Press Release: HORNE CRITICAL OF FEDERAL JUDGE’S S.B. 1070 DECISION.
ALSO CRITICIZES FEDERAL BORDER POLICY IN VIDEO RELEASE OF BORDER VISIT.
Republican Attorney General candidate Tom Horne says today’s S.B. 1070 ruling by judge Susan Bolton is a blow to Arizona’s effort to control the border with Mexico.
“I am committed to S.B. 1070 and I find this ruling disappointing,” Horne said. “S.B. 1070 essentially mirrors federal immigration law, which is in not being vigilantly enforced by the U.S. government. I have personally seen the multiple failures of federal immigration policy on my visits to the border, and there appears to be little stomach on the part of the Obama administration to actually deal with this crisis in a meaningful way. That is why S.B. 1070 is so valuable in adding local law enforcement as a force multiplier for the border agents and why this decision should be appealed all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary.”
Horne’s statement came as he released video of his recent trip to the U.S. – Mexico border where he saw first-hand the challenges faced by border-area residents who are on the front line of the illegal immigration crisis.
“I visited with ranchers and cattle growers who told me the current federal border policy is failing,” Horne said. “I drove more than 20 miles of the fence between Naco and the San Pedro River. I was accompanied by a local rancher and was not given an official tour to ensure I could see things without being given a show by the federal government. As I drove along the border fence, it was more than 20 minutes until I saw a Border Patrol vehicle – an unacceptably long amount of time. My vehicle was shadowed for a period of time by a truck on the Mexican side , which I was told belonged to scouts for the Mexican drug cartels. These cartels know when U.S. agents have a shift change, they probe the weak points along the border, and they know how many U.S. agents are stationed at any given time. They are well-funded and sophisticated. Arizona law enforcement needs every tool available to battles these cartels and to apprehend all illegal crossers. We need at least 3,000 more agents at the border, not just the 1,200 the Obama administration is sending. We need forward operating bases every 12 miles, we need double fencing along the entire border, not just a select few areas, and we need to give local law enforcement more tools to apprehend illegal crossers. I support S.B. 1070, and I endorse the Arizona Cattle Growers’ Association Restore Our Border Security plan, which would create a much safer climate for U.S. citizens who live at or near the border.”

Sheriff Richie Mack has sold out to a RINO
It was with deep disappointment that I read the following letter forwarded to me from my colleagues in the RTKBA community .
I hope our readers will share this with United We Stand for Americans; the good patriots in the 912 Project; and the Campaign for Liberty. Share via FB with those who have scraped their dimes and nickels together to pay Sheriff Mack’s speaking fee. You’ve been sold out.
Konopnicki simply want a “prop” or “trophy wife” to showcase to voters that he really is a “Constitutional Conservative” and is spending mega-bucks to prove it. But his actions speak louder than words so he needed “street cred” … and bought some. What follows is how someone betrays his cause, his friends, and those who have trusted him.
Sheriff Mack … there is no explanation for this betrayal to a politician who only wishes to use you to get what he wants.
From: Richard Mack
Subject: my appologies, but
Date: Tuesday, July 27, 2010Dear friends:
I have some news for you that is weighing heavy on me, but I must go with my heart andwhat I feel is best. I have decided to support Bill Konopnicki for State Senate. Please allowme to explain my decision. I have known Bill for a very long time, perhaps 35 maybe 40 years. He has been a good friend and a good friend of my parents.I know Bill to be a good husband and father. Because of this relationship I’ve been strugglingwith my decision as to who to support in this race. I know Sylvia is a good person, also.
Then yesterday Bill asked to meet with me in his office. He was most eager to hear more about my victory at the U S Supreme Court and how the ruling might benefit Arizona in its present litigation with the federal gov’t. He was very impressed and told me that he would make certain that the Governor and her counsel would receive this vital information. There is no question that my case, based on state sovereignty, will help us all in these trying times of federal intervention and control. Bill took it upon himself to get my info. to the Governor. He showed leadership and dedication; he took the initiative tohelp and to make a difference. Needless to say, I was moved and impressed. On the other hand, Sylvia has not called me or asked me to help in the least. She and I were asked to speak at an event in Globe together and she declined the invitation. Now, I think I have seen a difference and it has moved me to support Bill Konopnicki.
I am asking for your understanding and assure you that this decision has been a matter of prayer and deep contemplation. My wife and I discussed it in great detail, also. I will always fight for freedom and try with all my might to restore the Constitution as the law of this great land. I will never shrink from this quest.
Respectfully,
Sheriff Richard Mack (Ret)

Penny Kotterman – Parent!

