Party-flopping Nunez Re-Registering Hispanic Democrats as Republicans

As an earlier post noted, Somos Republicans supports Eve Nunez for the Senate seat in LD 12. Ostensibly, they say they’re interested in registering Hispanics as Republicans. However, in LD 12, they’ve been walking precincts, visiting hispanic Democrats and asking them to reregister as Republicans. SR is basically trying to stuff the ballot box by having Democrats meddle in Republican politics in LD 12. Eve is an interloper herself. She changes her party registration with the political winds from Republican, to Democrat when Barry Hussein Obama was popular, and back to Republican when it seems the Tea Partiers are ascendant. That’s not something a dedicated Republican does. She’s a RINO and interloper at best. It also reflects a desire to attain office at any cost. That’s the LAST person LD 12 and Arizona need in the state Senate.

LD 12′s Republican and Independent voters should be aware that Somos Republicans and Eve hope that enough Republicans will split their votes between true small government conservative challenger Clark Silver and middle-of-the-road and absentee incumbent John Nelson enough that inattentive voters and reregistered hispanic Democrats will be enough to vault her into office. Those who believe that a lack of adherence to Republican principles lead to electoral defeat in 2006 and 2008 should get behind Clark Silver whole heartedly…otherwise, LD12 will suffer at least two years under a liberal Senator that doesn’t care about Republican principles.

Nelson is little better than Nunez. In 2009, he missed 20% of his votes. So, in 1 out of 5 bills going through the Senate, LD 12 didn’t have a voice. Only Democrats missed more votes than Nelson in `09. Nelson missed important votes like voting on the anti-sanctuary cities bill…TWICE! He’s also consistently receives D’s and F’s from the Goldwater Institute for voting to regulate the economy. Republicans are supposed to believe in the free market. Nelson doesn’t. Voting to place government burdens on an economy during a downturn is foolish at best. His grades from Americans for Prosperity and Pachyderm Coalitionare little better. Weiers and Montenegro both are to the right of Nelson. If the voters in LD 12 want to see real conservative change, it would behoove them to vote for the most conservative candidate.

Beware LD 12 voters. Do your homework. Don’t be fooled by moderates and wolves in sheep’s clothing.

“Rock Solid Conservative” Eric Ulis, has Rocky Political Past

It’s come to light that Eric Ulis, self-appointed “Rock Solid Conservative” (yes folks that’s what his website states), has a political past with the Democratic Party.

Not just with any democratic party, but the liberal parties of Washington State and California.

In 1996, Eric Ulis was the Democratic Nominee, in the 30th District. I’m guessing you would have to be pretty liberal to skate through a democratic primary in Washington State.

Ulis also ran for the California State Assembly in 2002, just a mere 8 years ago. There too, Ulis was the Democratic nominee, running against Republicans on November 5, 2002.

I guess we don’t “vet” our Republicans anymore. I hope the Republicans in LD 8 will take the initiative and look a little deeper.

Raul Grijalva Says “Boycott Arizona”

If Arizona’s economy isn’t bad enough, now our own Raul Grijalva is doing his part to make it even worse.

An Arizona congressman urged businesses on Tuesday to boycott his state if the governor signs into law a bill to make illegal immigration a state offense.

Rep. Raul Grijalva, a Democrat, said businesses need to punish the state if the bill becomes law as a way of making sure no other states follow suit.

Do not do business with the state,” Mr. Grijalva said at a press conference on the Capitol grounds in Washington.

Remember the good old days when economic sanctions were used on our enemies abroad?

Schweikert Finishes Quarter With Highest Cash on Hand

Broad Support Leaves Campaign with Nearly $400,000 Cash on Hand

(Scottsdale, AZ) With broad support across both the district and the state, the Schweikert for Congress campaign finished the first quarter of 2010 with the highest amount of cash on hand of any candidate in the Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District.

Building on an already strong fundraising base, the Schweikert campaign added over 500 new small donors to the campaign. Unlike other candidates in the race, Schweikert’s total does not include substantial general election donations that cannot be used in the primary election.

“We are pleased with the broad-based support we had this quarter from donors all across the state,” said David Schweikert. One of our key goals this quarter was to broaden our fundraising base and tap into voter energy to bring new donors into our campaign. With over 500 new donors, we accomplished that.”

The Schweikert campaign was also placed “on the radar” in the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program today. “I am pleased to see that the NRCC recognizes the vulnerability of Harry Mitchell this fall,” continued Schweikert. “We look forward to working with them in the fall to retake AZ-05.”

