David Schweikert Ignores 65 Percent of CD5 Voters

Dear CD 5 voter,

In a sweeping example of arrogance that has characterized his latest and third  Congressional campaign, David Schweikert told the Arizona Capitol Times that the Vote Jim Wardprimary election is “essentially over” in Congressional District 5, ignoring roughly 65% of the citizens in the district who have yet to cast their votes.

As you may remember, David Schweikert has lost in CD5 twice before and lost last cycle to Harry Mitchell by a twenty point swing.  He bases his claim on having  an “insurmountable lead” in the race. Obviously, he is using this as an excuse for his sudden reduction in his campaign expenditures.

I find it stunning and insulting that David would effectively tell so many of you who haven’t yet cast your ballot that your vote doesn’t matter.

This is a good indicator of how poorly Daivd Schweikert listens to constituents, and a good indicator that he realizes he’s headed for his third straight loss in this district.

Your votes matter to me and to the district as a whole and I would be honored to have your support. I promise to be attentive to your concerns and to work to restore America to the greatness it once had.  Please remember to cast your ballot whether you vote by mail or at your polling place on August 24.

Sincerely,

Jim Ward

Everyone knows David Schweikert is a union man. RINO alert!!! Real conservatives know that JIM WARD is the way to go in AZ-5.

  2. Conservative 2 the Bone says:

I find it “stunning and insulting” that you, Jim Ward, bust into my neighborhood last year (where I have lived my entire life) and ask me to vote for you because you have no political experience. Are YOU seriously calling David Schwiekert arrogant? Dude, he’s lived here nearly his whole life and knows this district. He’s responsible for some awesome legislation here in Arizona (not California). I think your post made me throw up in my mouth a little.

  3. tjohnny says:

He does have to be a bit full of himself to make statements like its over before the primary is over… Maybe schweikert is pulling back expenditures as ward says because he doesn’t want to waste all his cash.

Its one thing to ne confident, but he should have just pulled back his spending and not say anything else. That would have been the classy thing to do, this just makes schweikert look like a cocky douche.

  4. johnny says:

Not sure how the T got in my name sorry about that…

  5. Joseph says:

Jim Ward just moved here. His campaign books and his over budget reputation at Lucas prove he’s bad at math. This post is stupid.

    Click.

  6. Miss Tomato says:

    Joseph,

Can you send me proof re: Lucas? All I could find was a petition signed by 133 gamers.

    Thanks,

    MT

  7. Steve says:

You want to talk about arrogance? His campaign slogan that the “Wall Street Journal and Fox News have called me the anti-establishment insider” Is an outright lie… Does think that his supporters don’t read the articles that he posts? The word ‘anti-establishment’ isn’t even in the articles that he send me when I asked him directly. The article says few if anything about Jim Ward.

    http://www.votejimward.com/article/for-gop-no-experience-is-no-problem/

His accomplishments are so thin that he has to lie about his endorsements. If your going to lie about this what is he going to lie about when his actually in office.

  8. Bedroom Rockstar says:

Does Ward ever stop whining or slinging mud? I’d just like to know what he stands for, not what he claims someone else does.

Does he think I am going to vote for him only because he’s says stuff about Schweikert? Obviously, Schweikert is ahead and most likely going to win, but why does Ward feel the need to attack only Schweikert if the game is still on?

I like that Ward is proud of his Spinks endorsement. Google Mark Spinks and you will see a drunk driving conviction and two indecent exposure convictions. Guess Jim feels comfortable in that kind of company (being from San Fransisco and all).

  9. Mr. Mustard says:

    Miss Tomato,

Joseph’s details are the least of Mr. Ward’s problems—supporting amnesty programs and calling for a far left progressive fair trade model to replace free market capitalism gives Jim Ward the CD5 RINO award of 2009-2010.

He could have placed in 2008, but he was still in the Bay area.

  10. John q. Public says:

Anyone else notice that Mr. Ward forget to vote in every single Republican primary of his life to date.

