AG Candidate Andrew Thomas Unveils First TV Commercial: “Conservative vs. Con Man”

Attorney General Candidate Andrew Thomas Unveils First Commercial of Campaign: “Conservative vs. Con Man”

PHOENIX, ARIZONA JULY 20, 2010.  Andrew Thomas’ campaign for Arizona Attorney General unveiled its first television commercial today: “Conservative vs. Con Man”.  It is scheduled to begin airing statewide.
The video can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtJgeuXLA_0
The spot highlights Thomas’ success reducing crime and illegal immigration, as well as Tom Horne’s banishment for life by the SEC for financial fraud.
Thomas has been endorsed by notable Arizona law enforcement leaders including Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Yavapai County Sheriff Steve Waugh, Mohave County Attorney Matthew Smith, Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever, Phoenix Law Enforcement Association, Arizona Police Association and former Arizona Attorney General and NRA President Bob Corbin.  Former Arizona State Senator Jonathan Paton, Arizona Right to Life and former Congressman Tom Tancredo have endorsed Thomas as well.
During Thomas’ time in office, crime rates plummeted.  The 19 percent drop is more than twice the national rate of decline, in despite of an 11 percent increase in the county’s population during that time.  The illegal immigrant population has dropped by anywhere from 18 percent (Dept. of Homeland Security estimate) to 30 percent (Center for Immigration Studies estimate). Like the fall in crime rates, this dramatic decline in illegal immigration is far greater than the average in the rest of the nation.
Thomas has a track record of successfully defending illegal immigration crackdowns in our courts, including his successful efforts to prosecute illegal immigrants for conspiring to violate the state’s human-smuggling law and to defend Prop 200′s voter ID requirements and the employer-sanctions law, which he defended along with the Attorney General’s Office.
If elected Attorney General Thomas has pledged to expand that office’s prosecutions of illegal immigrants under the state’s human smuggling laws. The office is not currently pursuing such prosecutions.
Thomas is married with four children.  He is a graduate of Harvard Law School.  Prior to serving as Maricopa County Attorney, Thomas served as an assistant attorney general for Arizona, deputy counsel and criminal justice policy advisor to the Governor, special assistant to the Director of the Arizona Department of Corrections, and a deputy county attorney.
To schedule an interview please contact Jason Rose.  For more information about Andrew Thomas, please go to www.ThomasforArizona.com.

Sheriff Arpaio and John Huppenthal to Hold Education Town Hall in Scottsdale

Press Release

Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Senator John Huppenthal, Chairman of the Senate Education Committee and Candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction, will be hosting an Education Town Hall on July 22 at 6:30 pm at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library Auditorium.

Education is one of the most critical issues facing our state:

  • How do we reduce the school drop-out rate?  How do we prevent juvenile delinquency?  What effect will reducing the drop-out rate have on juvenile crime?
  • What every parent should know about drugs and substance abuse in our schools.
  • How do we ensure the continued use of English immersion in our schools?
  • How can we ground our students with respect for the Constitution and our Founding Fathers and imbue them with a proper sense of our country’s history?
  • Why are only half of our students reading by the end of the 4th grade; how do we improve literacy and reading proficiency? What are the effects of illiteracy on crime?
  • Can Arizona compete on a national or world stage in math and science?

Discussion will focus on how to improve education in Arizona, the challenges we face, our education standing relative to other states and related issues. Come join a lively discussion!

Details: Thursday, July 22, 2010,  6:30-8:30 pm, Scottsdale Civic Center Library Auditorium, 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ 85251-4452

JPD: DISHONEST BLOGGER/CAMPAIGN HACK REVEALED!

