RESOLUTION
Concerning the Maricopa County Attorney 2010 Republican Primary Election
Whereas, Bill Montgomery has a proven record of prosecutorial success at the County Level, and
Whereas, Republican Candidate Bill Montgomery has vowed to vigorously prosecute those arrested under SB1070, and
Whereas, Bill Montgomery commands the respect of all agencies to which he must interact as County Attorney including Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the Board of Supervisors, and
Whereas, Interim Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley has endorsed numerous Democrat Party Candidates for office, even when in direct violation of Maricopa County Republican by-laws (e.g. 2002 Democrat Candidate for Secretary of State Chris Cummiskey, 2008 Democrat Candidate for Maricopa County Attorney Tim Nelson, and 2008 Democrat Candidate for Maricopa County Sheriff Dan Saban), and
Whereas, Rick Romley has abandoned his lawful responsibilities as County Attorney and refused to prosecute illegal immigrants under Arizona’s human smuggling law, which has a 94% prosecution success rate under former County Attorney Andrew Thomas, and
Whereas, just today, Rick Romley pulled $700,000 of funding for Employer-Sanctions enforcement from the County Sheriff’s office further obstructing efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute perpetrators of identity theft, the gateway crime of illegal immigrants, and
Whereas, Rick Romley in his previous 16 year career as County Attorney failed to aggressively defend Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, resulting in millions of dollars in losses to Maricopa County in civil judgments, and
Whereas, the second of three Republican candidates and Chandler Mayor, Boyd Dunn has no prosecutorial experience whatsoever, and
Whereas, Mayor Dunn has traveled to Washington, D.C. as recently as 2008 to defend Comprehensive Immigration Reform, and
Whereas, Mayor Dunn has prohibited Chandler Police from inquiring about the immigration status of someone arrested for a misdemeanor offense, enforcing a de facto Sanctuary City Policy,
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Executive Guidance Council of the Maricopa County Republican Committee endorses Bill Montgomery for Maricopa County Attorney in the upcoming Primary Election to be held on August 24, 2010.

“Whereas, Rick Romley in his previous 16 year career as County Attorney failed to aggressively defend Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, resulting in millions of dollars in losses to Maricopa County in civil judgments,”
When are you people going to open your eyes and realize that RINO Joe is an incompetent boob? An aggressive defense of this fool would have wasted more money on attorneys’ fees, besides what the County already paid out in settlements.
“Interim Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley has endorsed numerous Democrat Party Candidates for office”
Come on. RINO Joe endorsed Big Sis for Governor in 2002, made a commercial for her, betrayed the Republican Party to six years out of the Governor’s chair, and betrayed Arizona to Big Sis’s liberal policies, including spending the State into bankruptcy.
This is a joke.
And no I have no intention of voting for Romley. I’m for Montgomery, but not becuase of anything RINO Joe has done or said.
“Whereas, Bill Montgomery commands the respect of all agencies to [sic] which he must interact as County Attorney including Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the Board of Supervisors”
How soon we forget. If BM commanded the respect of the Board of Supervisors, he would have been appointed interim county attorney, but he wasn’t.
Perhaps because they know BM’s not trustworthy as his comment about Sheriff Joe’s mental capacity showed. An honest person doesn’t say one thing to the public and something different in private.
JJ, honest people DO say one thing to the public and then do different things in private.
No, you don’t look fat. Excuse me. God bless you. Pardon me. Nice tan. You’re not crazy. Thank you.
Those are all lies honest people tell. And dishonest people says the same things.
Whatever this EBC committee is they are fine with me in supporting Bill Montgomery. Though they are awfully officious with all that whereas and whats whats.
LOL! Like the average voter even knows or cares what the “Executive Guidance Committee” is!
Honestly, when have you ever heard someone say “I’m voting for candidate XYZ because he is endorsed by the Executive Guidance Committee!”?
Rob Haney, Lyle Tuttle, and Tom Husband attempting to be kingmakers. Small men, with small minds, trying to do big things.
They are hypocrites and liars.
Joe was all over Nappy, was a huge supporter of a PETA supported proposition that took away private property rights, and has endorsed pro-choice candidates.
He is no conservative.
This “resolution” is a bunch of hooey that no one outside of a very few will ever see or care about but it makes those 3 all puffed up with pride.