This would be his first. And he’s voting for himself.

Way to be a team player Jim.

  11. Miss Tomato says:

Thanks for defending Joseph, Mr. Mustard. Can you also tell me how likely it is that Joseph, you, and John q. Public have the same IP address?

    :)

  12. Miss Tomato says:

    Bedroom Rockstar

Please get your info correct before you sling “mud” about Mr. Ward. Mark Spinks endorsed Dr. Chris Salvino in the CD-5 race.

Jim, on the other hand, has the endorsements of the following people:

    Arizona Congressman John Shadegg
    former Governor Fife Symington
    Arizona State Senator Tom Smith
    Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane
    Tempe City Councilmember Onnie Shekerjian
    Scottsdale City Councilman Bob Littlefield
    Mesa City Councilmember Dina Higgins
    Tea Party Leader Arch McGill

    Pretty impressive list, imho.

  13. John Millbury says:

First off I’m shocked that some people just don’t care that Jim truly only has roots-in-laws in Arizona; really none of his own.

Second, I’m further shocked that everyone really believes that he made a payroll when we all know it was George that generated the cash to cover all those checks. The link to the petition signed by his employees to oust him from his position at LA has been posted all over. Just do some basic research.

Lastly, David Schweikert is 100% correct in his assessment of the race. There are more ballots in then not and polling shows him ahead nearly 2:1. That’s 2:1 ahead of everyone else combined.

David never once said that he doesn’t need every vote. Quite the opposite. I’ve only ever heard him say that “we need every vote”.

Obviously Jim isn’t very good at math or he would know that it’s virtually impossible for him to take at least 75% of the remaining 40% (yes it’s approximatley less than 40% left not 65%) of the votes out there to win.

You are beat Jim. Everytime you “try” to attack David your numbers slide. Do the right thing and get your folks behind David Schweikert to win in November!!!!

  14. beth4life says:

Jim and “Miss Tomato”(really?), the attacks on David Schweikert are silly and of no real consequence. Stick with the issues, in which those “65%” ++ CONSERVATIVE, constituents are concerned about, Mr. Ward.
    Most Financially Conservative; Schweikert,
Most outspoken for our Very Important, like the sanctity of ALL human life, social issues; David Schweikert, NO DOUBT.
The Most Constitutionally Conservative; David Schweikert. To insinuate that David does not consider 65% or even 25% of his future constituents is far from genuine on YOUR part. Your integrity has been slipping for quite some time, now.

  15. Steve Calabrese says:

Respectfully, Miss Tomato, the only endorsement on that list that would mean anything to me is Fife Symington’s.

    Ward is floundering, desperately.

He has sunk a boatload of his money into a race, thinking he would be easy to buy an AZ Congressional seat. And, what does this supreme “businessman” have to show for his investment? (And have no doubt, he views it as an investment because he seems to think he can buy his way to the title “Honorable”)

He is polling a distant THIRD behind Susan Bitter Smith.

Political science is half art and half science. And, the science half has certain formulas that hold true 95% of the time. According to those formulas, Ward has no chance, statistically.

It is NOT a matter of David “not caring” about 65% of the voters. It is a matter of David understanding the true mission: TO UNSEAT HARRY MITCHELL, ONCE AND FOR ALL.

Ward is a rich kid having a temper tantrum. David is a very, very smart man who realizes that it just doesn’t make sense to beat up on marginal Republicans like Ward when those same funds will be desperately needed come the general.

The anger against Harry “Obamacare” Mitchell is overwhelming. NOW is the time – and yet, the DNC is desperate to hold onto this district. I have been worried about Republican infighting, McCain/Hayworth, Thomas/Horne, and the like. But I have never, ever seen such a perfect storm amongst the Republican party as what is happening with CD-5. People who traditionally just don’t get along are all teaming up, ready to support David against Mitchell.

Salvino and Ward are history. Irrelevant. They have destroyed themselves with their negative tactics. Bitter-Smith has partially redeemed her reputation, and will go on to make contribitions in one way or another to the Republican party.