By Steven Robinson

Since I first joined Arizona Tea Party and Greater Phoenix Tea Party networks, six months ago, I have found blogging to be both exhilarating and exhausting.  I’ve enjoyed it, been extremely upset and energized by what others post.  People can be as anonymous or open as they choose, for a variety of reasons.  Most often it is to protect their privacy from those who would use deign to harm them.  However, most everyone who are members those two Tea Party sites, and others, plus anyone following the US Senate race on these sites are familiar with many Jim Deakin supporters; and most certainly are well aware of one JPD.  I became aware of his blogs shortly after JD Hayworth entered the race four months ago, when this person began accusing Hayworth of being nothing like a “Consistent Conservative”.  JPD has called JD a “progressive”, “porker”, “earmark lover” among many other claims.  He has misrepresented votes on bills as something they are not, being a very active member of Jim Deakin’s campaign though probably not in an official capacity.  That is simply to provide cover for this nameless, faceless attack dog for Jim Deakin, who indeed loves this ‘cover of darkness.

I have to thank JPD for these accusations though; it made me dig into JD’s congressional record to research his votes.  What I found out by reviewing American Conservative Union, National Journal and “Ontheissues.org” among others was that NOTHING could be further from the truth!  JD’s record of supporting tax cuts, border enforcement and other key issues were so fundamentally solid that one rating service went so far as to describe JD as a “Hard Core Conservative”!

So, I do understand why JPD chose to misrepresent JD’s record, HE supports Jim Deakin and when JD Hayworth entered the race, whatever support Deakin envisioned would come from the conservative camp dried up like a lonely poppy plant in the scorching Mojave Desert.  This is exactly why Chris Simcox exited the race and supported JD.  Yet Jim Deakin had no intention of leaving the race, and very much needed whatever exposure occurred from the blogosphere.  However, JPD was certainly NOT justified in his misleading, lying and distortion-filled attacks on JD’s record.  He simply lied on behalf of Jim Deakin and that is unacceptable!

What always troubled me about JPD’s attacks, were that he did NOT simply focus on JD Hayworth’s record.  He began attacking JD’s supporters and especially me since my posts early on were disproving JPD’s and other supporters of Jim Deakin to be blatantly false!  Yes, JD voted for “No Child Left Behind” and the “Patriot Act”; and well meaning patriots can disagree without being disagreeable about their constitutionality.  But more than that, JPD and other like-minded supporters began making personal attacks, questioning my integrity, and calling me names. They were also getting control of groups like ICaucus and the Arizona group of Resistnet, then banning me for trumped up reasons.  I was even viciously attacked by a LD3 candidate who strongly supported Jim Deakin for a perceived attempt to derail his campaign!  In that case NOTHING could be further from the truth!  Ultimately due to his false claims I researched his records and found out that he was NOT qualified to run in the LD3 GOP legislative race and he had to withdraw.  I don’t know, but it’s even possible that he could be prosecuted for filing a false affidavit with the State of Arizona.

When I began blogging, I had chosen to be anonymous, using the name “Radical American Patriot”. Shortly after, I decided that I was willing to stand behind my words, and began using my real name and my picture.  I must confess that I was really ‘hacked’ that JPD would make his sneak attacks and run back and hide in his hovel, smirking about how he got someone good!  Now what I say next is really despicable.  JPD was being fed information from either Les White or Kelly Townsend of Greater Phoenix Tea Party website about me and their site!  He recently posted a comment on some website, stating that Suzanne and I had been reinstated.  What? I had NOT received notice to that effect, so HOW did JPD know other than Les or Kelly told him?  Further, somehow they found out information on an unaffiliated Tea Party in Phoenix and ALSO revealed private information about this Tea Party to JPD! In my opinion these two, as well as JPD are thoroughly discredited by their actions.  It truly bothers me when people make vicious personal attacks from their anonymity. So I decided to do some research into JPD, and HERE IS WHAT I FOUND!

