JD Hayworth Announces TEA Party Endorsements, Contract with Arizona

Here’s the video from today’s press conference conducted by JD Hayworth and representatives from 16 TEA Party organizations. At the press conference, TEA Party leaders announced their support of JD Hayworth before JD spoke and signed a Contract with Arizona. Here is the press conference in its entirety which certainly does not reconcile with what Dan Nowicki wrote in his blog today.

Tea Parties Endorse JD Hayworth and Hayworth Signs ‘Contract With Arizona’ from JD Hayworth for U.S. Senate on Vimeo.

Of course, John McCain sent two staffers to the event. One video taped and the other dressed up in a pig outfit. Has a sitting Senator of 28 years NO SHAME!  I still find it unbelievable that an incumbent would go on the attack on a challenger! This shows the real character of John McCain: angry, vindictive, vengeful, and definitely unstatesmanlike.

There’s a lot more I’d like to say directly to John McCain and his immature staff, but I’d break my own rules of decency here and so I’ll restrain myself.

Press Release:McCAIN CAMPAIGN RESPONSE TO HAYWORTH’S SO-CALLED “CONTRACT WITH ARIZONA”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Monday, August 2, 2010

PHOENIX, AZ – During a press conference at his campaign headquarters today, Congressman Hayworth unveiled his campaign platform, unoriginally dubbed the “Contract with Arizona.” We find it odd that Hayworth would wait until three weeks before the election – and after early voting had already started – to tell voters what he’d do if they elect him.

In response to Congressman Hayworth’s laughably thin “Contract with Arizona,” McCain 2010 Communications Director Brian Rogers released the following statement:

“Congressman Hayworth’s so-called ‘Contract with Arizona’ is nothing more than a patchwork of failed legislative proposals from his own past, ideas stolen from other politicians, and initiatives that Senator McCain and his colleagues are already pursuing. It’s laughable that Congressman Hayworth would use this big moment to issue a term limit pledge that he’s already broken and promise to introduce a bill — the ‘Enumerated Powers Act’ — that’s already active legislation co-sponsored by Senator McCain. Arizona voters deserve better than an agenda sketched out on the back of cocktail napkin.

“It’s strange that Congressman Hayworth spent the bulk of his press conference this morning actually defending the wasteful and corrupt earmark spending process that’s mortgaged our children’s future and landed Members of Congress in jail. Just as voters revoked Congressman Hayworth’s contract in 2006 by throwing him out of office, they’re in no mood to elect a big-spending Washington lobbyist and ‘free money’ infomercial pitchman in 2010.” – McCain 2010 Communications Director Brian Rogers

Notes on the content of Congressman Hayworth’s so-called “Contract with Arizona”:

  • In the “contract,” Hayworth pledges to introduce in the Senate the ‘Constitutional Citation Act,’ which he admits is the same as the  ‘Enumerated Powers Act,’ a piece of legislation first proposed over a decade ago by Rep. John Shadegg. Apparently Congressman Hayworth is unaware that Senator Tom Coburn already introduced the Enumerated Powers Act in the Senate as S. 3159 in June 2008, and again as S.1319 in June 2009. In both cases, Senator McCain signed on as an original co-sponsor the day the bill was introduced.
  • In the “contract,” Hayworth pledges to serve only two consecutive terms in the United States Senate. But as a congressman in 1998, Hayworth said he would only serve six terms in the House, and then lost in 2006 trying to run for a seventh. Congressman Hayworth broke his word before, so how can the voters trust him now?
  • In the “contract,” Hayworth pledges to introduce in the Senate the “Congressional Responsibility Act,” a piece of legislation he introduced multiple times in the House, but failed to get a vote on. Does Congressman Hayworth think failed proposals from his own legislative history are really the best prescription for America’s future?
  • In the “contract,” Hayworth pledges to introduce in the Senate his ‘Enforcement First Act.’ But when Hayworth first introduced the legislation as a member of Congress, he wasn’t even able to get a committee hearing on the bill, let alone a vote. And while Hayworth recently claimed the Enforcement First Act had “more than 100 co-sponsors,” the bill in fact had a mere 33 co-sponsors.
  • In the “contract,” Hayworth pledges to support all efforts to repeal and/or defund Obamacare. But Senator McCain is already fighting the battle to defund that legislation, and is a co-sponsor of Senator Jim DeMint’s bill that would repeal Obamacare.
  • In the “contract,” Hayworth pledges to introduce efforts to audit the Federal Reserve. In fact, the Senate already voted unanimously early this year – with Senator McCain voting yes – to do exactly that.
  • In the “contract,” Hayworth pledges to introduce legislation to reform the earmark process. This is a shallow attempt to cover his own abhorrent record on the earmark issue. Congressman Hayworth was an “enthusiastic” pork barrel earmarker during his 12 years in Washington, while Senator McCain has never requested an earmark.

