Brewer Capitulates to Goddard in Preview of General Election Contest

Democrat President Harry Truman is reported to have once said, “Give the people a choice between a Republican and a Republican and they will vote for the Republican every time.”

That was then, this is now.

Accidental Governor Jan Brewer’s sales tax increase compulsion has rewritten that sentiment, “Give the people a choice between a Democrat and a Democrat and they will vote for the Democrat every time.”

What a disgrace.

GODDARD STANDS WITH TEACHERS

Having Killed Irresponsible Corporate Tax Giveaways, Attorney General Supports Prop 100 For Schools

Phoenix – Today Attorney General Terry Goddard stood with teachers to support the temporary sales tax increase, Prop. 100. His support came after Governor Jan Brewer finally heeded Goddard’s call to reject a massive corporate tax giveaway which would have been detrimental to Arizona’s economy, costing Arizona taxpayers up to $950 million per year. Today Brewer said that there was “no way” she would “do the business tax cuts.”

In March, Goddard sent Governor Brewer a letter calling on her to promise to veto the fiscally irresponsible measure.  ”The corporate tax giveaways that were proposed were always the wrong thing to do for our state-and thankfully we stopped them,” said Goddard.

Now that the corporate tax giveaways are off the table, Goddard announced his support for Prop. 100.  ”Prop 100 is not the long term solution that we need, but we cannot balance the budget on the backs of our children.”

In contrast to the current approach taken at the Capitol, Goddard has promised an administration that will put aside political labels, and bring together leaders of all parties in order to find solutions to Arizona’s budget problems.

Former Congressman Tancredo Endorses Sam Crump

Border Hawk Tancredo praises Crump’s proven track record

Phoenix, AZ, May 12, 2010 – Former Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) has endorsed Sam Crump in his campaign to represent Arizona’s Third Congressional District.

Tancredo served 10 years in the U.S. Congress, where he became a leading advocate for securing the country’s borders and working tirelessly to fight illegal immigration.  Tancredo is considered a leading conservative voice upholding the principles of Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater, and he compiled an impressive 99 rating from the American Conservative Union.

In his endorsement of Crump, Tancredo said “I heartily endorse Sam Crump for the U.S. Congress and urge every voter who cares about the issues of border security, national security, and fighting illegal immigration, to stand with Sam and cast your vote for him in the Republican Primary on August 24th.”  Tancredo added “Sam has the experience and a proven track record of fighting for those ideals and the people who make our country great, and those qualities distinguish him from the rest of the field.”

Crump thanked Tancredo for his endorsement and commented “It is an honor to gain the support of a true patriot like Tom Tancredo.  He understands the dangers posed by illegal immigration and spoke on this matter long before most others had.  I look forward to continuing to fight to secure our borders and defend our nation when I am elected to Congress.”

Sam Crump is a U.S. Army veteran and a founding partner in the law firm of Boates & Crump.  He was the charter President of the Rotary Club of Anthem and founded an orphanage in Uganda.  He is also a member of the American Legion.

While serving in the Arizona House of Representatives, Crump was an original co-sponsor of S.B. 1070.

Phoenix Law Enforcement Association Endorses Andrew Thomas for Attorney General

PHOENIX LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES ENDORSEMENT OF ANDREW THOMAS FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL

PHOENIX, ARIZONA. MAY 12, 2010. Phoenix Law Enforcement Association (PLEA) announced their endorsement of Andrew Thomas forArizona Attorney General in a statement today.  PLEA is the organization representing the officers of the largest law enforcement agency in Arizona.

“Andrew Thomas was a a strong partner to all of our officers while working as Maricopa County Attorney and we are greatly looking forward to this partnership carrying on once at the state level,” said Mark Spencer, President of PLEA. “We need someone who is tough on crime and does not back down but instead stands up for what is just.”  PLEA represents more than 2500 sworn officers of the Phoenix Police Department.
Thomas has also been endorsed by other notable Arizona law enforcement leaders including Mohave County Attorney Matthew Smith, Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.  Arizona Right to Life endorsed Thomas last month as well.
During Thomas’ time in office, crime rates plummeted.  The 19 percent drop is more than twice the national rate of decline, in despite of an 11 percent increase in the county’s population during that time.  The illegal immigrant population has dropped by anywhere from 18 percent (Dept. of Homeland Security estimate) to 30 percent (Center for Immigration Studies estimate). Like the fall in crime rates, this dramatic decline in illegal immigration is far greater than the average in the rest of the nation.
Thomas has a track record of successfully defending illegal immigration crackdowns in our courts, including his successful efforts to prosecute illegal immigrants for conspiring to violate the state’s human-smuggling law and to defend Prop 200′s voter ID requirements and the employer-sanctions law, which he defended along with the Attorney General’s Office.
If elected Attorney General Thomas has pledged to expand that office’s prosecutions of illegal immigrants under the state’s human smuggling laws. The office is not currently pursuing such prosecutions.
Thomas is married with four children.  He is a graduate of Harvard Law School.  Prior to serving as Maricopa County Attorney, Thomas served as an assistant attorney general for Arizona, deputy counsel and criminal justice policy advisor to the Governor, special assistant to the Director of the Arizona Department of Corrections, and a deputy county attorney.