With substantial advantages in organization, key conservative endorsements like Arizona Right to Life and Concerned Women for America, along with a significant lead in early polling, the Schweikert for Congress campaign is well-positioned to win the August Republican primary and take on liberal Harry Mitchell in this fall’s General Election.

Goldwater Institute Investigative Reporter Honored with First Amendment Award

PHOENIX – The Valley of the Sun chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists has presented one of its most prestigious honors, the First Amendment Award, to Goldwater Institute Investigative Reporter Mark Flatten.

Mr. Flatten received the award Saturday for his 2009 special investigation, “High Fliers: How Political Insiders Gained an Edge in Sky Harbor Concessions.” The report documented how a federal program intended to recruit minority business concession owners to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has been used to enrich a handful of people with strong political connections.

This is the first known time that Valley of the Sun SPJ has offered the First Amendment Award to a journalist whose work was undertaken on behalf of a non-traditional media outlet.

“I am grateful to SPJ for recognizing that good journalism is not only found in newspapers, television and radio, but also in organizations such as the Goldwater Institute, where we take seriously the responsibility of being an aggressive watchdog on government,” Mr. Flatten said. “Part of the Institute’s mission is to hold public officials accountable for how they wield power and spend taxpayers’ money. To me, that’s not only the most important part of what a journalist does, but also the most fun.”

The First Amendment Award honors outstanding journalism that relies on public records laws to gather information and to tell a compelling story. To complete the investigation for “High Fliers,” Mr. Flatten had to depend almost exclusively on government emails, contracts and other documents collected through public records requests after a directive from the Phoenix City Manager’s Office forbid any city or airport employee from speaking to him about the issue.

“Mark Flatten’s knowledge of Arizona’s public records law is extensive, and he has a proven history of using those records to expose government fraud and abuse,” said Darcy Olsen, president and CEO of the Goldwater Institute. “His reporting illustrates the critical importance of government transparency so voters can scrutinize the actions of public agencies and elected officials. We are proud to have Mark leading our investigative journalism effort.”

Mark Flatten joined the Goldwater Institute in June 2009 to continue his 29-year career as a journalist and as one of Arizona’s most honored investigative reporters. SPJ has previously called attention to Mr. Flatten’s work with a national Sigma Delta Chi award.

The Valley of the Sun SPJ chapter also gave a First Amendment Award to Dennis Wagner, a reporter with The Arizona Republic.

The Goldwater Institute is an independent government watchdog supported by people who are committed to expanding free enterprise and liberty.

Legislative Council and County Attorney agree: Not true that Sanctuary City bill SB1070 would open door to National ID

The Final passage of Senate Bill 1070 will be heard today.  SB1070 is the most comprehensive enforcement bill in the nation, it will remove all “illegal” sanctuary policies that limit or prevent law enforcement from performing their duties, and it will allow law enforcement the discretion to enforce our immigration laws as intended.  Other states are anxious to follow our lead.

Some concerned members of the community believe this legislation with result in a form of national ID.  NO ONE fights any harder for freedom and limited government than Senator Russell Pearce.  To ensure this would not be an unattended consequence of the legislation, Senator Pearce asked Legislative Council and the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office to provide their interpretation.

Both indicated the legislation does not allow for any kind of National ID nor does it expand ID requirements.  A letter is attached from the MCAO answering many of the questions and concerns expressed.  The official legal opinion from the Arizona Legislative Council is also included.

PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATOR AND THE GOVERNOR TO ASK FOR THEIR SUPPORT OF SB1070

ARIZONA LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

(Legal opinion); Second one in attachment.

A.R.S. section 11-1051, subsections B through E essentially empowers state agencies and employees with law enforcement authority to determine the status of illegal aliens, transfer aliens already determined to exist in the United States illegally to federal custody and arrest anyone believed to have engaged in an offense warranting legal removal from the United States. The bill section does not grant authority, either explicitly or implicitly, to detain a person indefinitely.

