Arizona Legislative District 5 Representative and long-time voice for rural Arizona, Bill Konopnicki released the following statement today regarding his intention to run for the State Senate seat in LD 5:

“Over the last several months, I have been approached by constituents, friends and supporters from every part of Legislative District 5 to consider a run for the State Senate seat. I am heartened that so many folks think I am the right choice to represent our district’s diverse needs in the Arizona State Senate.

“From working to solve Arizona’s serious budget problems with a sound businesslike approach, to protecting rural healthcare, to keeping both K-12 and Higher Education funded at necessary levels, and helping local governments deal with the proposed state shift of costs to counties and cities, I have the experience necessary to serve in the State Senate.

“I have lived in the district for over 40 years and know our residents want leaders who aren’t simply followers; they want leaders who will rise above partisanship to do what is best for our state – no matter the political risk. It is time to change the way the Arizona Capitol functions, and I owe it to my constituents to run for the State Senate and begin to make these changes. We need new leadership and new direction, with a special focus on jobs and unemployment in rural Arizona. I can no longer allow misguided ideological decision making to override common sense.

“For these reasons and many others, I am announcing, today, the beginning of my campaign for the State Senate seat in LD 5. I look forward to spending time visiting with the many friends I have in the district and to carrying my message to voters throughout rural Arizona.”

Konopnicki has a history of developing solutions for issues affecting rural Arizona families, ranchers, hospitals, farmers, education and small businesses. He is a business owner, a former educator and community leader who understands the many challenges of the diverse constituency of District 5. These are very difficult times for Arizona and District 5 needs a strong rural voice in the Senate.

  1. Oberserve says:

Here we go. Another RINO (Kopenicki) challinging an INCUMBANT PROVEN CONSERVATIVE Sylvia Allen (NOT Carolyn Allen the lib from LD8).

Sorry, Bill. But conservatives are supporting Senator SYLVIA Allen in LD5.

  2. Diogidog says:

He we go again. The McMachine is in full gear.

Sylvia Allen is the best thing that ever happened to District 5. She has proven that the PC’s did the right thing in the first place by selecting her over a big McFatcat
    RINO.

McKonopnicki’s ego has been crushed ever since his dreams of succeeding Flake were dashed on the sands of the Southern
Border issues. Low wages, poison food, open borders, spend and Tax is all that McKonopnicki knows. He and his Fatcat friends need to remember that this is a Republican Primary. The faithful, hard
core Conservatives come out for the Primary. Done deal, baby!

I’m afraid that McKonopnicki’s chickens have come home to the fryer!

  3. Horst Kraus says:

It is unfortunate when Republicans see the need to denigrate fellow Republican Supporters to “RINOS” just to elevate themselves.
They usually cut their noses to spite their faces.
It is such a waste of energy, isn’t it?

  4. Oberserve says:

    Quatsch!

Facts are facts. Sylvia Allen is a proven factor, a conservative Republican who serves her district well.

Why in the world, Horst, would you support her opponent?

A RINO is a RINO. I know Horst you can’t tell the difference between a RINO and non-RINO.

  5. West Valley GOP says:

I think Horst is talking about Konopnicki, not any of us. After all, Konopnicki has been calling Allen an extremist and the rest of the usual attack verbiage that liberals use.

Or wait, are you thinking that Horst “Tony Bouie’s My Kind Of Republican” Kraus has a double standard?

Wow, that just blew my mind.

  6. Fiscal Conservative says:

Both Sylvia Allen and Bill Konopnicki are untrustworthy RINOs. When Ms. Allen and Mr. Konopnicki were elected they signed a pledge to the voters of Arizona to vote againist any tax increase. This week, both of them broke that pledge when they voted for Gov. Brewer’ tax increase.

Both of them might as well switch parties and become Democrats if they is going to vote to raise taxes and lie to the people of Arizona. We need a true fiscal conservative in this Senate and neither Sylvia Allen and Bill Konopnicki fit the bill.

  7. RINO Hunter says:

Horst? Here’s a question: What do you call someone who registers as a Republican and is elected to office as a Republican yet votes for, supports and conspires with Janet Napolitano and her budget busting ways? Who consistently supports the growth of bigger government and looks for ways to encourage employment of undocumented workers from abroad?

Is that a Republican? Or someone wearing an (R) after their name?

A poser? (and a poser is a fraud)

  8. Oberserve says:

    I will answer for Horst:

    “John McCain”

    :P

  9. Stephen Kohut says:

Sylvia Allen did not vote to pass the sales tax increase referal. She is rated as one of only 3 “champions of the taxpayer” by the AZ chapter of AFP. That is about as far from being a RINO as you can get.

  10. The other Jeff says:

Sen. Allen did nothing more than approve a measure asking the voters if they want a tax increase. She has worked hard to keep our taxes from being raised to pay for the state’s excess. As far as I’m concerned, she has not broken her pledge because she has not raised our taxes. If we vote for the tax increase, then WE have done it to ourselves, not our legislature.

  11. RJ says:

WELLLLLLLL, the Pledge Sylvia and Bill signed said:

    I, ________________________, pledge to the
taxpayers of the _______ District of the
    state of ____________________ and all
the people of this state that
I will oppose and vote against
any and all efforts to increase taxes.

They were not exactly opposing and voting against any and all efforts to increase taxes this week. Words have meanings and if you cannot keep a signed pledge, can you keep a verbal pledge made in campaign speeches?

  12. Horst Kraus says:

Thank you observe (#8) for helping me understand why McCain’s ultimate opponent hasn’t declared yet. I recon he is still looking for money, but with all the RINOS hunted and bagged all there is left are big guns and empty shells.

  13. MadArizonan says:

    Knaller, Horst!

I think the rest of you are confusing Carolyn Allen (RINO, aka friend of Horst and Bill Konopicki) with Sylvia Allen (real conservative, champion of the taxpayer)

  14. Horst Kraus says:

Hey mad boy, “RINO” shows frustration, desperation and impotence.
    But Knaller shows class, underclass.

  15. RINO Hunter says:

Hey Horst … we can understand where you’re coming from by your words, ‘frustration’ … ‘impotence’ … ‘big guns’ … ‘empty shells’… and all this from an elderly male nudist camp proprietor.

A RINO is someone posing as a true Republican. A RINO works for open borders and amnesty. A RINO spends the state’s rainy day fund. A RINO works in secret with Democrats and calls it ‘bipartisan’.

Unity happens Horst when Republicans stay on their Platform.

Unlike McCain who was for it before he was against it… or Jan Brewer who by executive fiat plunges Arizona into the folly of “green energy” when “global warming” has been proven a hoax.

  16. Carlist says:

    Hey Horst:

Please remove the horn from your nose!

  17. He voted for it before he was against it says:

Has anyone noticed that Obama’s federal budget proposal and Konopnicki’s state budget proposal have something in common?

They both propose raising taxes as a way out of an economic crisis.

Seems in the early 1930s FDR enacted similar means to exit an economic downturn and instead turned it into a nearly decade long depression.

Arizona can’t afford Konopnicki’s wealth redistribution on a sea of red ink.

When you don’t have the revenue, you cut expenses. I thought someone said Konopnicki had an education.