But David Schweikert is the man who is going to unseat Harry Mitchell. We, Republicans, will never have a better chance to defeat the Democrats in this district – and David knows that is the ultimate goal.

  16. nightcrawler says:

There are two things at play here..

First is a strategy to declare the race over and entice those that have a need to be part of the winning side to create a self-fulfilling prophesy.

The second dynamic is the miscalculation of the Ward camp as to how the primary election distribution channels operate. They are not retail, but rather wholesale. The grassroot networks are filled with energetic folks who get the right people to cast the early ballots and to show up at the polls. They will be inforce on the 24th at nearly every polling place. Commercials on Fox don’t necessarily translate into people getting in their cars and taking the time to vote. People need to feel like their vote counts.

  17. Mr. Conservative says:

Well it’s pretty clear to me why Sean Noble is no longer working for Mr. Ward… He could see that this “anti-establishment outsider” campaign was headed for a loss, a pretty big one at that. Ward should stop acting like a fool & act like Bitter-Smith has this time around. What’s worse than losing? Not losing gracefully! Time to act like a grown-up & behave like a man…

  18. Steve Calabrese says:

Also, Miss Tomato, I do not know what you are implying saying that several people above are “using the same IP addresses.”

As the former owner of an ISP, and having a background in network engineering and security, I would like to point out a couple of things.

    1. Unless you have access to the server logs, you cannot know what IP addresses people are posting from. I am fairly certain that the software package that DSW users restricts that information. The web server logs and the application logs are the only two sources of IP addresses. Therefore, either:
    a. You have illegally hacked either the web server host itself or the application.
    b. Your initials are DSW, or someone delegated by him, or an employee of the web hosting provider.
    c. Most likely, you are just trying to undermine the massive degree of support for David by making false accusations that you can’t support, implying that some of the posts are fake. Who knows? Maybe some of them are. But you sure aren’t in a position to state that as a fact unless A or B applies.

    2. There are occasions where several different posters can all share the same IP address. The most common scenerio is when several politically-minded family members share the same internet connection. A lesser-known situation is that of many mobile home parks, condominiums, wireless wide-area providers and hotels where the facility provides Internet to hundreds if not thousands of individual users and have a banks of only 1,2 or 3 static IP addresses for public WAN purposes and then NAT all private LAN IP’s behind it. Seeing that the discussion in question concerns CD-5, which encompasses Tempe, which has SEVERAL apartment complexes with 500+ different apartments all sharing a single public IP address, this is actually quite likely.

Of course, if there is a bug or feature in sonoranalliance that allows you to view IP addresses without admin/root access, please feel free to enlighten me. I’d hate to continue to spread false information and would welcome the correction if I am wrong.

    -Steve Calabrese

P.S. Re: your list of Ward endorsements. Shadegg is another man who I once respected, much like Rick Romley, who has seem to have lost his way. So, I’ll give you 1.5 worth of positive endorsements out of the list you mentioned that impressed you so. That may impress you, but it doesn’t impress me. I will concede that Ward could most likely gather significant Democrat endorsements if he tried. They would LOVE to see Mitchell run against him.

  19. John Millbury says:

Again, David didn’t declare the race was over. He has simply stated that it would be really tough for any of the other candidates to make up the ground needed with the remaining votes that are out there. He will win regardless but that’s besides the point.

I do agree that the grassroots networks are filled with energetic folks and from what I understand the Schweikert camp has increased 2 fold within the past couple of weeks. You may not see or hear his name in broadcast, but trust me about how his team is running full steam ahead and then some. Hello November!!! Goodbye Mr. Mitchell!!!!

  20. Miss Tomato says:

    Steve,

You do realize that Schweikert has sunk nearly half a million of his own money into this race. So tell me, who’s really trying to buy a seat in Congress?