A.R.S. section 11-1051 states well established legal concept in the context of immigration enforcement; however, there are a few points worth noting. Subsection B allows a law enforcement entity, where reasonable suspicion exists, to presumably detain a suspected illegal alien for the purpose of determining immigration status. This is simply a restatement of the federal law already in place. See Brown v. Texas, 443 U.S. 47 (1979); see also Ramirez v. Webb, 719 F.Supp. 610, 616 (W.D. Mich. 1989) (holding that law enforcement authorities “may detain an individual for a brief period of interrogation here the circumstances create a reasonable suspicion that the individual is engaged in illegal activity. In this case, the relevant illegal activity is that the individual is illegally present in this country.”). There is nothing in this subsection that would permit a law enforcement entity to go beyond this allowance and indefinitely detain someone.

Subsection E provides that a law enforcement officer “may arrest a person if the officer has probable cause to believe that the person has committed any public offense that makes the person removable from the United States.” Again, as with subsection B, this is simply a restatement of the established constitutional protections and does not go so far as to permit indefinite detention. See Atwater v. City of Lago Vista, 532 U.S. 318, 354 (2001) (holding that “[i]f an officer has probable cause to believe that an individual has committed even a very minor criminal offense in his presence, he may, without violating the Fourth Amendment, arrest the offender.”).

Subsection C requires the immediate transfer of an illegal alien to federal custody once state sanctions expire. Subsection D allows a law enforcement agency to transport an illegal alien in the agency’s custody to a federal facility at other points in the process.

Neither subsection authorizes indefinite detention.

The other issue presented in this memorandum focuses on whether A.R.S. section 11-1051 functionally implements the REAL ID Act of 2005 (“RIDA”). The bill would not implement RIDA. RIDA states that “a Federal agency may not accept, for any official purpose, a driver’s license or identification card issued by a State to any person unless the State is meeting the requirements of this section.” Further, RIDA states that the Secretary of Homeland Security “may make grants to a State to assist the State in conforming to the minimum standards set forth in this title.” Other than allowing the Secretary to make grants to assist states in conforming to the minimum standards, it is an all or nothing policy: a state either conforms or it is in violation of the Act.

The fact that A.R.S. section 11-1051 allows for the sending, receiving, maintaining or exchanging of immigration status information with any federal, state or local agency does not in any way invoke the application of RIDA in Arizona. Arizona, If a law enforcement entity did detain a person indefinitely, it would violate federal and constitutional law. There is nothing in A.R.S. section 11-1051 that attempts to override these federally mandated procedural protections.

Pursuant to federal and state law currently in place, could easy exchange information with any federal entity and maintain its “sovereignty” with regard to RIDA.

Finally, A.R.S. section 11-1051 narrowly restricts when a public agent can access status related information. Subsection F states four limiting “official purposes.” If a public agent or bureaucrat cannot demonstrate that he accessed a person’s information pursuant to subsections F’s official purposes, that agent would not find asylum in section 11-1051. This subsection is apparently causing some people confusion, because they are reading the paragraphs as a new requirement for governmental entities to seek information. SB 1070 does not create new mandates to seek information. These paragraphs must be read with the whole subsection. They limit the purposes for which immigration status information may be exchanged.

CONCLUSIONS

A.R.S. section 11-1051 does not allow for the indefinite detention of an individual. A.R.S. section 11-1051 is not a de facto implementation of the REAL ID Act of 2005. A.R.S. section 11-1051 limits access to information to four narrowly constructed official purposes.

SB1070: National IDs for Arizonans?

A controversy seems to have come up among conservatives and pro-liberty activists in Arizona regarding Senator Pearce’s anti-illegal immigration bill, SB1070.

I received this nastygram on my windshield at last Thursday’s big teaparty in Tempe.

So, Naturally, I looked into it.

I found that this amendment had been added to Russell Pearce’s anti-illegal immigration bill, SB1070.

“D.  Nothing in this act shall implement or shall be construed or interpreted to implement or establish the REAL ID act of 2005 (P.L. 109-13, division B; 119 Stat. 302) including the use of a radio frequency identification chip.”

However, I also found that this group, the Arizona Campaign for Liberty, is unconcerned about any REAL ID ramifications and specifically pointed out another  section of the bill: E. E1 and E2, in SB1070, which states:

    E. Except as provided in federal law, officials or agencies of this state and counties, cities, towns and other political subdivisions of this state may not be prohibited or in any way be restricted from sending, receiving or maintaining information relating to the immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual or exchanging that information with any other federal, state or local governmental entity for the following official purposes:

    1. Determining eligibility for any public benefit, service or license provided by any federal, state, local or other political subdivision of this state.

