Will the voters overlook his history?

Salvino has no history as a voter or Republican, only a lengthy history of unprofessional behavior unfit for a Congressman

Turns out Chris Salvino, running for Congress in Arizona’s Congressional District 5, is just another slimy candidate. So far, many have been willing to overlook his Chapter 7 bankruptcy, where the judge found that he intentionally misled his own investors and breached his own contract, by leaving his investors high and dry when he went against his word and bailed on his bariatric surgery business. Many have even overlooked his unpaid tax lien, and getting evicted from his house. Something else they have overlooked is the fact he just now became a registered Republican, and has never voted in a Republican primary.

But now, with political consultant Nathan Sproul’s help (Sproul is a liberal Republican who spent an entire year bashing SB1070 sponsor Senator Russell Pearce, among other conservatives – Pearce and Rep. John Kavanagh have both endorsed David Schweikert), Salvino has proven himself to be a liar by breaking his promise not to engage in dirty campaign tactics. He is attacking the leading Republican in the primary, David Schweikert, by making unfounded attacks on Schweikert’s successful small business.

This is the lowest of the low. Salvino is desperately trying to smear Schweikert to make him look as sleazy as himself but fortunately the voters of Arizona’s Congressional District 5 will see right through it. Salvino is no conservative by choosing to pal around with consultants who bash Arizona’s leading conservatives on illegal immigration and other issues important to conservatives. Don’t be fooled.

Comments

  1. Mark says:

Wow, I had no idea this guy was as dirty as he is. Ouch!

  2. Steve Calabrese says:

Why is this guy even in this race? He has no chance of accomplishing anything other than causing a minor amount of Republican infighting.

Harry Mitchell is at his weakest, and all of a sudden we have an influx of “Republicans” who have never even voted in an Arizona Republican primary suddenly deciding they would make good Congressmen. Something stinks.

  3. Mr. Conservative says:

I think he’s mad at Schweikert because he has to rent for the next four or five years. Salvino needs to clean up his own life first before he tries to clean up congress.

  4. Brian Tea Party AZ says:

    Salvino just lost my vote.

    I stand for principles.

He told my tea party group he wouldn’t go negative. I’m disappointed!

  5. Sheila T says:

    Researching Salvino makes me angry.

    What a con man.

How did this guy really think he could run for Congress? He belongs in a 12 step program, not elective office!

  6. Jim Torgeson says:

    Where was his diatribe published?

I hate the fact that there are so many carpetbaggers and Johnny-come-Latelys running. I can forgive any man his trespasses, but he best not live in a glass house.

  7. The Shark says:

On honor of Shark Week, I vote Schweikert gnawed this joker’s head off?

    Con-man-munch-munch-munch.

  8. Enough is Enough says:

It’s time to treat Congressmen like CEOs. A Congressman spends way more money than a CEO anyway.

This Salvino doctor could not run a business and would be unable to land any job that requires leadership skills in the private sector.

He would not be able to pass a job interview.

But he wants to be in Congress. Because he just knows so much. Because he can write a speech.

Schweikert has a track record of originality in office. He was a good legislator, and he took what used to be an administrative job and turned it into a vehicle to publicize spending. When he was treasurer he made sure everyone’s property tax assessments stated why they were collecting the money and where it was going.

Salivo? Well he’s gone bankrupt and has been accused of fraud. Wonder who is behind him since he’s never been active before.

  9. Henry S Johnson says:

I have heard several unsavory things about Dr. Salvino over the last few months. I cannot stand the notion that Tea Partiers would even consider this guy for Congress. Are you kidding? This guy is to tea partiers what Obama is to Americans.

  10. johnny says:

what exactly has he been saying? The article doesnt even say…

  11. Fred Priest says:

Salvino has only been endorsed by one or two Tea Parties, and he has only got those because he hangs out with them. AZ 2010 Project is one of them. They have 15 members. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

  12. Maria G says:

Salvino attacked David’s family and business.

I got it in the mail today.

I already voted for Schweikert in the mail.

  13. Jonas says:

What I resent is Salvino’s fake new interest in border security. This dude has never voted, never been active in Republican politics, but thinks he can waltz in and pretend to be the equivalent of Russell Pearce – while hiring a political consultant who attacks Pearce. What a fraud.

  14. Anna says:

Trying to play dirty politics with David Schweikert was really stupid of Salvino since his past out of state problems have followed him here. How stupid can someone be when they
know if they play dirty their own dirt will get dug up. I guess he saw how well this tactic worked with Mccains campaign. I will not vote for McCain because of his dirty commercials
nor would I vote for Salvino or even go into JC LIncoln Trauma room. David Schweikert has shown Arizona who he is and he is great! I want him to represent AZ for sure. Glad Salvino did this so the other candidates can now show the truth about this guy who really does not deserve to be in the race.