And sure, I believe you when you say that there’s a formula. But at the end of the day, every vote counts and there are still many ballots out there. Some may be signed and sealed and sitting on the kitchen table (like mine) or some may still be waiting for that stroke of genius. And until the phone calls stop and the door knocks stop, and the evening of August 24th is upon us, it’s still anyone’s race.

I was at a meeting where Schweikert essentially told any non-supporters that it was over. I thought it was incredibly rude, and not just because I am a Ward supporter. If it’s over, should I bother sending in my ballot? The message that I got from him was a solid No.

If David wants to win this race, he should be getting every vote out there instead sending a message to voters that their un-cast ballots are irrelevant. And that is essentially what Jim is doing. And as a voter who hasn’t turned her ballot in yet, I applaud Jim.

  21. Miss Tomato says:

I’m not as tech savvy as you are, Steve, but there is something in the blogging software that Sonoran Alliance uses that shows IP addresses of the comments that are posted on my posts. Please take it up with Shane if you have a problem with me knowing this info. I didn’t modify anything. It came like this.

Furthermore, I’m not trying to undermine David’s support. I’m just pointing out that it is odd for someone to post numerous times on one blog post under different names. I believe the technical term for those types of people are called “trolls”.

I honestly don’t mind the banter that we’re having. I do mind however, if I have to refer to multiple posters.. when they are all one in the same. Makes for numerous comments on my end when I could have addressed all issues in one comment.

  22. Miss Tomato says:

    John,

I think that voters care that Jim Ward and his wife have decided to make Arizona their home and plan to raise their children here. It’s a great state and why not move here? It doesn’t disqualify you from doing anything. Jim wants to help Arizona. What’s wrong with that? I feel that there’s a sense of entitlement – “I lived here longer so I deserve to be Congressman?” No way! Maybe that’s why we got Harry Mitchell for the last four years. He’s been here for a while!

Now I’m not a LucasArts employee and I’m not exactly sure what Jim did at there. But a quick glance at the Wikipedia entry (I know, not a really reliable source, but what else can I use?) shows that Jim made it a more efficient company. The only petition I found was from gamers. And while I enjoy my XBox as much as the next person, gamers aren’t employees. Here are some quotes from the petitions to illustrate my point:

“126. Nutsy Tin Although i dont want to have anyone fired really… he ruined my favourite game”

“113. Myspace Suicide Kid you BROKE my STAR WARS GALAXIES!”

    Yeah..

    Just yeah…

  23. Groundskeeper Willie says:

Speaking of high-speed endorsements, Miss Tomato, I’m sure you didn’t mean to leave out Jim Ward’s last minute attempts to raise cash, where he’s taking big money from huge Bill Clinton/Howard Dean/Nancy Pelosi donors. Check Ward’s fun liberal friends at http://www.fec.gov

  24. Steve Calabrese says:

    Miss Tomato:

    You write:
Schweikert has sunk nearly half a million of his own money into this race. So tell me, who’s really trying to buy a seat in Congress?

I reply: Yeah, he has sunk his own cash in too. But he’s lived here all his life. Ward called up Randy Pullen and asked, specifically, what district he should move to if he wanted to run for Congress. To me, that indicates he moved here solely to gain a seat in Congress. He would have moved to Tucson if he thought he could have won down there. I don’t require that a person be a native to vote for them. I DO think that it’s not too much to ask for a person to have SOME degree of political experience and background that we can use to make judgments on before we elect them to the most exclusive club in the world. And his tenure at Lucas Arts is something the company is still recovering from; he slashed many long term projects to improve quarterly financials that then had to be started up again after he left – because the company’s own customers were outraged.

David has a record. I know, roughly, what he will do in Congress. Ward’s qualifications, basically, boil down to “he has a boatload of money and gives a good speech.” Now, before David was ready to go, I can see how some local pols might see the allure of a truckload of cash to spread around the district to defeat Mitchell – but other than that, what has Ward ever had to offer?

We Arizonans have long had people coming here to take advantage of this state. Doug Wead was a nortorious example. We’re a little sensitive about it. Had Ward moved here a few years ago, and been even a bit politically active, he would be getting a much warmer reception.