Chris Salvino for Congress: Just another slimy candidate

Will the voters overlook his history?

Salvino has no history as a voter or Republican, only a lengthy history of unprofessional behavior unfit for a Congressman

Turns out Chris Salvino, running for Congress in Arizona’s Congressional District 5, is just another slimy candidate. So far, many have been willing to overlook his Chapter 7 bankruptcy, where the judge found that he intentionally misled his own investors and breached his own contract, by leaving his investors high and dry when he went against his word and bailed on his bariatric surgery business. Many have even overlooked his unpaid tax lien, and getting evicted from his house. Something else they have overlooked is the fact he just now became a registered Republican, and has never voted in a Republican primary.

But now, with political consultant Nathan Sproul’s help (Sproul is a liberal Republican who spent an entire year bashing SB1070 sponsor Senator Russell Pearce, among other conservatives – Pearce and Rep. John Kavanagh have both endorsed David Schweikert), Salvino has proven himself to be a liar by breaking his promise not to engage in dirty campaign tactics. He is attacking the leading Republican in the primary, David Schweikert, by making unfounded attacks on Schweikert’s successful small business.

This is the lowest of the low. Salvino is desperately trying to smear Schweikert to make him look as sleazy as himself but fortunately the voters of Arizona’s Congressional District 5 will see right through it. Salvino is no conservative by choosing to pal around with consultants who bash Arizona’s leading conservatives on illegal immigration and other issues important to conservatives. Don’t be fooled.

Rasmussen:McCain pummels Glassman; Glassman beats Hayworth

This cannot be a good day for Team Hayworth.  It is now absolutely apparent that not only can JD Hayworth not win the GOP nomination, but if pigs fly between now and August 24th…the Democrat wins in November.

Once again, in almost 3:1 ratio, voters polled dislike Hayworth with a 15 % favorable and 40% unfavorable rating.   This latest Rasmussen poll was taken on July 29th, following both debates.

McCain, as the incumbent, is polling well above the range that would have him in danger of losing and solidifies Arizona as a solid Republican seat.

LD 12’s Sen. Nelson Devoid of Ideas, Needs to Retire

Immitation is the highest form of flattery. 74 year old incumbent Sen. John Nelson is so devoid of ideas that he has to steal ideas from his younger, conservative challenger, Clark Silver. Clark pointed to Florida’s educational system as a model for Arizona to follow at the Clean Elections debate. Since the debate, the tired Nelson glommed onto the idea and parroted Clark Silver’s statements in the West Valley View newspaper (pp. 10 & 11). No voter should believe that a 21 year incumbent that has done little to nothing to change the status quo in education will suddenly champion changes that will require political backbone. This is especially true when Nelson is beholden to the establishment for donations and endorsements. Voters should not vote for a copy cat when they can have the real deal, Clark Silver. Like the U.S. Senate candidate Nelson endorsed, Nelson will promise you the moon and stars at election time, then revert to politics as usual if re-elected. Flip-flops like this should always be viewed as insincere. It is also a sign that a candidate fears losing an election or losing a segment of the electorate when he copies the platform of another candidate.