I was chatting with a Penny Kotterman supporter the other day about their candidate’s campaign signs. I was mocking, in a good natured way, the fact Kotterman’s signs list “Parent” as her #1 qualification for Superintendent of Public Instruction. I commented that it hardly seemed like a selling point worth top billing, given that almost everyone has kids at some point, with some parents obviously doing a better job of it than others.
“Don’t you get it? Penny is a parent,” the Kotterman supporter explained, with emphasis on the word “parent” as if I might not be getting the point. Which I wasn’t.
“Um, and that’s a selling point?”
“Because… her opponent…is not a parent.”
I’m guessing my face showed I was still a bit puzzled about what the point was. So the Kotterman supporter explained.
“Penny’s opponent is not a parent…Penny’s opponent is gay.”
My eyebrows lifted. Comprehension dawned on me. What had seemed like a random choice of wording for a campaign sign had turned out to have a grand strategy behind it.
“Who said Republicans are the only ones who can talk in code?” the Kotterman supporter asked rhetorically with a smile.
Kotterman’s supporter went on to explain that a candidate being gay wasn’t an issue, but that some general election voters might think it is, so Kotterman was just going to stress what she is: Parent! (And apparently this involves a bit of of whispering about her opponent being gay.)
I was a bit flat footed and didn’t have a good reply. I think I was just surprised at how I had missed something in plain sight. Penny is a parent! Not like the gay guy! Yep, a pretty clever marketing strategy, in an underhanded sort of way.
There are a few things thought that I wish I would have said at the time.
I wish I would have taken issue with the suggestion that Republicans are a party that talks in code. Ok, maybe Republicans use to be such a party. Back in the civil rights era, Republicans who talked about “states rights” sometimes were really just dissing the idea of protecting the rights of African-Americans. But that was a long time ago. And, as I’m sure RNC Chairman Michael Steele would explain, racism absolutely isn’t what the modern Republican Party is about.
For the most part, Republicans today don’t talk in code. In fact, we usually lack any kind of subtly whatsoever. If a Republican candidate has something to say about their opponent, it’s usually going to be printed in very large all-caps letters across the top of their campaign mailer. “THE OTHER GUY IS A LIBERAL WHO WANTS TO RAISE TAXES AND KICKS THEIR DOG!”
Republicans don’t talk in code…because we don’t have too. Our ideas are generally popular with the electorate. That’s why Republicans will put the words “Conservative” on their campaign signs. When was the last time a Democratic candidate put “Liberal” on their sign?
Democrats though have had to get good at talking in code as a matter of political survival. So it’s no surprise that, having become dependent on talking in code in general, Democrat candidates know how to turn that skill on each other to win primaries.
Back to Kotterman… if she wants voters to know her opponent is gay and that she isn’t, that’s her prerogative. It’s a free country, free speech, yada yada yada. This strategy will probably win Kotterman some votes in the fast-growing Hispanic community, which polls show tend to be pretty traditional in their views on family life and not so supportive of same-sex couples. It’s probably good politics going into a general election too.
It would be better though if Kotterman were not just straight, but also straight-forward. If she views her opponent’s homosexuality is a deal breaker for an education position, she should just say so. If she thinks gay-is-ok but that voters are unenlightened Neanderthals, and that therefore a gay man shouldn’t be the Democratic nominee, she should have the courage to say so publicly in plain language and not just on coded campaign signs and though whisper campaigns.
I also wish I would have had the presence of mine at the time to say that I don’t think a candidate’s sexual orientation should matter. This doesn’t mean I think much of Kotterman’s opponent, because I don’t. His liberal policy positions are just as bad as Kotterman’s. (I’m a conservative and would vote for the Republican nominee regardless.) I just don’t like the idea of disqualifying candidates from consideration because of their race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. It strikes me as un-American.
Postscript -
Kotterman shows a remarkable degree of message discipline. I’m looking at page after page on her website, and the first sentence of regular text on nearly every page says something to the effect of “Penny is a parent…” or “As a parent, Penny…”

Nullify Judge Bolton, Enforce Arizona Law!
Can’t put it any other way.
Ignore her. What can she do about it? Make her and her ruling irrelevant in Arizona.
Its about time to tell the fed where to go. People 3,000 miles away making decisions for us?
This judge just set up the Obama / Mexico lawsuit; a lawsuit with no standing in any Arizona court.
This is Arizona. Love it or leave it.
Governor Brewer, tell the judge to take a hike and use an Executive Order to put the law in place. We’ll support you!
If you support persons here illegally, then please move with them to New Mexico or California and leave Arizona. 460,000 illegal aliens is 459,999 more than we care to support.
The undocumented individual I know worked at over $18/hr taking a job away from a legal citizen and received a federal tax refund of over $4,200 last year – did you?

Crump for Congress Announces Pearce Endorsement
Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce has announced his endorsement of Sam Crump, Republican candidate for Congress in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District. Senator Pearce has gained international attention as the author of Arizona’s SB1070, which gives local law enforcement the ability to inquire about an individual’s legal status in this country.
Sam Crump said he was honored to be recognized as one of the leading conservatives by Senator Pearce, who he served with in the Arizona House of Representatives. “Senator Pearce has long been the leading voice on illegal immigration in Arizona. Now he is the leading voice in the United States,” said Crump.
“I am honored to have the endorsement of Senator Pearce,” Crump said. “He is one of the most decent people I know in politics, or anywhere for that matter.”
Sam Crump is in a crowded primary race for the 3rd Congressional District seat. There are ten candidates seeking the nomination on August 24th and Crump has garnered attention as the leading grassroots conservative and Tea Party candidate.
