leads incumbent Democrat Harry Mitchell 50% to 44%, despite Mitchell’s 97% name ID. Voters surveyed were upset with Mitchell’s support of Obamacare. With Schweikert taking 50% of the vote, there are few undecideds left for Mitchell to win over.

AAN found that 68% of likely voters believe the country is on the wrong track. That’s nearly a 3-to-1 margin. Controlling government spending and making Washington, D.C. accountable were considered high priorities. Considering the three incumbent Democrats have voted against their constituents again and again, ignoring the Tea Party protests outside their offices against the bailouts and Obamacare and voting with Pelosi and Obama instead, it will be difficult for them to be reelected, especially Mitchell and Kirkpatrick who are too far behind at this point. In an anti-incumbent mood, the polls won’t be moving in their favor as it gets closer to the election.

I’m waiting for Harry Mitchell’s goons to start making comments claiming he didn’t vote for the bailouts. Because he didn’t vote for all of the bailouts, just some of them. Trying to hide his record. Voting for any of them was wrong and he needs to be booted out of office.

  2. Moise says:

With Schweikert polling at 50% of likely voters polled, there is virtually NO WAY an incumbent can recover from that. Early ballots go out in a month, and around 70% of voters vote by early ballot, and most mail heir ballots back in within the first couple of days. Unless Schweikert drops off the face of the earth in September, this race is over.

  3. Felicia says:

I REFUSE to vote for anyone who voted for Obamacare. I don’t know anyone else who will either. I think all three of them are toast. Obamacare and TARP bailouts are why we need to vote them all out – anyone who voted for them, Republican or Democrat.

  4. wanumba says:

Never vote for a Democrat ever. From its support for slavery, dragging the country into a Civil War, to today’s mass theft of our national resources, it doesn’t deserve to be even accepted as a legitimate political party that will work within Constitutional boundaries.

That keeps it simple. Unmasking the RINOs who vote as Democrats is a bit harder, because lying is a big part of it, but that’s getting exposed better at last, so a RINO is a lying Democrat. Back to the rule: Never vote for a Democrat, ever.

It’ll take a couple of cycles to clean the Democrats out, but small strokes fell great oaks.

Let’s change this name recognition thing and start talking up our guys. Write editorials, talk at local meetings…don’t just bloviate!

It is OUR honor that needs restoring.

  6. Lydia D. says:

    J.S.,

When he was first elected, one of Harry’s smarmy goons (one whom we met with directly was a new ASU graduate), denied that he had ever heard of the NAU (North American Union). We reminded him that ASU had taught a course in it the previous semester.

They’ll play “dodge the issue” again like they have always done.

  7. Dana says:

I hope they win. We need good representation in Congress because we are going to have an idiot as Governor. And yes I’m talking about Brewer

  8. johnny says:

While this poll is awesome news no time to rest guys…. This poll was only of 400 people and how exactly does one measure a likely voter this cycle?

So while it is great news I would not be surprised if it was a bit closer than this…

  9. Hal says:

One seat I actually see flipping to the Dems though is CD-3. I certainly know I’m planning on voting for Democrat Hulburd on that one. I’d rather knock the Democrat off in two years with someone like Dean Martin than stomach Quayle as my Congressman for the next decade.

I agree with “Don’t get cocky” warning, but I think we’ll capture the other three seats, especially considering the blowout at the top of the ticket with Brewer and McCain easily winning by over 20 points. That has to significantly effect down-ticket races. Mix in the anger at Obama on immigration and the current state of the economy, I think it’s very reasonable to assume we pick these three up.

  10. johnny says:

    Hal

So you would rather have a Dem who has more money than EVERY member of Congress except John Kerry? If he wins he will have so much money to defend the seat that it will make it hard to take back… So please dont say dumb things.

Also I dont know if Brewer is such a blowout anymore that first debate last night she messed up so bad I just saw it on the national news!! So that race isnt over and neither are any of the CD races of 1, 5, and 8. Polling at 50% as in cd-5 in a conservative leaning polling group that polled only 400 people… I dont see why people would pretend to say that race is over.

  11. TonyGOPrano says:

Harry Mitchell & his SEIU Union pals are in serious trouble. The voters of CD-5 don’t want ObamaCare (Mitchell Voted YES). In fact, Mitchell has voted with Obama almost 90% of the time. Today, Professor Larry Sabato on Fox News predicted that the Republicans would pick up at least 47 seats in the US House. 12. Rebecca says:

This poll isn’t reliable at all! It only surveyed 400 people. Most people in Arizona don’t even know who David is! If they do know who he is, they know him as a slime ball. Especially with the coverage of him lately. I think the people who conducted this poll and the people cheering for it are ridiculous for forgetting that Congressman Mitchell has deep ties within the community and are underestimating it. I’ve lived in Tempe for over 22 years now and am a registered independent and know for a fact that my community knows who Mitchell is and are happy he is our Congressman and not David. And also who are they polling anyway? Registered voters? I was certainly never called.

