Jim Ward campaign in meltdown; frantically posting signs in front of others

You know a political campaign is desperate when they start putting up a flurry of last-minute signs in front of other candidates’ signs. Jim Ward’s campaign must have done some internal polling and discovered that he is way behind in the primary. It is illegal to tamper with other candidates’ signs, and the way some of the Ward signs have been put up raises suspicions. The photos below reveal that Ward has tied his signs onto other candidates’ signs – did the candidates approve or was the activity illegal? It wouldn’t be the first time Ward has illegally posted his signs; in the past he has posted oversized signs blocking the view at intersections. It is amusing watching the Jim Ward meltdown. He started out his campaign as a San Francisco elitist with ties to McCain, and now is resorting to elementary school tactics.

  1. Larry says:

I can’t stand that guy. He’s a McCain clone who supports amnesty. He carpetbagged here from San Francisco and thought he could buy a Congressional seat. This video exposes his support for amnesty: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnQ8cQ9xwkk

  2. Amy S says:

When Jim Ward was president of a big San Francisco company, his own customers took out a petition to fire him. http://www.petitiononline.com/fireward/petition.html
He thinks THAT makes him qualified to carpetbag over to Arizona to run for Congress?

  3. Conservative PC says:

Moving to Arizona and disrespecting our laws, then having the ARROGANCE to think you can represent the district you disrespect. He needs to move back to San Francisco and take his amnesty plan back with him where it will be more warmly received by Nancy Pelosi and San Francisco liberals.

  4. Jerry Rivers says:

Jim Ward is a moderate RINO Republican just like John McCain. He’s been campaigning with McCain, coordinating putting up signs together, their staff shows up at events together, etc. McCain is what is wrong with our party in Arizona. We do not need another McCain in office.

  5. Principled Conservative says:

Jim Ward was endorsed by John Shadegg, who voted for the TARP bailouts. We don’t need another big-spender in Congress. Vote for David Schweikert, the conservative with a proven history.

  6. andre says:

I noticed on the FECs that Jim Ward gave himself $100k last night. Except that it is from a position of total weakness.

I he had any chance, he’d give himself $700k and run a strong message… none of this weak stuff he’s been producing that doesn’t inspire voters. My calculations (and yes I can do math) show that he can’t spend any of the money he has left because it is locked for the general election which he’ll never make – - so he’s spending so much money on mail and consultants which you can see in his receipts, and has to put $100k in last night to cover his bills due this week.

Interestingly, I compared his spending habits to his competitors in CD5 and they are spending 1/2 on mail, town halls, and other fees.

Sad but true. Jim Ward was never ready to be a fiscal conservative, mostly because he spends like a liberal, losing control of costs and having frantic messaging that is all over the place.

**also, it turns out that LucasArts fired him for failing to meet deadlines and blowing budget. Sounds a little bit like his track record in this campaign totally fumbling the early ballots, going up on tv and in the mail too late, and paying every consultant and their brother way too much!

  7. Not Crazy Pam says:

Although this post and Ward’s tactics are petty, I do agree thank goodness Ward has no chance. He is the most arrogant candidate this election.

He is even worse than Ben Quayle!

  8. otasan says:

Seriously David, don’t you have better things to do than to post more anti-Jim Ward comments on Sonoran Alliance under your various aliases?

If Jim Sucks so much, and he’s no threat, then why do you guys keep obsessing over him?

By the way, word on the street is that one time David Schweikert was fired from his job at McDonald’s for eating french fries out of the bin so that means he’s not fit for congress!!!!!

  9. Peggy M. says:

    All the Progressives are desperate.

  10. LD17 says:

    David,

You want to split hairs over signs? The ones you have in Scottsdale are WAY over the size requirements.

Are you going to take them down? No. You’re as much as a violator as Ward is.

    Man up and shut up.

  11. Gabby says:

    Otasan,

Jim Ward is so easy to pick on that is why we do it. He has no clue how to run a campaign and I am not surprised to hear he was fired from Lucasarts for fouling up on deadlines and budgets. He is here tied on to McCain and Shadegg, why wouldn’t he tie on his signs to others. Pretty much says Jim and his signs, can’t stand on his own. You really think that the Mitchell gang won’t see through him and use it all against him? You want more Mitchell support Jim.

You want to take back the country vote Schweikert.

  12. BWGF says:

I really wonder how Brenda feels about this? I think that was really disrespectful of him to do to her signs. But then again, he really has little to no respect for anyone in this community or race.

  13. Otasan's Wife says:

Otasan, get off the computer and find a job already! Maybe you can ask Jim after the election if you can take his signs down, you know, the ones on top of everyone elses?

  14. anonymous says:

Frankly, I did not sweat for hours on end to have someone else attach their signs to Schweikert’s. Seems small and cheap to me.

  15. Connie Concerned says:

If I was Brenda I would be very upset at this low class maneuver. That seems to be the theme for the Ward campaign low class, low down. If asked, I am sure Jim will, like many others of his stripe, blame Bush.

