“Barely Passing” John McCain – “Graduated fifth from the bottom of my class”

While Team McCain “spins” a JD Hayworth quote out of context, I thought it would be equally important to have John McCain reveal his intellectual capacity in his own words.

Many people do not know that John McCain graduated 894th out of a class of 899 at the US Naval Academy! Here are two vids showing John McCain at his finest. We’ll call this “barely passing.”

Maybe John McCain would be interested in disclosing his transcripts from his Naval Academy days.

  1. James Howell says:

Really? The man graduates from a school 99% of Americans could not get into and you use this against him? Who cares where he graduated. He had the mental toughness to not drop out; something I bet most poeple reading this could not do. McCain gave up 4 years of drinking beer and partying at ASU to serve his county. Would you have done the same? I wouldn’t. Come on guys, are you that desperate?

  2. No McCain says:

The desperation comes from the McCain camp.

  3. LD17 says:

Read much? “Faith Of My Fathers.” He mentions this several times. Very old, very stale, and very stupid post.

  4. Carlist says:

    A dose of reality James!

As the cousin of one Annapolis grad and an uncle of two West Point alumni I can assure you that our military academies are not M.I.T. level institutions.

While they certainly prize intellect, other factors are worked in e.g. the sons of past graduates, athletes, and political patronage. Thus reality has determined that they are NOT the top 1% or even 10& of academcially gifted high school graduates!

John was the son and grandson of former admirals, therefore one can assume that neptotism played as big a part as intellectual depth in his selection.

His post graduate history entailing the destruction of a carrier’s flight deck and successful mission accomplishment also seems to reinforce the reason for his class standing.

One might say that McCain-Feingold legislation and the abortive Kennedy-McCain illegal alien amnesty endeavor provided the ‘iceing’ for the achievement cake.

The man is both tired and inept. Frankly we deserve more than the second rate cynical manipulation and manistream media agenda ‘suck up’ operations which he’s inflicted upon us for the past 28 years!

So let’s help trim the “Stupid” wing of the “One Rotten Bird” which currently passes for our national political establishment!

  5. wanumba says:

Just an aside. The problem with the academies is that they program every minute – four years of someone else telling you what to do doesn’t prepare one for real life, or critically, the reality of how to deal with inevidable chaos and SNAFUs that goes with war and military operations.
So, despite rigorous academics, PT, busy busy schedules, it’s too easy to graduate unequipped to think outside the “box,” that is outside a classroom, despite the image.
Um, McCain isn’t exactly displaying the positive attributes out of it, though.

  6. Kyl says:

The fact is that John McCain’s takeoffs don’t equal is landings.

    Brilliant find and brilliant post!

I would also like to see John McCain’s transcripts and tax return too!

  7. Jane 001 says:

    Video no. 2 was hysterical!

    John McCain 2010:
    Comedian-yes
    Senator-no

  8. Arizona Ranger says:

    Friends,
After reviewing the lower (or second) interview clip, it is OBVIOUS that McCain is: a) developing dementia and cannot forget what he said or even read the Teleprompter, b) highly egotistical, c) unconcerned about what the CITIZENS need or want, d) guilty of the pandering and “flip-flopping” on subjects to meet whatever is the current problem to address.
McCain, or more appropriately McLame, is a war veteran had the unfortunate problem of getting captured. Well, that does not qualify him to do anything but sit in a cell and ponder life. This antiquarian needs and will soon have that specific chance to resume his contemplation of life as his senility takes over and he is left “looking over the garden” as the rest of try to correct his many, many politically driven legacies. As the man who CHAMPIONED Amnesty, we are now facing this issue “in the face”.
Let’s all hope that John can finally do the right thing and vote down ANY attempt at amnesty. C’mon John, do the right thing for once in your career!

  9. DSW says:

According to JD’s bio, “JD graduated cum laude from North Carolina State University in 1980, with a double major in Political Science and Speech-Communication. He attended N.C. State on a football scholarship, and served as Student Body President his senior year.”

I’d say that is far from the bottom of the class!

