Sandra Day O’Connor: Arizona must show it is NOT bigoted after passing 1070

Sandra Day O’Connor yucked it up with former Clinton flak George Stephanapoulos on ABC’s Good Morning America today.  Though she refused to answer Stephanapoulos’ direct questions about whether she would have voted for SB 1070 or whether it was constitutional, she left little doubt what she thought:

“SB 1070 has been enacted, and I think what we have to look at now is, what does Arizona do now? How do we put a good step forward to show that Arizona is not as a whole, a biased state. And that we appreciate and respect the Hispanic population in our state very much.”

Maybe Justice O’Connor can use her elite Stanford Law School education to educate us on how we might possibly prove a negative–that we are NOT a bigoted state.  And why in the world do we have to apologize essentially for passing this law?  There is nothing bigoted about it–as Russell Pearce says, illegal alien is not a race.

  1. Obey the laws, you’ll have no problem.

It’s hard not to look like a biased state when the POTUS Obama is intoning his bigoted concerns, his Attorney General is intoning it COULD be UNCONSTITUIONAL, the Department of Homeland Security stenoriously BELIEVES it to be profiling, the LOS Suns are PRAISED for telling everyone they BELIEVE they are standing up and shooting hoops against bigotry, the media lavishes copious airtime to trot out polticians and big names who choke on emotion to tell EVERYONE who’ll tune in they BELIEVE AZ is full of bigots and fascist police … the STATE Department is sobbing into China’s skirts about how MEAN AZ is … huh? The STATE DEPARTMENT … whinging to CHINA!!?!

How about WHINGING about BURMA and NOrth Korea???? HOW do TWO unbelieveably brutal and repressive regimes that don’t allow their nations to produce ANYTHING manage to stay in power for decades? Look at a night satellite photo of North Korea. ONE lightbulb on – at Kim Il JUng’s house.

SOuth Korea could invade and take over North Korea in 48 hours flat, most of which would be simple driving time. SO WHY NOT?

China China China China. In exchange for arms and funding, the illegal Myanmar Burmese regime allows China to build and maintain forward listening posts to track ALL Indian military activities. CHina has ALREADY once invaded India and stolen off a chunk of Indian territory, they are NOT best buddies. Now North Korea is provoking South Korea. Anyone ask CHINA, which doesn’t let Kim Il Jung blow his nose without permission, what they are up to?

Nooo. It’s MEAN old ARIZONA! Gonna ASK people for visas, work permits and residency cards. Waaaaah!

We are being played for fools in more than one way.

Republican after Republican thinks that this law is seriously flawed:

Sandra Day O’Connor and now today this op-ed by Connie Mack of Florida (no RINO):

Are you all that out of touch?

And by the say, I would bet you money that Sandra Day O’Connor has read that law…and I bet Connie Mack has too.

Have you ever heard the term: BananaRepublican?

These people, RINO or not have extensive ties to those who make big bucks via illegal immigration!

Republican after Republican thinks that this law is seriously flawed:
    ……

Worthless statement. You can say that and be 100% correct, technically, because it is also 100% true that “Republican after Republican thinks this law is COnstitutional and is long overdue.”

I actually saw Sandra Day O’Conner speak in person last year. SHe was a great speaker, liked her a lot, but she said some things that were NOT TRUE, because the people who had made arrangements to have her speak hadn’t told her the truth about those circumstances. There were good reasons she had for trusting the organizers, but I knew from what she was saying that they’d misled her.

So, I know for a FACT that even a Supreme Court justice’s opinion is only as good as the veracity of the inputs he or she gets.

SO waving around an infallability card by virtue of someone’s old position to make one’s case isn’t valid.

  6. wanumba says:

It’s a pathetic situation to have to remind everyone that our legal system is based on the express presumption of “innocent until proven guilty.”

The President of the United States and his administration and his political party, are dangerously upending that basic foundation by his attempt to accuse, try and convict Arizona as a state and its citizens in the court of public opinion.

This is closer to the result of lynching – justice meted out by an ill-informed mob who are sure they are right without any evidence or investigation, just emotional appeals to accept conclusions derived from raw bigotry than any conclusion of actual justice.

“So, I know for a FACT that even a Supreme Court justice’s opinion is only as good as the veracity of the inputs he or she gets.”

This is the lamest excuse I have ever heard in my life. You can’t be serious. You are suggesting that Sandra Day O’Connor is told what to say????

What a total joke. I have met her. She is a leader.

I stand by what I said. Your little law has run afoul of even your claimed party.

. You are suggesting that Sandra Day O’Connor is told what to say????
    …..

No. Where do I say that? Or suggest it?

I said she was misled. I didn’t say anything about anyone telling her what to say, and after listening to her story and her speech, I’d say she wouldn’t take kindly to that sort of behavior.

I noticed that the whole reason Democrat Stephanopoulos, a CLinton man had HER on his show was to tease some comments out of “Supreme Court Justice” that could be used by the media and Open Borders agitators to beat Republicans over the head with stretchy logic that *IF* a retired Supreme COurt Justice THINKS the SB1070 MIGHT gives the impression of bigotry *THEN* it’s patently unConstitutional.

More proof that SB1070 is being tried in the court of PUBLIC OPINION, because there’s MORE chance to undermine it with mobs and fear than in an actual court of law.

  9. wanumba says:

It was Liberal Left Progressives, card-carrying Democrats who weren’t on the up and up with her, BTW.

    Sort like George Stephanopoulos.

  10. What an asinine statement from Sandy. Law school should have taught her that everyone – including the State of Arizona – is innocent until proven guilty. For her to say that Arizona has to prove that it is not biased instead of demanding that the detractors of 1070 must prove that it is biased goes to her judicial incompetence and leftist philosophy.

SDO, Soutar, Stevens, Warren, and the list goes on demonstrates the incompetence of Republican Presidents in appointing SCOTUS members.

  11. OMG! That was an unique POV. I am not sure I agree.

  12. OMG. That was an one sided POV. I am sure I agree.