  13. Rebecca's Therapist says:

    Rebecca,
We’ve talked about this, just because it isn’t true for you in your little confined world, doesn’t mean it isn’t the truth. Tempe is a small part of CD5. Look past your nose.

Count me also as someone that’s voting for Hulburd over Quayle.

Your example of Hulburd’s wealth is completely stupid. We know where John Kerry’s money got him in the 2004 election. The only Republican that Hulburd could have beat in that district was Quayle, no matter how much money he threw at it. The next Republican that comes along will easily stomp Hulburd.

Quayle has too many ethical issues, in addition being far too immature to be United States Congressman (and that’s saying something).

I’m a conservative Republican, but I’m not some blind loyalist that just votes for every candidate with an (R) next to their name.

I’d rather have a 2 year fluke than some “lifer” like Quayle as my Congressman.

  15. Rebecca's BFF says:

    Rebecca,
I’ll call you. I think you are important. You are not invisible to me!

  16. johnny says:

    Brad C,

Are you really comparing a presidential campaign to a congressional one?? That has to be one of hte dumbest things ever. Personal wealth in presidential campaigns now means next to nothing. But as people like Harry Reid are showing having money in a statewide race can mean a lot. And in a CD it makes even more of a difference. He can write a check for 3 mil which is nothing and have more cash than ANY current member of congress has in their cash on hand accounts.

That is a huge difference. So go ahead elect him to congress, see where that gets you.

  17. Jeff says:

A conservative group’s poll favors Republican candidates across the board. In other news, the sky is still blue.

  18. jess says:

I’ve lived in Tempe since 1980. Both my kids had his class in high school. I can’t stand Harry Mitchell. I don’t know anyone who is voting for him. Rebecca might be speaking for her own little neighborhood but not all of Tempe is crazy about him.

  19. Brad C says:

    johnny

It’s not a dumb comparison at all, wealth isn’t everything.

Steve Moak had much more in personal wealth than Quayle, yet he still lost in CD-3.

I can go into endless examples of “loaded” candidates trying to buy elections that end up losing. Steve Forbes, Jon Corzine, and John McCain are just a few examples. Did you see what happened to Buz Mills?

Thanks for your permission, I plan to take my chances with Hulburd over Brock Landers.

  20. Mandolyn says:

Rebecca– Just a quick FYI it really doesn’t matter if the whole state of Arizona knows who David is.. Just CD5 voters… Only reason why the whole state and most of the country know who Harry is would be because of him standing and applauding President Calderon (sp?) for telling the nation to boycott our state. Who’s the slime ball now?

  21. johnny says:

    Brad C,

You are failing to get the point… Lets say Hulburd wins the seat. Now to take it back the GOP is going to be forced to spend millions of $$ helping someone try and take back the seat. They may or may not be successful but any substantial amount of fundraising or NRCC money spent in this CD in 2012 is money that would not need to be spent if you elect Quayle. You could even just primary Quayle in 2012 with someone like Martin. Then you get Martin in 2012 and you save the NRCC and the people of CD-3 millions. So voting for the Dem is not your only option here.

  22. johnny says:

    TonyGOPrano,

I find it interesting that you attack mitchell for being endorsed by labor when its schweikert who labor seems to love. Don’t you remember this little web ad from the GOP primary last time around…

  23. TonyGOPrano says:

Johnny are you kidding? You actually think Hulbert is going to win? This IS a Republican year, even bigger than 1994! Ben Quayle will raise enough $$$ to soundly defeat the Dem (remember CD-3 is a Rapublican District). NOT going to happen.

Why is David Schweikert going to defeat Harry Mitchell? Here is why: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bb-8g0_qjYI

  24. johnny says:

    Tony,

You seem to not read all the posts. Someone gop person I think hal said he is voting for hulburt because he thinks quayle is corrupt I was saying why that’s a bad idea… Please look at all the posts before you comment

Methinks Rebecca is a resident of LD17!

If not she sure sounds like one!

  26. TonyGOPrano says:

‘Johnny’ – Anonymous posts on a Blog? Try talking to candidates who ran vs Ben Quayle in the Primary. The ones I have spoken to already all tell me the same thing. Quayle is going to win & win big.

  27. AZJack says:

    VOTE Schwagert, Alright!!!!!!!