  15. Levelheaded Republican says:

This one is easy to explain. Schweikert has this race nearly wrapped up, so Dr. Salvino is resorting to last minute dirty tactics. No surprise here. But not wise on the part of Salvino – people will remember this in the future if he tries to run for office again. And there is no political consultant with a worse reputation in Arizona than Nathan Sproul. Salvino has now tied that albatross around his neck.

  16. Mandolyn says:

I have heard Dr Salvino speak a few times. The first time I heard him talk, it sounded exactly like a speech Schweikert gave at a debate a few years back. I remember it well because it struck a cord with me and sounded a lot like how I would want our tax structure to go and bring back jobs to the US!! And honestly when asked a direct question Salvino just spews the same speech he has spewed before and not really answering the question. And please, please someone explain to me how being the only campaign to write a dissertation on a subject makes him qualified to represent me? I have written quite a few in my college days, that in NO WAY makes me qualified to run for office. But yet Salvino touts that like it is some kind of accomplishment. But I guess here is what bothers me most. I have heard him say that he would not go negative, he couldn’t keep that promise, how can we trust him to keep the promises he is making to the voters? Very disappointed Doc. All these hit pieces on Schweikert puts him in such a bad place. If he hits back then he is accused of slinging mud, when he is just speaking the truth and responding to the negative attacks on him. But if he says nothing then he looks like he has something to hide. And he doesn’t, he is an open book. These other candidates are just grasping at straws because they have nothing real on him. It is sad and just dirty politics.

  17. Annie Oakley says:

Salvino is turning out to be just another guy that woke up one day and thought “oh, I guess I’ll run for Congress”! Most people would be ashamed to have everyone find out about unethical business practices and bankruptcy, but these characters contesting Schweikert in the primary all have dirty laundry they can’t wait for folks to find out about! I especially think that if your own embarrassments weren’t bad enough you wouldn’t want the endorsement of a sex offender and then refer to that individual as a “great american”.
The rest of the contenders in CD5 consist of a carpetbagger, lobbyist and I really don’t know what to say about the last candidate.
The only truly honest and upstanding citizen in the race is David Schweikert. David is the man that all of CD5 should promote and support to represent us in Congress!

  18. Dick says:

My concern is his pledge not to go negative.

What kind of candidate goes back on his word before he gets elected!

Who does he think he is, Jim Ward?

What a joke! Salvino you disgust me. I was actually rooting for you…

  19. John says:

I knew Salvino wasn’t the man to vote for when he answered my question of “Is Health Care a Right–something somebody is inherently entitled to as a part of their humanity.” He answered …. YES. No Doc, health care is a service, not a right–we’re all pissed about ObamaCare and YOU think you have the answer, but yet answer in the affirmative that health care is a right. Think again. Go to the back of the line. I’m voting for David.

  20. Hatshipsuit says:

I am so disgusted by the spurious attacks on Schweikert by opponents like Sorvino, Ward, Bitter-Smith etc.. I could scream! These people have no honor, no integrity and nothing to offer except their thirst for power, and questionable dealings in their past, and who knows? Maybe even now. VOTE FOR SCHWEIKERT! He is the only one we need in Congress!

  21. The Mole says:

In order for anyone to take the comment seriously, the candidate must first be taken seriously. Salvino fails on both accounts. Seriously.

  22. Brett Weir says:

    Here’s the bottom line…

Chris, sorry “Doctor Chris” Salvino, and Jim “Skywalker” Ward are both scared of David and they know they are going to lose. At this point they will say and do whatever they can. Make no mistake, neither will be fruitful in their efforts. Go ahead slime balls… keep digging your graves. David is going to destroy you on August 24th (if he hasn’t already) and then it’s on to Washington!!

  23. Arizona Ranger says:

    Friends,
As the primary voting date gets closer and closer, we will be entertained by some real mud slinging comments by both Ward and Salvino. It kind of reminds me of that saying:

“When you cannot baffle them with your brilliance, dazzle them
    with your BS”

Both Ward and Salvino are desparate men and desparate men will say ANYTHING to accomplish their goals.
Salvino is a washed-up crook and Ward is a carpetbagger from California who was a lousy “manager”. Neither of them deserve our respect or our vote.
You should also note that Mr. Schwiekert has not resorted to running negative advertising-he doesn’t need to. He is a man of great ethics and high moral conviction. I say that because I truly know Schwiekert and what he stands for. And he has a tremendous track record from when he was our Treasurer.
David Schwiekert is a man we can trust to do the right thing.
It is time to discard the whining, mud-slinging duo of Ward and
Salvino. This is the year for David Schwiekert!!