As for the IP address thing, I would really, really like to know how the blogging software you’re referring to shows IP addresses on replies to your posts. Seriously. If it’s possible, I want to know, because I don’t like being ignorant. Unlike, say, slashcode, which allows replies to specific individuals, as far as I know SA doesn’t have that ability turned on.

  25. Gilligan says:

“David Schweikert ignores 65% of CD5 voters”, are you kidding me? He has probably knocked on all of their doors and spoken with them personally from what I can see. He leaves them with his home phone number. I don’t care if a candidate has run before, lost before, held office before. I care how they are going to vote as my Congressman. I know how Schweikert is going to vote. I’m not sure how Ward would vote. This voter in the 65% of CD5 is voting for Schweiekert!

  26. Hey Steve…as to the IP address thing; everyone who submits posts to SA does so on a WordPress site. A part of that is that every comment is emailed to the writer, including the content of the comment, the email address, IP address and what I think might be the server site.

I’m not a big techy either, but think it is only fair that people know what is known about them…anonymous posts an all. Shane has made it very clear that we get the IP addresses of commenters but will never reveal that info!

For example if you work for ABC Tools & Dye and post using a work computer, or your wireless laptop, that is on a the companies main server but use your google.com email; I will see the email address and the IP address with the server info. If it is 123.45.678abctool&dye, now I know you work there. Most companies don’t have that but big ones do. Some folks do use their work email address. A few end in .gov. Really. maricopa.gov.

I have had as many as 5 comments, right in a row, all using different anonymous names but from the same personalized email address (such as joesmith@yahoo.com)and IP address. Maybe Thorazine is indicated. ???

I can go to my posts and click on the IP address of any post and see every post from that IP with all the names used by that IP.

The only way to reply directly to the person would be by the email address provided when you comment.

I hope that clears things up.

As for Ward…this coming from someone who is sick and tired of hearing, “Well, back home we did it this way…” If a person has the right views and is committed to doing the right thing…then do I really care if he has lived here 25 years or 25 months?

Jim Ward went to an esteemed grad school here, married a local gal here, has stayed close to his in-laws and family here. He lived elsewhere because he got a job out of state, a very good job, and when he could he made this his home. I just don’t hear people outside the Schweikert campaign caring much about this, either. I want Harry Mitchell to lose. I want someone who can win the general to win the primary. Schweikert and Bitter-Smith can’t win the general. Ward can…

  27. Groundskeeper Willie says:

If people are paying attention to the math, WARD HAS ALREADY LOST THE GENERAL!

  28. Groundskeeper Willie says:

an outside guy can’t beat hometown Harry… the DCCC will eat him apart for being a carpetbagger.

  29. Ginger says:

Bottom line is, Jim is falling way behind in the polls and losing without grace. Have some dignity. If you can’t do that, tell your humps to go back out there again and plaster some more of your signs over other candidates.
And as for Steve, you can really suck the oxygen out of the room. When people look at you with those glazed eyes, just stop talking.

  30. china delay says:

    miss tomato? you’re canned.

david is a good conservative and has the best chance to beat harry mitchell. all will be forgiven if jim ward and susan bitter smith pitch in and help david and the republicans take back congress. it’s our time.

  31. Annie Hoyle says:

All of the mailers I’ve gotten from David are about David. All of the mailers I’ve gotten from Jim Ward are about David. This post written by Jim Ward is about…. David!! I can’t wait for next tuesday! Go David, Go!!!!

  32. Kelly says:

    Annie, I agree. GOOOOOO David!

  33. Connie Concerned says:

Inexperience and arrogance are all on Jim Wards’ side in this campaign. What difference does it make that he is a carpetbagger? Does to me.

David support economic growth and jobs for Arizona and America. David wants our government to be responsible and spend less of our tax dollars on ear marks and special “projects” David is tough minded and conservative.