  10. Joe says:

I don’t think JD would have been capable of graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy. Political Science and Speech Communications? Those majors rate right up there with Liberal Studies and Underwater Basket Weaving. That isn’t engineering. The fact is John McCain GRADUATED from the Naval Academy at a time when there requirements were mathematics, science, government, history, English literature, and a heavy emphasis on engineering for all midshipmen. You are right. The U.S. Naval Academy is very different than North Carolina State University.
This post shows just how desperate JD’s campaign has become.

  11. DSW says:

I bet John McCain could not derive the quadratic equation to save his life!

  12. Her? says:

Ok… well, NCSU’s website (http://www.ncsu.edu/policies/academic_affairs/pols_regs/REG205.00.1.php) lists cum laude as between 3.25 and 3.499 GPA. Those benchmarks probably haven’t changed much since 1980. That’s good, but certainly no sign of an exceptional student.

Rather than focusing on McCain’s standing in his very small academy class, I’d be more interested in knowing his GPA. I’d wager that, on the whole, the averages for Naval Academy students was considerably higher than those at most public universities, NCSU included.

  13. The destruction of the flight deck mentioned above ocurred when the missile from another plane struck near McCain’s plane. McCain did not cause the fire. How you graduate hardly matters. It’s amazing to me that the JD Hayworth fans could be so anti-military when their candidate has been such a solid supporter of the military.

Why isn’t Representative Hayworth running away with this race? Why is there even competition? Shouldn’t Arizona voters be stampeding to support him if he is so conservative?

The voting record is eerily reminescent of John McCain’s in many areas, and a single issue candidate isn’t showing much breadth. Un-Constitutional votes like No Child and the Patriot Act, and promising to run for two terms, then running for seven, are probably where you look for those answers.

  14. Old F-4 Guy says:

I went to the Navel Academy and graduated in 1955. There were two ways in. One, like mine, was to have high academic scores in high school with outstanding extra curricular activities. The other was VIP appointments. I still needed my State senator to petition a recommendation to be safe. McCain did NOT get in because of his academics. He got in because of his politics.

Also graduating is more surviving the attrition the rigorous physical program imposed. None of the classes were that difficult. If you survived, you graduated.

  15. I’m not going to bother discussing the academics of various universities, as I am a tech school guy with degrees in mechanical engineering and virtual reality programming. Clearly not as demanding a program as politics or media.

But to me it’s inconceivable that a towering intellectual such as Representative Hayworth could actually make the statement that the United States “…never declared war on the Nazis…”

Forget about college, shouldn’t he have known about this by the FOURTH OR FIFTH GRADE? Combined with his statements that “Henry Ford was right” and that people could marry horses in Massachusetts, this guy seems to be a little slow on the uptake to me.

Folks, the “Maverick” should be put to pasture, and the “Inconsistent Conservative” ain’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, among other problems.

We should be putting our support behind candidates that are everyday citizens, businessmen, veterans and Constitutional Conservatives. One such candidate is Jim Deakin.

  16. Roger says:

Deakin is a fool with no chance of winning. All he can do is make it harder to get rid of McLame. Conservatives will remember his actions and make sure he can’t even get elected dog catcher. Like it or not he will be forced to go back to Grendel.

  17. Yeah, right. says:

    Humph.

JD loves Henry Ford- which part of ol’ Henry?

The man who pushed the Protocols of Zion?

The man who had his goons beat up commie workers?

How about it? JD wants to kick some butt, right?

After all, we never declared war, we just did it, right?

At this rate, I am willing to vote for the Libertarian Party candidate- if there is one. This is ridiculous.

McCain should have retired gracefully, and someone smarter than JD should have become our next Senator.

Someone like our President of the Senate- someone with brains and the ability to function in a legislature.

This race is now at the level of farce.

  18. JC says:

Sen. McCain has talked openly and honestly about being at the bottom of his class in college. Old news. Debating who was Student Body President and not in college really is bush league. Sorry, but it is. McCain was our nominee for President. If his class standing was really a big deal, don’t you think legitimate opponants in the Romney/Giuliani and even Obama would have made a fuss about it? No, because its silly to bring up.