Whereas, the leadership of the EGC is a group of hatemongering, power-hungry liars who cannot even support a decent man in a decent way, no one with any integrity will pay attention to this.
Bill Montgomery should not think this was about him. A simple look at the word count will tell you that this was only about who these men hate and not about who they endorse.
Endorsements by Joe or EGC don’t mean anything to me. I heard Mr. Montgomery speak and did some research on him. He has a very impressive resume, West Point Grad, Iraq War Veteran, and successful prosecutor.
I believe he will, better than any other, defend Arizona’s laws, which is what matters most.
So far Romley has spent his time kissing up to the Stupidvisors and telling us he will not enforce the most popular laws on illegal immigration this state has ever passed. Romley support the continued exploitation of a cheap, illegal workforce to continue enriching the business elite at the expense of legal workers. His day is long past.
It’s clear Montgomery has a lot more integrity and will support the laws enacted the Legislature and supported by voters. That’s the job. Enforce the laws!
Bill Montgomery is the one to fill the job. Everywhere he has been, he shows integrity and intelligence. I know Bill and he has all the qualifications for County Attorney. After his 16 years in the job, I can’t say the same for Rick Romley. He is too far to the left.
Montgomery has my vote.
The EGC thinks we are a bunch of idiots and refuses to let the process happen as it was designed. Their endorsement is rather insulting, the choice is up to the people. Who they are supposed to back, will be clear after the midterm elections when WE tell them.
I find it rather ironic that they used a democratic process to stifle another democratic process.
@Roger, when has Romley ever said he would do anything less than enforcing all the laws?
Remember when we Republicans were the least likely to fall into the traps of people’s propoganda? Well, I am so sick and tired of watching my party fall victim to all this nonsense.
Does everyone not realize that $3 million+ has been spend raiding businesses and the only result is 1, YES, just 1 case! Arpaio should have his funds pulled, he is wasting our money. Arpaio is ALL circus and NO results. Remember, when we were fiscal?
I do not know what is happening to our party, but if people do not open their eyes soon, there will be nothing left to who we once were… Honest.
Gee Ann
Are EGC members evil because they support Thomas, Apraio and Montgomery?
Or what most of us know i.e. they defeated you in your two attempts to take over the state party and solidify it for McCain and the Open Borders profiteers!
To clarify, only one case brought resulting in sanctions on the business. A business that I might add was already going under.
Also, let’s do some math here… What is it, like 1,000 illegals come over the border everyday? Okay, so times that each year = 365,000. Now, let’s take the last 4 years = 1,460,000 illegals. There has only been something like 1,300 convictions for being here illegally. ONLY 1,300! With all that circus show and money spent, that is all. That was out of 300,000 cases!!! If he worked for me, I would have fired him!
Maybe I come from a different generation, but none of this is acceptable. I will proudly vote for Romley, who cares what the EGC says… it is our choice, not theirs.
AZ29 – it’s obvious from you posts that your head is so far up that dark place you can’t even hear. Romley doesn’t support SB1070 and he also said publicly he will not enforce the human smuggler law. He was booed a an LD8 meeting for making those statements. He just recently announced he was taking away the $700,000 the legislature intended to go to help the Sheriff with enforcement. By the way, is he gets elected by some freak of politics, he will not get that money in his next appropriation. It will be given directly to the Sheriff.
He was appointed by a corrupt board of supervisors to support their unethical behavior and undo the progress made in illegal immigration enforcement. So far he has been doing just that.
@Roger – Please, please show me where he does not support SB1070! You have fallen victim to propoganda my friend. Romely said he will enforce ANY case that comes across his desk, but guess what SB1070 made it a MISDEMEANOR to be here illeally, READ THE BILL. Misdemeanors do not go to county and he will not be dealing with them, that is why he wants to do more and go after the FELONS, the cartels, the murders, close the border, etc. Read his information AGAIN and you will find that he will enforce SB1070, but the law has tied his hands in that department because it is a midemeanor now, BUT NO ONE WANTS TO TALK ABOIUT THAT FACT!
Romley pulled Arpaio’s funding because there have been NO real results, show me where there are results in raids. $3.4 million on raids and on ONLY 1 case that has been brought for any sanctions? You think that is okay? That is in no way a conservative value sir.