    2. Verifying any claim of residence or domicile if determination of residence or domicile is required under the laws of this state or a judicial order issued pursuant to a civil or criminal proceeding in this state.

Campaign for Liberty asserts that this language

…allows any state agency or political subdivision to hand over to the US Department of Homeland Security any data on any person for any license.

The Campaign for Liberty states it is not against the anti-illegal immigration measures in the bill, just this part of the bill.   The Campaign for Liberty also states that:

…this means that DPS can hand over your CCW data, the Motor Vehicle Division can hand over your drivers license data and Game and Fish can hand over your hunting license data to the US Department of Homeland Security or any federal department or agency.

Does this part of the bill create a national id?  Analysis:

It appears that the Campaign for Liberty is correct, based on the reading of the language of the bill.  There is nothing that prohibits any state agency from “exchanging” any data from any person (legal or illegal) with the US Department of Homeland Security (or any other federal department or agency) when investigating an applicant for any license (or benefit).

It’s pretty clear that “any state agency” includes the agencies (or political subdivisions mentioned above).  It’s pretty clear that any person means any person.  It’s also pretty clear that any license includes drivers or hunting licenses.    “Shall not be prohibited” is a stronger version of “is allowed to”.      Does “any license” also include CCW?  I don’t know.

So does this in itself create a national id?  No.  But after the federal government obtains the information from Arizona state agencies, nothing stops the feds  from integrating it with all the other data they have on you and from the federal government creating a national id database out of it.

It should be noted that the “Revolution” flyer does not appear to be from the Campaign for Liberty, but from this other group.

Personally, I am vehemently opposed to national id efforts of any kind (for any reason) on spiritual grounds.  I also oppose it on historical grounds.  National ids were part of the Clintonista agenda of the early 90s.  Conservatives opposed it at the time on the grounds of internal passports had only ever been used by totalitarian and communist governments.

Ronald Reagan was also against national ids.  http://www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa237.html

I’m really concerned about SB1070.  It is simply not worth risking the liberty and privacy of law abiding Arizonans and handing over their data to the feds.  Why can’t Arizona do what Oklahoma is doing?   Apparently, the very same anti-illegal immigrations efforts are underway in Oklahoma, but the Oklahoma state legislature has figured out a way of doing the same thing without turning over the private data of law abiding Oklahomans to Obama and the US Department of Homeland Security:

 http://axiomamuse.wordpress.com/2010/01/24/mark-lerner-on-the-power-hour-jan-25-from-8-9am-cst/

The arguments that the Campaign for Liberty make are compelling.  If I were a conservative legislator posed with voting on this bill, I’d make sure that I read it first and asked some tough questions about why the privacy of law abiding Arizonans is being sacrificed to Obama (incl. CCW permit info?!?) when Oklahoma has figured out how to do the same thing without sacrificing law abiding Oklahomans’ data.

Here’s another little interesting tidbit……  It appears that our friends to the north are concerned about the same thing in Nevada.  More interesting, it appears like the vote on entering Nevada into the REAL ID program is occurring on the same day(!) that  the Arizona State Legislature is voting on roughly the equivalent in Arizona.

http://gonv.org/blog/2010/04/18/stop-real-id/

http://www.nevadafamilies.org/RealID.htm

Also Gun Owners of America states that once the federal government has your drivers license data, they have enough information to track gun purchases!!!

“Since I need a driver’s license to purchase a gun from a dealer, BATFE would finally have its long-coveted tool to impose gun control on targeted groups — particularly under a liberal anti-gun administration. If you believe in the Second Amendment, please vote against this anti-gun monstrosity.” http://seclists.org/politech/2005/Feb/0016.html

Gun Owners of America clearly is against providing law abiding citizens data to the federal government.

Based on GOA’s assessment above and the fact that the Arizona MVD can voluntarily hand over your drivers license data to the feds (DPS and CCW data too?), could SB1070 inadvertently lead to gun registration?

The risk here is too great.  In our rush to pass strict anti-illegal immigration measures, have we not paid attention to the greater concern?  Protecting our state sovereignity and our individual independence from the federal government?

Not to mention the fact that from the federal side of the fence, they plan on using the SAME SYSTEM to enable AMNESTY!   We can’t have it both ways – to use secure ids to keep illegal aliens out and at the same time use secure ids to let them in!

http://biggovernment.com/capitolconfidential/2010/03/10/national-id-card-being-considered-by-senators/

Does the legislature know what it’s doing?  I’m not sure it does.