  19. Bill says:

Another great post, Shane! Every time I think I’m going to give up this cesspool for good, your nutso ramblings bring me back in.

I’m praying you get the chief of staff job for JD if he wins.

  20. VSB says:

JD Hayworth has a political science degree from university but he clearly didn’t know that the US formally declared war on Germany in 1941? Come on, that is just plain crazy! Especially given the fact that JD was in Congress for 14 years and voted on war power related resolutions on numerous occasions! How the heck could he not know that!?

  21. Horst Kraus says:

    Bill,
Me believes he already got that job. Winning was not prerequisite.
    Other talents were.

  22. Roger, I think what you meant to say was, “REPUBLICANS will remember his actions”. GOP and Conservative are not terms that automatically mean the same thing. If Deakin stands no chance of winning, then why should anybody care if he is in the race? This race should be a slam dunk for Representative Hayworth and his “conservative”(oops, I mean REPUBLICAN) credentials. In fact, it’s not, because it’s obvious he’s just a red herring tossed out by the GOP to throw the Tea Party and independent conservatives off the track. Whether it’s Senator McCain or Representative Hayworth, GOP business as usual remains the same in Arizona. Team politics. Fixing the country isn’t important, beating Democrats is.

  23. Roger says:

No Michael, I meant conservatives. Some republicans will and are supporting him. I almost did until I found out what he is really about. He could steal just enough votes in the primary to help McLame. That will eliminate any future support.

Fixing the Country is important. To do that you must first beat the Democrats. McCain is a Democrat. I don’t care how he is registered. Deakin needs to drop out now and support that goal.

  24. Stephen Kohut says:

    Roger,

We have a process for that. It’s called a primary election. As much as JD supporters say Jim should drop out because he can’t win, McCain supporters can take the exact same position regarding JD. We need to let the process work the way it’s supposed to and on 8/24 we’ll know the voters’ decision.

  25. And again I say, if Representative Hayworth actually offers a significant difference to Senator McCain in the public eye, a small fish like Deakin shouldn’t matter enough to make a difference. Rep. Hayworth and his campaign strategists need to stop making excuses for his inability to catch Senator McCain by blaming Deakin for their problems. Hayworth has money and recognition. This should be an easy run for him. His campaign should concentrate on issues and strategy, not attacking insignificant outsiders. It makes him look weak, and the logic doesn’t hold together anyway. If Deakin’s not important, how can he be blamed? The race shouldn’t even be close. Focus on differentiating your candidate from Senator McCain. Attacks from the campaign of a big time GOP insider on an average citizen do nothing to help Representative Hayworth’s image in the public eye. It only reinforces the notion of politics as usual.

  26. haz2happen says:

Guess what buddy John McCain jumped to the top of his class when he held it together as POW. Talk all you want about his politics but lay off the guys military career.

  27. elroy says:

Wow is this all you got? Bill gates was a drop out so I guess he’s an idiot. JD is dumb b/c he keeps sticking his own foot in his mouth.

  28. kelly says:

This is hysterical. Do you know how hard it is to get into let alone graduate the Naval academy. I’ll take the worst that institution has to offer over most undergrade degrees in the country.

  29. Smith says:

McCain has made up a lot of ground. JD seems to be going backwards. My husband did not get the best grades, actually, probably ranked about where McCain did and he happens to be beyond successful now. The problem with JD is that he talks a big game and has no substance to back it up with. His history has left us with many facts that paint the entire picture of how unethically unintelligent he really is.

  30. Stephen Kohut says:

    Smith,

You do remember Charles Keating, Lincoln Savings and McCain’s hand in Charlie’s money, don’t you?

  31. AZJack says:

You bet I remember Charles Keating, Lincoln Savings and McLames hand in Charlie’s money.

  32. Stephen Kohut says:

It seems that selective amnesia is a characterstc of McCainiacs. They can say Abramhof loud and clear but can’t remember Keating. They don’t remember that John was against the fence before he was for it. Funny, isn’t it?
