Abramoff Released From Prison; close ties to Hayworth linger in the minds of voters

Today Jack Abramoff, perhaps the epitome’ of DC corruption and partner to power hungry politicos, was released to a half-way house until December.  If his release will bring about a resurgence of the voter anger expressed after the greatest campaign finance scandal to hit DC, that ultimately ended the lack-luster career of JD Hayworth and diminish his current hopes, is yet to be seen. There is no doubt, the names Abramoff and Hayworth will be linked in the minds of voters for years to come.

This cannot be a good week for Team Hayworth, with reports his campaign is losing steam and this ugly little reminder of just how low some people will go.  You would think after the whole Abramoff “thing”, taking a closer look at folks would have been a good idea.  But, then…I guess some people never learn.

Arizona Sheriffs Continue to Go for Gosar.  Sheriff Babeu Endorsement Announced.

Flagstaff, AZ. June 9, 2010:  Support within the law enforcement community continues to grow for Dr. Paul Gosar, CD1 Republican primary frontrunner.  Today the Gosar for Congress campaign is proud to announce that Dr. Gosar has received the endorsement of Pinal County Sheriff, Paul Babeu.  Sheriff Babeu has made national headlines in the last year for being an outspoken advocate for combating illegal immigration and securing Arizona’s southern border.

Paul Babeu was elected Sheriff of Pinal County in 2008 and is the chief law enforcement officer for the Nation’s fastest growing county. No stranger to service, Sheriff Babeu is a Major in the Arizona National Guard having served a tour in Iraq as well as sixteen months deployed in Arizona Operation Jump Start, serving on Arizona’s southern border.  Babeu also served as Commander of Task Force Yuma where he oversaw over 700 soldiers responsible for direct support of the US Border Patrol in securing the Arizona/Mexico border. As Commander, Babeu achieved and maintained the highest reduction of illegal entries into the U.S. Illegal crossings in 2006 crested at 134,000 and today only 7,500.  The Yuma Sector is the model of success with over 95% reduction of illegal crossings.  These same successful measures of deploying soldiers to the border, building the double barrier fence and ending catch and release must be implemented immediately.

Babeu, who joins Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and former Coconino County Sheriff Joe Richards in supporting Dr. Gosar, had this to say about his endorsement, “Dr. Gosar and I have had the opportunity to speak on many occasion regarding the struggles and challenges that both Arizona and the U.S. face today.  He believes as I do that Washington has lost touch with the American people, especially when it comes to illegal immigration. I have spent most of my life serving others and have seen the value in honest representation.  Whether it’s his background as a healthcare provider or as a small businessman, I believe Dr. Gosar understands the value of customer service and, in my opinion, will serve rural Arizona well as its next Congressman.  I am proud to give my full support to Dr. Gosar.”

Dr. Gosar had this to say about Sheriff Babeu’s endorsement, “It has been a pleasure getting to know the Sheriff over the last year.  Our conversations regarding the important issues facing Pinal County as well as those effecting Arizona have been extremely informative.  Sheriff Babeu is a true American hero with an unwavering character and an unmatched wealth of knowledge. His support of my candidacy is deeply humbling.”

Dr. Gosar,  a 25 year resident of Flagstaff, father of three, sports and hunting enthusiast has been traveling all over Congressional District One for the past several months and has enjoyed meeting with supporters who share his belief that his background, and his experience in rural Arizona’s way of life, make him the GOP favorite to unseat Kirkpatrick.

Gosar also has been endorsed by the American Dental Political Action Committee, Pinal County Supervisor Bryan Martyn, and NRA past President and former Arizona Attorney General Bob Corbin to name a few.  He is an Arizona’s former “Dentist of the Year”, who has practiced general dentistry in Flagstaff for more than 25 years.