Is the fringe “revolution” group who produced the flyer right?  If you take out the personal invectives and just focus on the facts, it looks like they are.

Board of Supervisors betrays Republicans by choosing Goddard staffer Rick Romley to be County Attorney

One day after resigning as Terry Goddard’s lobbyist and special adviser, Rick Romley finds himself appointed county attorney by the allegedly Republican Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.  This is a shameful act of betrayal by the Board of Supervisors, which was required by law to appoint a Republican to replace Andrew Thomas, who is running for Attorney General.  A look at Rick Romley’s actions over the last few years reveal that there is little if anything Republican about Romley other than his party registration.

In 2002 Romley endorsed ultraliberal Chris Cummiskey over Jan Brewer in the Secretary of State race.  Chris Cummiskey had a far left-wing record as a state senator, including votes in favor of partial-birth abortion and against a bill requiring people to show proof of citizenship in order to register to vote.  But there was Romley pushing to put that man a heartbeat away from the Governor’s office.  Perhaps Romley found kinship with Cummiskey because Romley is also pro-choice.

Romley had no record of doing anything on illegal immigration during his 16 years in office.  While Rick Romley sat idle Arizona became the illegal immigration capital of the United States.  Andrew Thomas and Sheriff Arpaio showed that by working hard, persevering, and ignoring apologists for illegal immigration, much could be accomplished at the local level in the battle against illegal immigration.  Yet do-nothing Romley denounced these groundbreaking efforts as “McCarthyism.”

One time Romley did get up in arms about illegal immigration.  That was in 2005 when an Army reservist named Patrick Haab bravely detained seven illegal immigrants and a coyote at a rest stop on Interstate 8.  Various liberals demanded that the county attorney put Haab in prison and throw away the key, but as even liberal columnist E.J. Montini noted, the public sided heavily with Haab.  Andrew Thomas brushed off calls for Haab’s head and refused to prosecute, and was attacked for that by Romley.  Mr. Haab could now face prosecution at the hands of Romley.

Romley continued his record of backing liberal democrats with endorsements of Dan Saban over Sheriff Arpaio and Janet Napolitano’s former legal henchman Tim Nelson over Andrew Thomas.  Nelson is now Terry Goddard’s second in command.  And speaking of Goddard, as noted above Rick Romley just resigned as Goddard’s lobbyist, and has previously called Terry Goddard a man of “unquestioned character.”  Whether Romley campaigns for Goddard this fall or not, as some are speculating, clearly Romley will be of no use to whoever is the Republican gubernatorial nominee, and Goddard may even be able to use Romley as a shield to fend off attacks.

There were other lows in Romley’s county attorney reign of error, like the time a federal jury found him guilty of retaliating against a female employee for complaining about sexual harassment, or Romley’s self-congratulatory “report” that he created and mailed out at great expense as he was leaving office.  But you probably get the idea about Romley’s record.  And now he is indicating that he will review (read: gut) Andrew Thomas’ tough on crime and illegal immigration policies.

Perhaps what is most shameful about the Board’s choice of RINO Rick is that they passed on two highly-qualified, pro-life conservatives, Andrew Pacheco and Bill Montgomery.  Bill Montgomery has said he will run against Romley, but it is not clear what Pacheco’s intentions are.

One thing is clear.  In the August primary we must send Romley back to his job as Terry Goddard’s lobbyist and special adviser.  Legislators, other elected officials, candidates for office, right-to-life must all rally around the conservative candidate, and Bill Montgomery may have a clear shot at Romley.  And we must rally quickly, establish momentum, and stifle Romley’s establishment fundraising machine.

Candidates for office should be asked to demonstrate their conservative credentials by endorsing Bill Montgomery and denouncing Romley, and the Board of Supervisors for choosing him.  The Republican party will always have a big tent, but there is no room for those like Romley who possess not a shred of Republicanism, and we have been successful in driving many of these phonies away.  We must continue that trend by sending Romley back to his buddy Terry Goddard.

Gabrielle Giffords Misleads Her Constituents

Once again, Gabrielle Giffords misled her constituents, this time in her Health Care Reform statement praising the Affordable Health Care for America Act. Her politically biased, one-sided description speaks volumes about her lack of integrity and how she views seniors in her congressional district . . . with cold-hearted loathing.