Romley wants to put the responsibility of enforcing LALA back on the county attorney’s office, just like all 15 other county offices in the state. Romley wants to work with ALL 26 law enforcement agencies in the county and not give full power to only 1. People booed him because they can’t see the truth anymore amongst all the lies, the facts need to get out there that Romley is actually going to do something.
Please read a bit more on how SB1070 has officially tied our hands with convicting people, it will open your eyes that it has made it worse and harder to convict. Those are the facts and I understand how difficult they are to see in this atmosphere. Real Republicans support Romley!
Romley is owned by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. And if you have already forgotten, there remains active criminal investigations against Stapley and Wilcox. Let me get this straight: So we taxpayers get to pay them for having their feelings hurt by Arpaio and Thomas and then we find out they were actually guilty of crimes. But don’t miss the point. Even if the targets of Arpaio’s and Thomas’ wrath are pure as the driven snow, the mechanism set up by the Board to funnel taxpayer dollars into the pockets of Stapley, Wilcox and others who work for the taxpayers is a total sham.
Who is protecting the taxpayers of Maricopa County in all this? Where is the County Attorney? Where is the State Attorney General? Where is the State Supreme Court? The Supervisors are imposing a new system of adjudicating claims against the County, Arpaio and Thomas which is not found in our State Constitution or statutes. Why did Max Wilson, Andy Kunasek and Fulton Brock vote for this abomination? What’s in it for them?
Mole:
I would sugggest that a look at the contributers lists to the past campaigns of Messers Wilson, Kunasek and Brock will give you a pretty good bead on the reason they’re on the Stapely team!
Roger:
If the legislature had intended the money to go to the sheriff’s office, it would have given him that money directly in the first place. They didn’t do that; they gave it to the county attorneys to prosecute employers. Only one employer was prosecuted. If Arpaio can’t get the job done, then that money shouldn’t go to him.
And what exactly are you complaining about anyway? Arpaio said that taking away that money wouldn’t change anything. If he’s not going to miss the money, then everyone is just making a mountain out of a molehill. Arpaio can continue going after the low hanging fruit and serious law enforcement officers can take on the more challenging task of fighting employers and their high powered attorneys.
Romley called for a veto of SB1070 and has released a memo to police chiefs telling them 1070 can’t be enforced. That’s the real truth, not the BS Romley is trying to say. Also, Romley said he took the money from the Sheriff to enforce the Employer Sanctions law himself. But wait! He stated that he would not raid businesses and wanted businesses to regulate themselves. So, where does the $700,000 go? The EGC simply did what they needed t do: let Republicans in Maricopa County know who the real Republican in this race is and encourage support. I didn’t need the resolution to know Montgomery is the best man for the job but it helps let everyone else know.
And Romley also announced that he would not enforce the human smuggling laws!
Considering who supports Rick within the GOP and the contracts that the coyotes have with certain businesses in the valley, one can understand why!
And Rick has been on a Democrat candidate endorsement kick since leaving office!
Does he have the interest of the tax paying, law abiding middle classes at heart?
You decide on August 25th!
Carlist – make sure you vote on August 24th. The 25th is reserved for people voting for Romley.
Friends,
We have Rick Romley on one side: a known and outspoken opponent of SB1070, one of the most widely supported pieces of legislation ever to be passed, a known supporter of several prominent Democrats, and finally, the lapdog of our under-investigation-for-multiple crimes Board of Supervisors:
On the other side we have Bill Montgomery: an ethical, honest, hard-working, dependable, reputable, not-under-investigation, steadfast Republican who WILL support ALL OF OUR LAWS!
Now folks, who do you think should be given the extremely important job as our County Attorney?
Now…don’t take too long in thinking about this! Seriously, the appointment of Rick Romley is entirely in keeping with the attitude of our Board of Supervisors-THEY DON”T CARE WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT OR DESIRE!! And neither does Rick Romley! If he cannot support SB1070, then he does not deserve one vote for County Attorney!
Without any doubt, there is only one desirable candidate for our next County Attorney: Bill Montgomery. Let’s give him our support, our donations, and most importantly: our votes!!
Are we talking about the same Montgomery who said Arpaio belongs in a nursing home? Or the Montgomery that has only been an attorney for 8 years?
AZ29 – nice try. Joe supports Montgomery so enough said about trying to create division where it does not exist. Also, Montgomery has more experience in running for County Attorney than Romley did when he first ran for Cuonty Attorney – and where is Romley’s experience serving us now?