  16. anonymous says:

I saw a man putting up signs for Ward on my way to do errands. On my way home, I saw a Schweikert sign with a Ward sign IN FRONT OF IT. I pulled over, put on the flashers and took it down. That’s just not right.

  17. anonymous says:

If Mr. Ward is from San Francisco, he might not have Arizona’s best interest at heart. I don’t know this for a fact, but I would venture it’s worth investigating.

  18. Roger says:

Alright you caught me, I am David Schweikert and instead of knocking on doors and raising money, I lurk on the comments on this blog. Because that is so much more important, quibbling with comments.

  19. I wish I could make this into an ad... says:

    lights, camera, action.

    roll out the red carpet.

up pulls the royal red jaguar.

    flash, flash, flash.

OMG, it’s Jim Ward! He made it all the way from San Francisco!!

cue the music: “If you’re going, to San Francisco…”

A reporter asks: “Mr. Ward, Mr. Ward, is it true that your campaign is now bankrupt and you’ve spent everything?”

Another reporter asks: “Jim, tell us, can you please comment on Congressman Shadegg’s TARP vote? You say you want to be just like Shadegg. Would you be a Republican that votes to bail out Wall Street too?”

Jim kisses a baby, shakes a few hands, and strolls up with a goofy grin… “Listen folks, I’ve met a payroll… I’ve been endorsed by Congressman John Shadegg, and I can beat Harry Mitchell, because my name is neither Susan or David…”

A reporter follows up: “Jim, technically, didn’t George Lucas make the payroll? Didn’t you just work for the company?”

Another reporter follows up: “Jim, don’t the polls show that you actually can’t beat Harry Mitchell because you just moved here from San Francisco to run for Congress?”

Jim clears his throat. “Now come on folks, I’ve been endorsed by Congressman John Shadegg. I married into a family that has deep routs in your community. And I’ve hired at least 1 person you know to work on my campaign. I’ve spent a lot of money to get to know you. Besides, my name isn’t David or Susan. Aren’t I qualified?”

Out of nowhere, a Jim Ward sign which has been sloppily attached to a Brenda Burns’ sign flies off in a wind gust and hits a defenseless bystander in the head.

OMG, she’s been injured. Someone yells, “Jim, what have you done!”

Narrator: “Now that was unnecessary. Can’t we all just play by the rules. If you say you’re going to run a clean campaign – - do it! Otherwise, you’re just another lying politician.”

  20. Larry P. Kennedy says:

Roger, if your name is David, how come you comment under the name Roger. I’m confused. But not as confused as Jim Ward is going to be after he loses miserably in this primary.

    Zing!

  21. Brenden says:

    LD17,
What are the “size requirements” for signs?

  22. Roger aka David Schweikert says:

Is that better? Do I look more like David now? Woohoo I get to play David Schweikert and throw my campaign down the toilet by spending all day refuting anonymous comments instead of knocking on doors and raising money. Yep that’s exactly what I’m doing, glued to my computer debating Jim Ward’s staffers. Yippee this is fun.

  23. Mr. Conservative says:

LD17, tell me what the sign requirements are in Scottdale. educate us, please!

  24. Proud Conservative says:

    Roger aka David Schweikert,
What?!?!?! Not only are you immature but you are mean. What is wrong with all of you? Thank goodness we can all use aliases because then we can say stupid and mean things that we wouldn’t want our children or friends or Pastor to know we are saying. Pull it together! Nobody likes a bad winner or a sore loser.

  25. Connie Concerned says:

    LD17,

Please enlighten us about the size requirements…because we all know – size does matter…..sorry could not help myself on that one. :)

  26. Susan says:

Silly people. You all know right from wrong, and it’s not right to attach your sign to your opponent’s sign. Shows bad character.

    Schweikert’s our guy.

  27. Elmer Bringleson says:

I’ve really had it with campaign signs…in my Scottsdale legislative District Paula Pennypacker is the only candidate to not use ANY Campaign signs.

Paula told me at an LD8 Republic meeting in May that her EGO wasn’t so big that she needed to see her name on every street corner.

    I liked her immediately!

On the other hand, we have Michelle Ugenti who is also running for the legislature. She obviously thinks one sign isn’t enough per corner. Sometimes she has two, three, four, even as many as five signs per corner. They are just revolting. The other day I got out of my car and counted and on one corner there were 85 signs on one corer (Not all Ugenti)

So there is plenty of blame to go around for illegal signs.

In Scottsdale signs are only allowed on PRIVATE Property with the permission of the property owner. The newspaper said that the only candidate who is within the law is Councilman Bob Littlefield. I hope the city crew takes all the illegal signs down.

  28. LD17 says:
  29. Brenden says:

Okay LD17, I’m letting you off of the hook to answer. The signs are to be no larger than 16 square feet. That doesn’t mean they have to be square! It takes a long sign to support that great last name, Schweikert! Have you noticed, LD17, that the signs aren’t as tall because they are longer? I know math is really hard for the Ward supporters.