Giffords stated the Act “will provide security for seniors, guarantee access to health insurance coverage for the uninsured and make health care affordable for the middle class . . .” and  that the Act will “[i]mprove Medicare for 135,000 beneficiaries . . .”  What Giffords did not tell her constituents is 279,833 Arizona seniors will lose their Medicare Advantage coverage because Giffords voted to gut Medicare funding by $500 billion. Giffords cannot gut Medicare and simultaneously improve it.

 2010

Giffords announced a number of “benefits” to health reform:

*  New health care plans and select grandfathered plans will allow 57,000 young people in District 8 to remain on their parents’ insurance policy until their 26th birthday.

Children with pre-existing conditions can no longer be denied health insurance coverage. The law prohibits that practice for new health plans as well as grandfathered group plans.

 *  Children covered by Medicaid or State Children’s Health Insurance Programs cannot be dropped from the plan.

*  Adults covered by State Medicaid programs cannot be dropped from the plan.

What she failed to tell her constituents is the federal government will reduce Medicare reimbursements for hospitals who provide seniors with long-term and inpatient and rehabilitation care. Giffords certainly made her seniors feel more secure. First she eliminates their Medicare Advantage coverage then reduces Medicare reimbursements to hospitals.

 2011

Here are Gifford touted benefits of health care reform in 2011. First, Medicare Part D recipients who fall into the “donut hole” will receive a 50 percent discount on their prescriptions. A new, voluntary insurance plan providing modest cash assistance for long-term in-home or nursing home care becomes available.

Insurance companies will be held accountable for unreasonable rate hikes. The law supports states in requiring that insurance companies submit justification for requested premium increases. Any company with excessive or unjustified premium increases may not be able to participate in new health insurance exchanges.

Employers will start reporting the value of employees’ health care benefits on their W-2s. Community health centers will get increased funding to treat low-income and underserved individuals.

What did Giffords fail to tell her constituents?

 *  Medicare Advantage cuts begin.

 *  Seniors will be means tested and forced to pay higher Medicare Part D premiums.

 *  Medicare reimbursements will be reduced for seniors who use MRI and CT scans begin.

 *  Medicare reimbursements for seniors’ use of ambulances and durable medical equipment will be reduced.

 2012

Giffords noted that nonprofit insurance co-ops will be created to compete with for-profit insurance companies. Physicians, hospitals and payers will be encouraged to band together in “accountable care organizations.”

What did Giffords fail to tell her constituents?

 *  The federal government will cut Medicare reimbursement rates to any hospital with high readmission rates.

 *  The federal government will cut Medicare reimbursement rates for seniors on hospice care.

 *  The federal government will cut Medicare reimbursement rates for seniors on dialysis.

2014

Giffords stopped describing the “benefits” of the Democrat health care reform act at 2012. Do you wonder why? Here’s the reason.

The federal government will establish an Independent Payment Advisory Board with powers to make further, draconian cuts in Medicare reimbursements.

 2015

The federal government will cut Medicare reimbursements for seniors who depend on home health care.

Giffords failed to tell her constituency the truth, the whole unvarnished truth. Giffords has betrayed her senior constituency. She repeatedly failed to inform them of the draconian cuts in reimbursements . . . only in Medicare.

The federal government is not making any cuts in reimbursements for the federal employees’ health plan. Tri-care (for military dependents) reimbursements are not being reduced. Only Medicare reimbursements are being reduced. Only Medicare Advantage health coverage is going to be slashed.

Giffords and her fellow progressive-socialist Democrats  have targeted seniors for health care coverage reduction, health care reimbursement reduction and health care premium increases.

Giffords claims to be a fiscally conservative blue dog but she is just a Pelosi lapdog who willingly and knowingly put a knife in the back of every senior in her congressional district.

Thank you to Congressman Mark Kirk, R-ILL, for his permission to use information from his web site. And good luck to the Congressman as he runs for Barack Obama’s old Senate seat.

Giffords to Get Tough On Border – Demands Extra Cell Towers

As Southern Arizona still deals with the murder of local rancher Rob Krentz, it’s good to see that our elected officials are on the case with real-world solutions to prevent other border residents from being gunned down.

From the Gabby Gifford’s newsletter:

Improving Cell Service Along the Border

In my discussions with the men and women along the border since the tragic murder of Southern Arizona rancher Rob Krentz, the lack of reliable cell phone service has been mentioned repeatedly.  These companies have the technology to make life safer for Arizonans in this rural part of the state.  I took these concerns to Lowell McAdam, president and CEO of Verizon Wireless, and Randall L. Stephenson, CEO and president of AT&T Inc. in letters last Friday.