JPD is none other than Joseph Peter Danielek, residing in Avondale, Arizona.  He has a son named S***** (I will not reveal his name, he is not involved, unless he’s using an alias as well.). His wife, Carlene recently joined ICAUCUS, under the name “Carlene D”.  I even believe that she has joined in the past two or three days again, under simply “Carlene”. Joseph Peter recently stated that he is 54 years old and that is correct.  To his credit a friend of mine who had spoken with him at the Bullhead City Tea Party, thought he looked much younger.  Unfortunately, she said he looked “unkempt”, like he could be someone who sat in his mother’s basement all day in his underwear, blogging, hacking and whatever computer geeks do all day, besides making money!  Oh well, there’s much more research I could do to find out if he owns his home, works for someone, etc.  My point simply is to inform people about two matters.  JUST WHO is Jim Deakin’s greatest promoter, propagandist and prevaricator; and ALSO you can’t trust the Greater Phoenix Tea Party website with ANY personal information!  Be careful about joining that site, because, IF they will ‘provide’ personal information when such actions suits them.

So, from now one, when you see JPD on any post, you’ll know who he is and why he makes the claims he does.  I suspect that he will disappear into the woodwork, just like Jim Deakin plans to do after this election.  Neither of them will have any future in the Republican Party here in Arizona, maybe with the Green Party, or any party supporting Jon Lovitz!  But neither of them has any future here on any political level.  They will have to ask themselves, was it really worth it all, becoming pariahs in the political community JUST to get John McCain re-elected?

Transformers aren’t just for kids…

Have You Seen Me?

Recently it has come to the attention of many Arizona conservative activists and tea party members that there are a number of Teachers Union candidates posing as Republicans in our legislative races — make no mistake about it, these are Trojan Horse candidates…also known as “Democrats in Disguise”, or “DID’s” for short.  They are supported by the Arizona Educational Association, Teach for America, the ASU bureaucracy and most administrative organizations.

Parents who choose Christian schooling, online education, charters, secular private schools and home schooling should be particularly alarmed because these DID candidates are instinctively opposed to expanding school choice.

These chameleon candidates have been emboldened by the passage of a $3 Billion tax hike; also known as Proposition 100. Their plan is to cross the tax hike threshold by planting DIDs in a few heavily Republican districts.  Voters will be fooled into thinking they are voting for a fiscally Republican conservative, but they aren’t, and by the time they’d find out who these candidates really are – the damages will have already been done. The Arizona Republic and Citizens for Tax Justice (www.CTJ.org) claimed that Arizonans want to pay higher taxes, but the elected representatives in the legislature weren’t listening. So, this is their plan to implore candidates to vote for higher taxes for public education.

Their website (www.ExpectMoreArizona.org) says nothing about better education, just higher taxes. In fact here is a snipit from a “blogger” on their  ”Expect More Blog” by a supposed small buisiness owner:

“As a small business owner I believe we, the taxpayers of Arizona, should invest heavily in our public education system.  In fact, I am willing to step up and pay more in personal and business taxes so that we can hire the best teachers, build modern infrastructure and attract the most innovative and brilliant leaders…”

If successful, this group will turn the Arizona Legislature into a tax hike playground.  Most of the DIDs are teachers and school board members who are registered as Republicans but carry the platform of the teachers union and the Democratic Party. Make no mistake, these are NOT TRUE REPUBLICANS!

The Vote 4 Education DIDs generally file their petition signatures close to the deadline, and are running as traditionally funded candidates. Most have had no prior visible involvement in Republican Party politics and many are unknown to local Republican activists. Contrary to Conservative Republican views, they are proud supporters of government run education.  Many of these fake Republicans have endorsements from the infrastructure spending lobby, and have received significant PAC donations after the campaign finance filing deadlines so as to delay full disclosure to potential voters.

Take, for example, Heather Carter, Clinical Associate Professor at Arizona State University in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College and now Republican House candidate in Legislative District 7 that touts she is registered Republican since 1988 and is a “A REPUBLICAN EDUCATOR WHO IS PRO BUSINESS” on her website.  Carter has stated she was for Prop 100, against tax limiting Prop 13 Arizona, and for more taxpayer money for schools.  She talks about balancing the state budget and fiscal responsibility, but no where can we see that she is about lowering taxes. More taxpayer funds (meaning increased taxes) and pro-business are two phrases that just don’t go hand-in-hand on a Republican ticket. She claims to have more than $20,000 in PAC donations and has teachers and union members working on her campaign, going door to door on her behalf.

