Very gubernatorial Jan, very gubernatorial. Maybe fixing Arizona’s image means we need to start at the top?
So Governor Brewer has all of her facts straight? Brewer is waiving her fingers around like she’s reenacting a Hitler speech. What kind of leader is she?
Governor Brewer, how about you listen to what the mother has to say. A leader who only sensors people with whom they represent is no leader at all.
How sad is that?
This is a pathetic view of the state from our supposed LEADER…
Unhinged and ballistic are a bit much, no? I was expecting something more crazy than what I just saw, which was mild condescension, if anything.
And, seriously, Hitler? I’m so glad we live in a political climate where someone who talks with their hands is instantly compared to a megolomaniac, genocidal villain of humanity if their viewpoint is different than yours.
Like the tax increase or hate it, just stop the Hitler comparisons. If it’s not fair about the immigration law, it surely is out of bounds for this video.
OK I wouldnt call it unhinged… but if she and the other elected republicans were not so spineless…. http://ow.ly/1Lk5X then we wouldnt be discussing this joke right now
Quite frankly I was ready to support her after she stood up and took a lot of heat for signing SB 1070, but after watching this video I she has lost my support again.
Isn’t that headline a little over the top? Or maybe a lot?
Because she is passionate and believes in what she says? Because she knows the truth about educational funding and doesn’t repeat the rhetoric of others? That lady was all too friendly with her, touchy feely and all…so if Gov. Brewer waived her finger at her, it was after they had been hugging and made it clear there was not a personal space issue.
Good for Gov. Brewer for having the courage of her convictions and not pandering to the crowd! She is a vibrant person, full of energy and enthusiasm…a lesson the “boys” in the race could learn.
This is nothing. I saw her at a candidate forum about a month and a half ago. She went absolutely berserk after one of the other candidates spoke, forget which one. Never seen anything like it.
I agree with catsclaw. I was supporting her after SB 1070 and the ethnic studies bill, but this IS NOT A 1 cent sales tax, and it WILL NOT be temporary.
The problem is not the Governor’s enthusiasm. She was animated but I don’t think really disrespectful, given the way the encounter started. So I do not in any way question her good faith. Nor do I doubt the Governor truly believes she is doing what’s right for Arizona. Belief, however, is not fact.
The problem is the Governor is misinformed on the effect of the tax increase. It is not sound thinking to suppose that a tax increase in the midst of a deep recession will create jobs on a net basis. It is also not sound thinking to say that the lady’s children will be deprived of an education without the tax increase. The tax increase will strike the poor and the elderly disproportionately and is not defensible on that basis as well.
Last, No-Mac has it right. It will not be temporary. Before anyone writes back it will go into the Constitution as limited to three years, once the state gets addicted to the money, we will hear the same arguments three years from now to extend it.
I agree with Ann. The headline is misleading. It’s clear that the governor is friends with this woman (or thinks she is). She’s passionate about her position and tells the woman she thinks she has her facts wrong. There’s nothing wrong with that at all.
It seems to me that the woman put the governor in this position, having her child run the camera while she unknowingly got a picture with Brewer while flashing her “no on 100″ sign and then refusing to answer Brewer’s question to find the source of the woman’s information.
I agree that the “mom of three” took advantage of the governor. She wouldn’t have written the message on her hand if it wasn’t her intent to get it on camera somehow.
The Governor handled it the way anyone would who is confronted. Given the mixed signals, I choose to give the Governor the benefit of the doubt in this instance.
The level of ignorance is appalling.
We would not be in this situation if we had not permanently cut taxes during the boom. Anyone thinking this tax increase was a good idea is also dumb.
We should have temporarily cut taxes, and recognized that when that housing crack boom was over, we would need steady revenues to fill the gap left by all of that construction of now empty homes.
We tried to have a decent rainy day fund, and JaNo used it to get outta town, but now the R’s absolutely refuse to see the problem with totally stupid tax cuts that they are unwilling to reverse.
This fiscal crisis will not end until we overhaul the tax system, and go back to the 2002 budget- WITH 2002 TAX RATES.
Simplistic fools like the lady with the writing on her hand are good for sound bites, and nothing more. If you can convince Jan Brewer, who has been around politics in Arizona forever that you need a tax increase, you need a tax increase.
More useful idiots leading to disaster. Real financial disaster.
I don’t feel one ounce of remorse for that woman. How rude and disrespectful to walk up to a governor under the pretense that you are a fan or supporter only to do it as a goof and write a disparaging remark on your hand.
How embarrassing our party has become where we openly mock our elected leaders.
Brewer should have smacked her in the face.
The funniest part is when she tries to run and hide because Brewer puts her in her place and points out she doesn’t know the facts.
This video also shows how desperate the 3 other candidates have become. They have to secretly video this stuff to try and find material to throw at her.
Brewer showed no class. She is an elected official and she is acting like a harpy.
The fact of the matter is that there ARE other places to cut spending. How about starting with financial assistance to ILLEGALS in Arizona. Stop the free health care, rent subsidies, free education, etc… Adding another tax is NOT the answer. I don’t see many political figures saying, sure I can live on $75,000 a year when most Arizonans are strugling to pay bills and keep thier heads above water!
Well, I was debating over voting for Prop 100 but your video convinced me to vote for it. I don’t know what your website is supposed to be about, but I do know what the Governor is about. She has better sense than any of you. Yes on 100.
thanks for this good article. It helped me alot.