Both companies brought mobile cell phone towers to a rural region in northern Arizona during the most recent presidential campaign.  As the Washington Post reported in October 2008, this was done to provide coverage that was needed to ensure candidate security.  The border security crisis in Southern Arizona more than justifies the same response.  I will continue to fight for the safety and security of our border communities.

When I called her office for a more detailed explanation, I was told that this will make it easier for ranchers to call for help. I doubt that any amount of cell towers would have helped Mr. Krentz.

Former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas’ Statement on Appointment of Rick Romley

PHOENIX, April 16, 2010. Former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas issued the following statement in regard to today’s appointment of Rick Romley:

“I pledge to Mr. Romley my cooperation and assistance during the transition and hope he will continue to enforce my tough policies on crime and illegal immigration.  I run for Attorney General to make our streets safer and our border secure, and my record shows this can be done.”
Andrew Thomas is currently campaigning for Arizona Attorney General.
Thomas’ office successfully prosecuted the Baseline Killer and Serial Shooting suspects.  He is in favor of the death penalty and has been criticized by defense lawyers for his tough plea bargain policies.  He has tackled tough public corruption cases and led innovative programs to ensure better food safety and cracked down on graffiti and cruelty to animals.
Thomas is a graduate of Harvard Law School.  Prior to serving as Maricopa County Attorney, Thomas served as an Assistant Attorney General for Arizona, Deputy Counsel and Criminal Justice Policy Advisor to the Governor, Special Assistant to the Director of the Arizona Department of Corrections, and as Deputy County Attorney.

During Thomas’ time as Maricopa County Attorney, crime rates plummeted.  The 19 percent drop is more than twice the national rate of decline, and in despite of an 11 percent increase in the county’s population during that time.  The illegal immigrant population has dropped by anywhere from 18 percent (Dept. of Homeland Security estimate) to 30 percent (Center for Immigration Studies estimate).

Like the fall in crime rates, this dramatic decline in illegal immigration is far greater than the average in the rest of the nation.

We need this law

But the Governor has to sign it

There are multiple threats to our state and nation, and among them, is the chaos on the border.

The Federal government has abdicated its responsibility to protect us, which leaves the sovereign states as our line of defense. The Arizona House of Representatives has passed an excellent bill that will allow law enforcement to do its job, but will the Governor sign it? At the moment, Governor Brewer is being bombarded by open border advocates demanding she veto this important legislation. Every citizen who cares about the sanctity of law should contact the Governor, and urge her to sign this bill – SB1070. CALL and TALK to her office, not the switchboard.

bill sign

(STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX) – On Tuesday, the Arizona House of Representatives passed Senator Pearce’s critical Senate bill ensuring enforcement of federal laws against illegal alien, human smuggling and other crimes.

Strict enforcement.  It is time to renew our efforts to end ALL sanctuary policies in our state and our nation: Require officials to fully enforce federal immigration laws of the United States. NO MORE TAXPAYER BENEFITS OF ANY KIND, No Amnesty, No retreat, No surrender.  We will take back America one state at a time.   It starts here!!!!!

My personal background in law enforcement has given me a unique and in-touch perspective with the needs and hazards experienced by rank-and-file police officers and the threats to our citizens. Closing our borders is a must; however it must be coupled with interior enforcement. Attrition by enforcement.”

“I cannot stand by and be a spectator to the death, maiming or damage to another police officer, citizen or taxpayer by an illegal alien because we refuse to enforce our laws and fail to put America and Americans First.”

Simply enforce our laws and you will see less crime, lower taxes, smaller class sizes, shorter lines in our emergency rooms and reduce deaths, murders, maimings, drugs, home invasions, carjackings, kidnappings, protect jobs for Americans, reduced wages, an ultimately save the taxpayer billions of dollars. We cannot afford to “NOT” enforce our laws. Attrition by enforcement

Citizens have a constitutional right to expect the protection of federal laws which prohibit unauthorized activities by non-citizens and are denied equal protection by law enforcement, police departments or magistrates when they fail to enforce those laws.

This bill recognizes the huge cost to Arizona citizens in the cost to our citizens in crime, social services, jobs taken from American and the destruction of the rule of law.

Once the Senate approves the House’s modifications, Senate Bill 1070 will head to the Governor’s office for her signature.