Carter is currently involved with Teach for America in the education department at ASU.  She is closely linked with the education lobby. Her website shows endorsements from the Arizona Education Association teachers union, the Professional Firefighters of Arizona PAC, and the big government advocates at the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Craig Barton, former Professor at Ottawa University and University of Phoenix and now Republican House candidate in LD 7, is also a Vote 4 Education supporter.  Barton operates charter schools which depend on tax revenue to operate.  If elected, Barton will be able to vote more money to his and other charter schools.  Barton says he supports Prop 100 yet signed Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform (www.ATR.org) pledge not to raise taxes.

Note: LD7 Heather Carter and LD6′s David Braswell have teamed up for a fundraiser sponsored by the teacher’s union, on 22 July.   This needs to be exposed.  Quickly.  Voters need to know what they stand for, and who they really are.

Legislative Districts 6, 8, 10, 11, 21 and 22 all have known DIDs running for legislative seats.  The following candidates should be heavily scrutinized before the primary elections as all of them are suspected DID’s. Each one can potentially hold up a conservative reform agenda; not just educational reform, but tax and budget cuts.

  • David Braswell, LD6 Senate
  • Karen Fann, LD1 House
  • Venessa Whitener, LD21 House
  • Paul Howell, LD22 House
  • Steve Urie, LD22 House
  • Wade McLean, LD26 House
  • Doug Sposito, LD30 House

The Arizona Education Association claims 81% of its members believe the State Legislature is the biggest obstacle to achieving success in our schools.  All they need is more of your hard earned money. They say the legislature is standing in the way of their “success”. If you vote for one of their candidates you are moving us one step closer to a 2/3 majority in the legislature required to raise your taxes. Vote 4 Education is nothing more than a Vote 4 Higher Taxes plain and simple, and these candidates are aware of this. They are fooling the Arizona public into thinking that they are fiscal Republicans only because they know they would have no chance at winning an election as a Democrat in these districts. Do not be fooled. Please spread the word.

Grassroots Interviews with LD 6 Senate candidate Dave Braswell

Last night on GrassrootsInterviews.com, I interviewed LD 6 Senate candidate Dave Braswell.  He weathered one of my tougher interviews with a lot of aplomb. He’s one of two Senate candidates hoping to be nominated in the August 24 Republican primary. I wish him luck!

HORNE TAKES CAMPAIGN TO THE AIR, BLASTS THOMAS’S RECKLESS TERM IN PUBLIC OFFICE

Press release

For immediate releaseRepublican Attorney General candidate Tom Horne is taking his message directly to voters to remind them that Andrew Thomas’s tenure as County Attorney was marked by failed prosecutions of political rivals, the threat of disbarment and a criminal probe by the F.B.I.

”Andrew Thomas was a disaster as County Attorney and taking his failed act statewide would be an even larger disaster for all of Arizona,” Horne said.  “A judge wrote that one of Thomas’s acts as County Attorney had ’the appearance of evil’, the Yavapai County Attorney – a fellow Republican - refused to pursue a politically-motivated case sent to her by Thomas because it was, in her words:  ’a threat to the entire criminal justice system’, and Thomas – without a shred of evidence – accused a respected judge of bribery.  He is reckless, out-of-control and he cannot be allowed anywhere near the office of Attorney General where he would wreak more legal havoc on Arizona.  These TV spots will remind voters they cannot entrust reckless Andrew Thomas with public office. ”

Tom Horne has 30 years courtroom experience, has been a judge pro-tem, special assistant attorney general and has written a legal textbook.  He has fought for constitutional principles by litigating the Flores English language learner case, which saved Arizona taxpayers $300 million. He has ensured that the voter-approved ban on bi-lingual education in the classroom is vigorously enforced, and is a supporter of both SB 1070 and the Arizona Cattle Growers’ Association Restore Our Border Security Plan.