All Jim Ward does is whine. ” Everybody is picking on me. I should be the winner. I did a hit piece and everybody picked on it, so I changed it.” So, if the Democrats pick on Jim will he change his vote? If the going gets tough will Jim complain and cry it is not fair? Not what we need in Washington to defeat Madam Pelosi and friends.

Jimmy, Take your toys and go home to San Francisco you ain’t tough enough for this sandbox.

  34. Gabby Hayes says:

When I decide who to vote for I look at what their motivation is.

Jim Ward wants to win to save America for “His Kids” (helps his kids)

Harry Mitchell said he voted for Obamacare for his son and grandson. (helps his kids)

Hmmmm those two sound a lot alike.

David is running because he wants more freedom for evryone.

    David wins………….Go David!!

  35. Steve Calabrese says:

    Molly:

Thank you for the clarification – I did not realize that Miss Tomato had actually submitted the original article. Therefore, she fits definition B of my post above; as a contributor (article-submitter) to the site, she has been delegated to receive specialized communication by DSW, by virtue of the fact that he gave her authority to post and thus she gets the IP addresses.

I am, however, correct in my statement that ordinary commenters do NOT have the ability to read IP addresses of posters. My error was in not recognizing that Miss Tomato was, in essence, part of the staff of SA and therefore was able to see IP addresses. Therefore, Miss Tomato, I apologize to you for implying that you were wrong when you said you could see the IP addresses. You were right, you can – but only because you submitted the article in question. No one else with the exception of admins appointed by DSW or the web host staff can see IP addresses.

    Sorry.

  36. Blondie says:

Jim Ward’s wife is STRONGLY connected to the Skadegg family so it disgusts me when Ward’s ads say that he is a “Non-Establishment Outsider”. The Shadegg family brought the Wards to Az from California months ago and decided which race to enter and then bought a house in that neighborhood. Because Jim Ward has no political record or AZ record (so no one know how he will TRULY vote), he resorts to slander (this silly issue above), lies (the vulture ad) etc against his top competitor.Shmae on Ward for such a dirty campaign! May he return back to the snake pit of California where he belongs!

  37. johnny says:

The problem I have had with David appears to have come true… the NRCC bought ad time in 40 congressional districts. CD-5 is NOT on the list. They did not buy ads for Schweikert last time to help him out and it looks like they do not have confidence in him again.

39 of these seats are Dem held seats that means the NRCC doesnt even think this is top tier race. This is bad news for Schweikert who I think everyone agrees is the front runner here

Here is the link to the article. Page 2 has the list of districts:
    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0810/41143_Page2.html

  38. AZJack says:

I’m voting for the local guy. He knows what we need in CD5. Schweoikert has done so many good things for us. David has my vote.

  39. Bob says:

    I’m voting for Jim Ward.

David Schweikert has done nothing but continually run for higher office. Even when he wins a seat, the next election, he quits to run for something higher.

One candidate moved from one state to another (As free Americans will do).

One candidate is obsessesed (note the amount of his own money he throws away into campaigniing) with moving from one office to another.

I’ll take the one who moved into this state to be near family – Jim Ward- rather than the one who moved from office to office only for power – David Schweikert.

Speaking with friends and neghbors, they are all voting for Jim Ward. They just don’t tell the Schweikert folks because they are so aggressive and they don’t want to engage them.

  40. Gabby Hayes says:

    Johnny,

Thanks for the link the article was interesting….

One senior Republican official stressed that the ad reservations were only tentative and could change in the weeks to come.

So it is not final and things could change and perhaps they think David is good to go on his own.

  41. Carlist says:

It’s rather disingenuous to pose as an “anti-establishment insider” when upon touching ground in Arizona, Jim W visits the Jameses of impeccable McCain/Giuliani RINO genes to set up political shop.

Shortly, thereafter he receives the endorsement of John “Open Borders” Shadegg and of course, Glenn Hamer’s anti-establishment Chamber of Commerce!