  30. Conservative 2 the Bone says:

Only a person with a giant ego would say that the reason she didn’t have signs out was because SHE didn’t have to see her name on every corner. Hello?! Not the reason you put signs up. Name recognition is going to be a problem for her. I think the real reason is that her campaign funds match her claimed ego… really small.

  31. Double Decaf Latte says:

Schweikert has one letter less than Pennypacker. At least Paula had the good sense to stretch that long name all over hell and back.

And here’s what I think about the comment by “Conservative to the Bone”.

You Bonehead – Pennypacker has the same amount of Clean Election money that Ugenti and Kavenaugh has. She just chose to spend her money in different ways.

As for name recognition. If you are so stup[id that you vote for a man or woman because you saw their name on a sign you deserve the govt. we have here in Arizona.

If you read the paper for the past ten years you would have seen Paula’s name almost weekly talking about Scottsdale politics and conservative issues. Other than Representative Kavenagh, I’ve never seen nor heard of any of the other candidates running.

We’ll see if she made a wise choice not to use signs. My vote is YES!

  32. otasan says:

Oh Gabby, you’re so classy. He’s easy to pick on… did you learn that on the playground?

I’m sure Jim Ward was out there personally putting up signs, therefore the placement of the signs is both an indication of 1) his flailing campaign, and 2) his character.

@Otasan’s Wife – Now that made me laugh.

  33. Everyone Else On This Site says:

Jim Ward Sucks. He invented San Francisco and is best friends with Nancy Peolsi and they have popcorn together on the weekends.

Jim made George Lucas go bankrupt from all his stupid business decisions to George Lucas gave him a Shiny Red Jaguar to go away and the he carpetbagged all the way to CD-5.

David Schweikert has true character because his name is too long to fit on signs and he has the Constitution App for his iPhone and he really really really wants to be in congress so we should just let him.

Oh. Did I already say RINO? How about Carpetbagger?

  34. Conservative 2 the Bone says:

This bonehead doesn’t read the “paper”. I can’t stomach it. I had never heard of Paula Pennypacker until this campaign. The average Joe doesn’t research candidates and does vote based on name recognition. Of course I research candidates, I haven’t decided on Pennypacker yet.. for sure I won’t be voting for Michelle Ugenti (her husband has some interesting foreclosure reading on Maricopa.gov while married to Michelle) nor Eric Ulis (he owes a pretty penny in back child support). Kavanaugh rocks and will get my vote. As for my comment on her campaign dollars.. exactly!

  35. nightcrawler says:

Hey here is an idea..How about voting for a candidate based on where they stand on the issues..or how intelligent they are..or how they will benefit their constituents ?

If you chose to rate them based on who they are married to, how many signs they have (or don’t) or other nonsense, you get what you deserve.

  36. Double Decaf Latte says:

I shouldn’t have called you a bonehead. But I am very passionate about the sign issue.

I met Paula in May shortly after I read her blog on http://www.AZCentral.com.

Her decision to NOT do signs was long before she ever filed for Clean Election. If fact I remember Paula telling me that she had lobbied the Scottsdale City Council when it passed the sign ordinance that is currently in effect. Wouldn’t it be hypocritical of her to lobby the council then turning around and using signs herself? I think so – in fact, it is refreshing to meet a candidate who says and does the same thing.

If you haven’t made up your mind about a 2nd candidate in the race, you should make Kavenagh and Paula your two choices in LD 8.

    I am.

  37. Conservative 2 the Bone says:

    Hey nightcrawler,
If a person cannot manage their own finances so they dump a foreclosure property into their spouses name or if a person won’t pay for the support of their own child, I don’t care how they vote or how smart they are! If their own child can’t count on them neither can we! I am watching how people handle their personal affairs… it shows me who they really are. Character matters.

    Double Decaf Latte,
I have spent a little time researching Pennypacker and may just have a 2nd candidate. I didn’t know the history of the signs and am grateful for the info. Thanks! I have been called worse than bonehead so no harm done.

  38. Double Decaf Latte says:

Well Mr. or Ms. Conservative to the Bone – thanks for keeping an open mind about Paula. I got a flyer for her in the mail today that talks about the sign issue.

I really liked her quote, “No one can lead without listening. What concerns my neighbors concerns me.”

To me she has listened to what concerns people here in Scottsdale. People don’t like signs, I hear it all the time at the water cooler at work and at Starbucks. The other thing I’m finding people don’t like are those stupid recorded ROBO calls that candidates use.

The last time I saw Paula at Safeway she assured me that she wasn’t going to use ROBO calls using those either.

I used to go all out for the Republican Party and it’s candidates. Now I do my research, I don’t vote for candidates who just talk trash about their opponents, I don’t vote for people who just want a job and like you it sounds like we are in agreement about not voting for people who can’t make their child support payments, smack around women or candidates who can’t manage their own personal finances.

I do hope you and others will give Paula another look. We do get to vote for two votes. Like I said Kavenagh get one of mine and Paula gets the other.