  24. Allis Husker says:

You know, when I moved to Arizona 20 years ago a governor had been impeached, a woman with the most spectacular beehive I had ever seen was pinch-hitting as governor, a governor was not elected by a large enough percentage in November and there was a run-off election that next March! Immediately following this mess half the state legislature is implicated in “Azscam”! At the time, all I could think about is what kind of lunatic asylum had I decided to reside.
Well folks, this is actually far more entertaining! There are people running for Congress in CD5 that simply shock and amaze with their past indiscretions and embellished fabrications of their version of the truth.
David Schweikert is the only legitimate candidate for Congress in CD5. He has a solid record of standing up for what is right and a common sense approach to spending and taxation. David the the right choice for CD5!!!!

  25. The Dude! says:

I’m sure all of Salvino’s like 29 campaign donors will really appreciate his spending all their contributions on a negative attack on the only candidate in this race who can beat Mitchell, and that’s conservative warrior David Schweikert.

Good going Salvino. Real classy. Nail in the foot. Not only will you lose miserably, but you’ll lose without your integrity.

Salvino – - if you’re such a trusted conservative on border issues, how come your campaign operatives have a history of attacking SB1070 author Russell Pearce.

  26. Bambie Bam Bam McBambister says:

If you thought Blago was bad.

    Here comes Salvo…

The Salvino method of paying bills is to move states to try and stall the feds investigating you for a few years…

    I’m not kidding!

This man would be a train wreck in Congress.

  27. Mr. Conservative says:

I just wanna know what kind of a person gets excited over getting endorsed by a creepy sex offender who used to dance naked in his garage in West Ahwatukee? We don’t need people like that in congress!!!

  28. china delay says:

i think what bugs me the most is that suddenly everyone is a conservative. and when it comes to guys like sorvino and ward, the operative part of the word is “con.” this guy can’t run his own finaces honestly and responsibly, so how is he going to help with the most important issue confronting us: our out of control spending and debt crisis? give me a guy like schweikert any time. his time in the legislature proved he’s a real conservative. and this guy has guts. because he wouldn’t buckle to the spenders down at the capitol, the republic has never liked him. “too far to the right” (in other words, “too principled.”) in other words, just the kind of real conservative cd5 needs.

  29. Serious Sally says:

Up until now things have been good. All candidates discussed the isses and their stands. One by one they are all going negative Ward, Salvino… People in glass houses should not throw stones folks. Mitchell will rip these folks up. David knows how to beat Harry/Nancy/Obama.
Vote in David today and on Aug 24th

  30. Brad C says:

Nathan Sproul runs another hopeless campaign. Salvino will be lucky if he places 4th in CD5.

Has Lincoln Strategy ever won an election?

Weren’t they the ones that lost the gay marriage initiative in AZ? Every single state in the US had passed it when it was put in front of voters, but Sproul blew it.

  31. Bobby Baby says:

    Brad,
Sproul is not perfect. But, he is not a liberal Republican. He is more conservative than most political consultants in this or any other state.
The problem is Salvino is not “just like you” or me for that matter. I am looking for someone who I can believe in who can beat Mitchell. David Schweikert had his chance last time. He blew it then and will blow it again.
I am tired of not having a voice at the federal level. Someone has to prove to me that they can beat Harry.

  32. Who are all of these posters? Sounds like David hit the panic button tonight.

Funny thing I didn’t get the Salvino piece but i did get a Schweikert attack on Jim Ward and his family.

When will all of these posters denounce David for that one? Do two wrongs really make a right? Not in my church.

  33. Sweet Pea says:

Salvino can’t beat Mitchell, there is too much to discredit Salvino with. Bitter Smith is not a real conservative with her pro choice stance, Ward’s a carpetbagger who has no chance against Harry. Ward can’t even do negative right.

David Schweikert is the only one who can and will beat Harry. One loss does not make a loser. Giving up, makes a loser. David does not give up.

We all need to wake up and back the candidate that knows how to win against Harry. Vote David in and we all win.

  34. I’m pretty sure the only panic going on right now is Jim Ward and Chris Salvino’s campaign realizing they have to attack David to move anywhere in the polls.

Schweikert’s got more than a comfortable lead.

    How do I know?

    I’m Honest Abe. I wouldn’t tell a lie.

  35. Bill says:

Man, this really is overkill. This is the Ward posting redux.

    Schweikert gang, relax.

  36. Reagan's Torch says:

With due respect, this campaign is all about a time for choosing.