If this shill is successful on August 24th, Harry Mitchell’s principles will be retained in District 5 whether or not he retains his seat!

The last thing the conservative movement or the Republican Party needs is a Neo-McCain!

Flush this Ward jerk along with “The John”!

  42. johnny says:

    Gabby Hayes,

If they think Schweikert is ok on his own they are nuts… $225,529.45 cash on hand, raised slightly less than $36K during the last 6 weeks, spent over $244K during that same time. Owes a debt of $500K (to himself).

    http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/dcdev/forms/C00440727/487086/

While Mitchell has over 1 mil cash on hand… And is getting DCCC ad buys… So lets be honest he is going to need help

  43. Frank says:

johnny, thanks for that politico article. very interesting. But, if you break down the list, those states don’t have outstanding primaries. so CD5 wouldn’t be included anyway.

  44. Gabby Hayes says:

    Johnny,

Ok so we need to pull together as a district and help him win. I have donated to David, lets all do so.

We need to defeat Mitchell…..Remember, our principles and votes are not for sale to the highest spender.

  45. johnny says:

    Frank,

That might be true but this has to worry Schweikert, he didnt get help in 08…. And once again he is in a late primary where he is the front runner, low on cash and getting beaten up by other Rs.

Also this primary is a week away… so if this was really a major race they were looking at wouldnt they hold off a week? None of the ad buys are happening now, so why release it unless these are your major ones…

  46. otasan says:

I moved to AZ a few years ago, and most of my neighbors are not natives either.

This “carpetbagger” thing is a distraction.

David is campaigning exactly like he did 2 years ago. He thinks politics is a “blood sport” (I heard him say that with my own ears- he was talking to a reporter.) Everyone else be damned- he wants a seat in Congress (he has since the 90′s) and will stop at nothing to get it.

He’s just as arrogant today as he was 2 years ago when he was thoroughly beaten by Harry Mitchell.

David hasn’t changed. There’s no reason to think the result this time around would be any different.

  47. Barb says:

    Gabby,
You are so right!! We do need to pull together and help David, I too have donated to David and will donate more! He is the only Republican candidate that can beat Harry Mitchell!! I truly despise the negative campaigning that Ward is doing, you have to wonder whose side he is on!! Republicans now is the time to pull togther behind David!! We want our freedom back!! We want a principled leader!! David Schweikert is the only choice!!

Several months ago the College Republicans put on a CD-5 candidate forum. Mike Broomhead was there and asked the questions.

He asked each candidate if they won, how they would reach out to their primary opponents to build a coalition to win the general. (I’m paraphrasing.)

Each candidate’s answer gave real insight into their leadership philosophy.

David’s answer was (again, paraphrasing) “The primary is too close to the general to build any type of coalition. The other candidates just need to back the winner.”

If David squeaks out another win in the primary, he will be beat in the general, in part because he has no leadership skills.

The other candidates WILL NOT fully back David in the General. He’s given them no reason to. He’s run a nasty campaign, as usual. It’s what you’d expect from a guy who feels that it’s his charge to “take out his opponents at the knees”. (That’s another thing he told the reporter when I was standing there.)

I believe that if any of the other candidates win the primary, they will be able to put together a coalition of their former rivals (David excepted, he’s too petty) and win the General.

If David wins, it will be him alone. And we know how that works. (David loses by 10 points.)

I fully support Jim Ward, but I would be just as happy if anyone but Schweikert won.

If David wins, I will not do everything in my power to help him get elected. I’ll put my energy into other races and other things. And I have a strong feeling I’m not alone there.

Barb, Gabby – David is the only candidate who has lost to Harry Mitchell.

Trust me guys I dont support Ward either I am just saying David is in trouble. Things look to much like 2008 right now in CD-5.

But with Ward it would be so easy for Mitchell to run the ad, of he went to ASU, taught in tempe, lived here his whole life and then ward doesnt know cd-5 just moved here, how can we trust him.

That ad draws such a contrast and would be so damaging Ward would have no shot against Mitchell