Has proven history as a leader

Endorsed by numerous conservative organizations

Phoenix, Arizona. July 19, 2010. The Patriot Caucus, a project of LibertyFirst PAC has announced the full endorsement of David Schweikert in the primary to defeat incumbent and liberal Democrat Congressman Harry Mitchell in Arizona’s 5th Congressional District. The caucus is a conservative-minded political action committee of tea party organizers, activists and bloggers dedicated to the ideals of the tea party movement (including lower taxes, limited government, strong national defense, strong positions on illegal immigration, energy independence and family values).

“David Schweikert has a proven history as a leader in the state legislature and as County Treasurer; and he is strong believer in securing our border against illegal immigration and that cutting taxes is fundamental in growing the economy. His long service to Arizona is hard to come by and his vast experience in both the private and public sectors proves that he is without a doubt the most qualified and capable candidate to beat incumbent Democrat Harry Mitchell,” said Keith Sipmann, Chair of the PAC. “David Schweikert has been endorsed in the past by the National Border Patrol Council, Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, Arizona Right to Life and he has received the endorsement of the National Rifle Association with an “A” rating for his solid support of Second Amendment rights. And now we are proud to join the various groups and organizations that stand behind David and his campaign.”
Supporting the right candidate in this years election could mean significant real life changes to many Arizona voters. We recognized that fact and want to help direct some of the focus into a carefully chosen slate of races that we believe we can have a significant impact in. Please join us in our support for David Schweikert for Arizona’s 5th Congressional District by visiting http://www.david10.com.

Sarah Palin Endorses Dr. Paul Gosar for Congress

“Paul stands firmly behind Governor Jan Brewer’s
efforts to protect Arizonans”

(Prescott, Arizona)  Today, Governor Sarah Palin endorsed Dr. Paul Gosar for Congress. Dr. Paul Gosar is running in the Republican Primary Election in Arizona’s First Congressional District.

In announcing here endorsement of Facebook, Governor Sarah Palin stated:

“I’m also proud to endorse Dr. Paul Gosar for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District. Thankfully, Paul shares our belief that the federal government’s reckless spending is putting us on a dangerous path towards insolvency – and he’s determined to do something about that. In addition to being a proud family man, Paul is a dentist, and as a small business owner running his practice, Paul understands the challenges confronting job creators when DC stifles us with endless mandates, over-regulation, plans to impose new energy taxes, and just generally (and unnecessarily) overreaches into the private sector. The good doctor knows that true job creation comes from the private sector, not government; and he will work to rein in the fed’s long arm and get our economy moving again by getting government out of the way.

Paul stands firmly behind Governor Jan Brewer’s efforts to protect Arizonans, and the rest of us for that matter, by securing the border. He’s endorsed by three of Arizona’s leading sheriffs because they know America needs Dr. Paul Gosar to hold Washington accountable on this imperative national security issue.

Paul is a bold man! He deserves our support, so please join me in helping him help this great country. You can visit his website at www.gosarforcongress.com and follow him on Facebook and Twitter.”

“I am very honored to have received the endorsement and support of Governor Sarah Palin,” said Dr. Paul Gosar. “I ask that Republican voters join her in supporting my campaign and together we will take back Congress.”

Dr. Paul Gosar is a small businessman who knows how to create and protect jobs. He is a dentist and health care provider who has garnered many awards and honors, such as the Arizona Dental Association’s “Dentist of the Year,” and was inducted into the Arizona Dental Association’s Hall of Fame.  He served as the President of both the Northern Arizona Dental Society and the Arizona Dental Association. He also served as the Vice-Chair of the ADA Council on Governmental Affairs.

Dr. Gosar is a 25 year active resident of Flagstaff where he has been married to Maude for 22 years. They have three children.