Do you want someone who has no idea how to fight for freedom as your next Rep–a tax dodging con man who takes advantage of investors and the taxpayers…

  37. Carlist says:

Salvino and Ward are nothing more than “ringers” for Bittersmith.

And as such they’re doing Susan’s dirty work this time around whereas she threw the mud herself two years ago!

  38. nightcrawler says:

    Carlist,

I don’t believe that for a moment. However, SBS is definitely benefiting from all of this. With the Arizona Republic endorsement and a low profile she might very well attract more votes than many of you expect.

  39. johnny says:

All this infighting is just recreating 2008 all over again. All these hit pieces on david do the dems opposition research for them. It gives them all these things to attack david on…

If this keeps up for the next 3 weeks get ready for 2 more years of mitchell.

  40. Steve Calabrese says:

I really, really usually hate it when I agree with johnny – who traditionally is most definately NOT a Schweikert fan.

But he’s right. Schweikert is our best chance to unseat Mitchell. As Republicans, anything else is a distraction.

It doesn’t bother Salvino and Ward, since they barely qualify as Republicans. They TALK like Republicans, but where have they been? Not voting in Republican primaries, that’s for sure.

  41. AZJack says:

No more crooks. We got enough of those in BOS.

  42. otasan says:

Instead of “American Post Gazette” why don’t you just call it “Schweikert Gazette?”

I find it hilarious that the Schweikert crew is now going after Salvino.

Salvino is working with (infamous RINO) Chad Willems. You know him- he’s the guy behind Sheriff Joe’s recent “re-election” ads bashing Rick Romley.

So obviously, that means Chris Salvino is a RINO, Chad Willems is a RINO, and Joe Arpaio is a RINO. Which then makes Rick Romley not a RINO?

Wait, I’m so confused. Can I get a RINO guide that tells me who the current RINOs are?

I mean, I know nobody is as conservative as David Schweikert, the truest conservative to ever walk the Earth, but where does everyone else fall on the list?

Oh, and all you people crying about Ward or Salvino mildly attacking your hero David Schweikert are either ignorant, have short memories, or are liars.

David is a nasty campaigner. He brags about politics being a “blood sport” and thriving on the “blood-letting.”

But despite his nastiness, he’s a two-time loser for this seat. He can’t beat Harry Mitchell.

If he wins the primary, he’ll lose the general.

  43. otasan says:

@Annie Oakley – Isn’t “guys who wake up and decide to run for Congress” what the whole tea party movement is supposed to be about?

You know, citizen legislators and all that?

Not everyone in this race has been chasing a seat in congress since 1994 like David has.

  44. otasan says:

I’m also not quite sure why a picture of a congressional candidate in a boat is relevant.

But I guess when you put out anonymous hit pieces like this you’re free to do whatever you want.

It’s so freeing to be able to bash people without signing your name, isn’t it “Common Sense”?

  45. johnny says:

    Steve,

Thanks for agreeing with me. I know that doesn’t happen often.

Every penny schweikert has to spend defending these stupid attacks is money he doesn’t have in the general. And with the nrcc having not helped david last time and the DCCC already pledging money to Mitchell david already will be at a major cash disadvantage.

  46. otasan says:

@johnny – I’m pretty sure Harry Mitchell & Co. already have everything they need to win against David. You know, since they whomped him by 9 points 2 years ago.

    So nice try.

I wonder why David has to spend any money at all. I’d think he should be where he needs to be with name ID, etc based on his previous runs.

Could it be that the voters of CD-5 just don’t want David Schweikert to be their congressman?

  47. otasan says:

One last thing… It’s OK for David to run a negative campaign because he never promised not to, but not OK for Ward or Salvino to do so, because they said they wouldn’t.

    Do I have that right?

  48. Tojo says:

otasan- first it’s otosan with a long o sound. second your name should be Baka yarou or Bakasan at a minimum.

David will win easily. None of the other candidates could come close to winning the general.

  49. No guts, no glory says:

Wow! The Schweikert machine is sure active on this one. Must have gotten desturbing polling results. It’s so easy to tell when the machine is at work, no opposition posts until in the higher numbered responses. Give it a rest folks.

  50. cinqo says:

I love the “attack on David’s family and business” — uh, it said Schweikert’s company is a vulture fund. Now, David has talked about his venture on the campaign trail. He makes it sound like he just started this little business after he lost the election to Harry Mitchell in 2008. The reality is he started this business in 2006 while he was the appointed County Treasurer and running for the seat full time. He also talks about how the Treasurer job was a job he “loved” and couldn’t think of doing anything else — except start a business in real estate, while serving as county treasurer, who has access to a lot of real estate data…