Obama Says Yes To Tom Horne’s Amnesty Plan For Illegal Immigrants; Horne Wrong For AZ Attorney General

PHOENIX, ARIZONA. AUGUST 2, 2010. Tom Horne has a plan for granting amnesty to illegal immigrants.  Read about it in his own words here.  And guess who agrees with it?  President Obama.

Last week word leaked out about President Obama’s possible plan to circumvent Congress and impose Tom Horne-like amnesty plans on America.

President Obama is wrong.  Tom Horne is wrong.  But support for amnesty is not where the similarities end.  They both support taxpayer funded abortions.  They both support tax increases.  They both are softer on the Second Amendment than conservative Andrew Thomas.  In fact, Tom Horne used to be a liberal Democrat like Obama before deciding to run for office in Arizona.  One of the only places they really differ is that, unlike Obama, Horne has been banned for life by the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission for defrauding investors.

These reasons and many more are why Arizona law enforcement, Arizona Sheriffs, Arizona Right to Life and the NRAare flocking to Andrew Thomas for Attorney General.

Thomas is endorsed by Arizona law enforcement officers such as Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever, Yavapai County Sheriff Steve Waugh and Graham County Sheriff Preston “P.J.” Allred.  Mohave County Attorney Matthew Smith, Phoenix Law Enforcement Association, and the Arizona Police Association, former Arizona State Senator Jonathan Paton, the NRA, State Senator Russell Pearce, sponsor of SB1070 and Congressman Tom Tancredo also have endorsed him.  In fact, Tancredo withdrew his endorsement of Horne after learning of his amnesty plan and endorsed Thomas.

During Thomas’ time in office, crime rates plummeted.  The 19 percent drop is more than twice the national rate of decline, in despite of an 11 percent increase in the county’s population during that time.  The illegal immigrant population has dropped by anywhere from 18 percent (Dept. of Homeland Security estimate) to 30 percent (Center for Immigration Studies estimate). Like the fall in crime rates, this dramatic decline in illegal immigration is far greater than the average in the rest of the nation.

Thomas has a track record of successfully defending illegal immigration crackdowns in our courts, including his successful efforts to prosecute illegal immigrants for conspiring to violate the state’s human-smuggling law and to defend Prop 200′s voter ID requirements and the employer-sanctions law, which he defended along with theAttorney General’s Office.

If elected Attorney General Thomas has pledged to expand that office’s prosecutions of illegal immigrants under the state’s human smuggling laws. The office is not currently pursuing such prosecutions.

Thomas is married with four children.  He is a graduate of Harvard Law School.  Prior to serving as Maricopa CountyAttorney, Thomas served as an assistant attorney general for Arizona, deputy counsel and criminal justice policy advisor to the Governor, special assistant to the Director of the Arizona Department of Corrections, and a deputy county attorney.

Just in case you missed it…..

Greg Patterson has a new post up on Espresso Pundit…

http://www.espressopundit.com/2010/08/unfit-to-serve.html#comments

Greg makes his case for why he is NOT voting for Andrew Thomas and IS voting for Tom Horne.

The sentiments expressed are echoed by long-time conservatives across the state.  These people understand Tom Horne is not a closet Democrat.  He is very much like many others of his generation who grew up in homes and areas where the Democratic party was very different than what it is now.  They also understand the reality of just who is Andrew Thomas.

Tom Horne served for years as a Republican, has fought the fight against Ethnic Studies and Bilingual Education, took the state to the highest court in the land when Napolitano & Goddard refused to combat the huge costs of illegal immigration in our schools.

Horne is a highly ethical, professional and accomplished attorney with the skills, experience, and the ability to serve this state well.

As for Thomas…well as Greg put it…

… this is the only time that I have found a nice guy who is bright, isn’t overtly corrupt,  understands the issues and is generally with me but whose judgment is so bad that I would vote for any other candidate.”