“This essential, straightforward bill reinforces federal law by removing the political handcuffs placed on our law enforcement in protect our neighborhoods and enforcing our laws by empowering state law enforcement with tools it needs to address illegal immigration,”said Sen. Russell Pearce, the bill’s sponsor and a longtime champion of legislation protecting Arizonans against illegal aliens.  This legislation has the support of Arizona Police Association representing over 9,000 police officers, 9 of 15 Sheriff’s, Phoenix law Enforcement Association, Border Patrol Officers, Sheriff Joe, County Attorney Andrew Thomas, the Republican Party, Arizona Highway Patrol, Maricopa Deputies Law Enforcement Association, 80% of Arizona citizens and many more.

Called the “Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act,” this bill secures enforcement of existing federal laws against illegal immigration and unlawful transporting, harboring or hiring of illegal immigrants. It also allows police officers to check a suspected individual’s immigration status given probable cause and to contact ICE or make necessary arrests.

“This legislation stops practices that hurt Arizonans, like sanctuary cities and ‘catch and release policies,’” said Sen. Pearce. “Illegal is illegal.” SB 1070 will not only save Arizona money in the long run but will help keep our state safe, Sen. Pearce added.

The bill’s passage came on the same day that senators and the Arizona Cattlemen’s Association called for stronger security for ranchers and their families living along the border, a need highlighted by the recent murder of rancher Robert Krentz by a suspected illegal immigrant.

“This bill protects Arizonans,” Sen. Pearce said. “It is a much-needed step in the right direction.”

PHOENIX, AZ. April 16, 2010: Former Maricopa County Attorney, Andrew Thomas’ campaign announced today that Arizona Right to Life PAC has endorsed Thomas in the Republican Primary.  Thomas is currently campaigning for Arizona Attorney General.  Thomas and Right to Life are committed to articulating and protecting the right to life of all human beings, born and unborn.

As County Attorney, he has demonstrated a dedication to the protection of innocent human life,” said Walter Opaska, Chair of AZRTL PAC.

David Schweikert: April 15th has been redefined

What had before been a day of dutifully filing your personal tax return has been transformed by the American people into a day of protest against bigger government, higher taxes and runaway spending.

RallyAs costly and cumbersome your compliance with federal tax law is today, imagine what it will be like under the new healthcare takeover passed by Harry Mitchell and the Democrats in Washington. If you own a small business, your taxes will be going up. If you have been successful in your job or business, your taxes are going up. If you purchase prescription drugs, your taxes will be going up. In fact, the list of higher taxes coming down the pike will only get bigger and more cumbersome.

So while our current tax system is nothing more than a complicated mess – under Harry Mitchell and Democrats it will only get worse.

RallyAnd that’s why we must do something about it this November. Like any good liberal, Harry Mitchell and his left-leaning colleagues in Washington are only now getting started. They are pushing a cap and trade bill that will further increase that tax burden on you and your family. In case you have forgotten, they also plan to let the tax cuts passed several years ago expire – another tax increase.

Are we going to sit back and let Harry Mitchell and liberal Democrats tax our country into oblivion to pay for their dramatic expansion of government? Are we going to watch as the money you and your family earn is slowly but surely siphoned off to pay for new government programs?

I know my answer and I think I know your answer – NO!

And that’s why I’m writing today. I need your help.

The voters here in AZ-05 are clearly fed up with Mitchell’s tax hiking agenda and we have a great opportunity to defeat Mitchell in November. But we need your help to do it.

RallyBecause, make no mistake, the liberals are not stupid. They know their policies are unpopular. They know the majority of Americans are opposed to what they are doing. But they don’t care.

They figure that with the support of their liberal labor union buddies and groups like MoveOn.org, they can buy this seat for Mitchell in November.

I’m not going to let them do that. We have taken in thousands of dollars in new donations over the last several months and those donations of $25, $50, and even $100 have allowed us to be in a strong position to beat Mitchell and his liberal agenda.

But we can’t afford to stop. Last election cycle, Mitchell and his liberal cronies spent millions defending Mitchell in this seat and he paid them back for their largess with a yes vote on the healthcare takeover.

We aren’t going to give Mitchell another opportunity to go back to Washington and vote liberal again. That’s why we need your help today.

We can take back the Congressional seat and take back Congress, but to do it we need the support of people like you.

Join us in this fight to defeat Mitchell in November. We need your help more than ever!

David