Grassroots Interviews with CD 3 candidate LeAnn Hull

My interview with LeAnn Hull was one of my earliest.  My apologies, the set-up and sound quality are poor.  The interview was not broadcast initially because LeAnn wanted it to be recorded rather than broadcast live.  After many travails, we finally got the video on ustream.  I’ve been attempting to put my entire archive on Sonoran Alliance and I’m playing catch-up.  I wanted to put this interview up now because I think it’s important for voters to know that LeAnn is pro-”choice.”  Three sources have confirmed this.  There are two pro-abort candidates in the CD 3 race.  The other pro-abort candidate is Paulina Morris who threw a $5 qualifying contribution party for Brewer.

LeAnn is passionate and I’d almost go as far as saying emotional.  I admire someone who is passionate on top of being logical, but I have to take issue with LeAnn’s pro-abort stance and I have to state that when she said she opposes amnesty, her explanation sounded an awful lot like amnesty to me.  Her website states, on the issue of illegal immigration, “[t]here must be standards set and a process for these people and their families to legally stay and become productive and contributing citizens.”  I believe the McCains and LeAnn Hulls of the world have a different definition of amnesty than conservatives have.  They think that if an illegal has to pay a fine or jumps through a couple of hoops, then it’s not amnesty.  I think I’m on solid ground when I say anti-illegal immigration activists believe that there should be NO path to citizenship for anyone who has crossed the border illegally.

Grassroots Interviews with LD 6 House candidate David Fitzgerald

Last night on Grassroots Interviews, I interviewed Legislative District Six House candidate David Fitzgerald.  He’s running with Rep. Carl Seel and Lori Klein (Senate candidate) as a group.  There are seven candidates in the LD 6 House race and I think any voter would be very hard pressed to find a candidate more conservative than Mr. Fitzgerald.

Sen. David Braswell is scheduled to come on the show Tuesday, July 20.  Steve Kaiser, running for the House in LD 6, will be on the show Wednesday, August 4.  Carl Seel is on the show Friday, August 6, and Lori Klein is on Friday, August 20.

TRUTHOUT: Is Jim Ward lying to get elected?

A m e r i c a n  P o s t – G a z e t t e

Distributed by C O M M O N  S E N S E , in Arizona

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Let’s look at the truth of this statement he has plastered across his website:

“The Wall Street Journal and Fox News called me a ‘true anti-establishment outsider’”

Jim Ward moved into the state from San Francisco a year ago. He approached Arizona Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen last year for his advice on what Congressional district he should move into in order to run for office. He settled on Arizona’s District 5. Since moving here, he has tried to portray himself as an outsider. He is correct about that, having lived in San Francisco for so long, he is unfamiliar with the needs of constituents in District 5.

But he goes further. His website prominently features Wall Street Journal and Fox News logos asserting that both news organizations called him “a true anti-establishment outsider.”

Did they?

Read the articles. The Wall Street Journal article doesn’t hardly mention him – there is only a photo of him along with several other Congressional candidates across the country, with the caption, “Outsiders.”  It never refers to him as “anti-establishment.” And unlike Ward, the other candidates featured have actually LIVED in their districts for years.

The article is hardly an endorsement, but more of an analytical look at a certain kind of candidate running for office this year.

The Fox News article isn’t even linked to from his website.

“Anti-establishment” implies that a candidate is not part of a powerful party machine. But Ward has made every effort to align himself with John McCain since moving to Arizona. Their campaigns appear to be coordinating together putting up signs, attending meetings, and their talking points on illegal immigration (using amnesty language while denying they support amnesty) are virtually the same. He also spends upwards of $100,000 a month on message handlers and consultants who are registered lobbyists.

What we have here is a candidate who is desperately trying to hide the fact that he 1) recently moved to Arizona for the purpose of running for Congress, and 2) who has already gotten in with the Washington establishment. Someone who has attached themselves to Washington insiders before even getting into office, and then lies about it to disguise it, has proven himself untrustworthy from the start.
