A(zgop) Christmas Story

Brought to you by the Arizona Republican Party

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the state house,

Democrats were complaining, continuing to grouse.

With the budget a bust, and no money to spare,

The Democrat solution? Never cut! Don’t despair!

“Blame Brewer, blame Republicans,” the Dems all agree,

“We have no answers or solutions!” They would decree.

Lujan and Sinema nestled snug in their beds,

With visions of stimulus flowing in from the feds.

Running out of options and all out of dough,

They seemingly just say – “nothing must go!”

As Republicans work into the night to close the gap,

It’s as if Democrats just woke from a long summers nap!

When out on the Capitol lawn there arose such a clatter,

The media sprang from its perch to see what’s the matter.

Away to the windows they flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

When, what to their wondering eyes should appear,

But the state’s AG, and the ninth floor so near.

The perennial candidate so lively so quick,

His repeated defeats, so comic, so tragic.

More rapid than eagles his patrons they came,

He whistled, he shouted, and called them by name.

“Now Kyrsten, now David! Now Albert and Rebecca!

Now Chad! Now Phil, Martha and Anna!

Let’s hang them out to dry, let’s blame them for it all!

Next year’s an election, we must hinder and stall!”

“But what if the voters should find out our course?”

Said the group’s leader without an ounce of remorse.

“You shouldn’t be worried,” said the AG,

“The third times the charm, and you’ll surely see,

A special present for taxpayers around our great state.

Return to reckless spending, and a burdensome tax rate.”

And they heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,

“Good riddance to prudence, and thanks for your support,

You’ve set the state back for which there is no retort.

I’ll see you on the trail, for it’s still in my blood,

Even if year after year, they’ve found a me a dud.”

The Center is a Relative Concept

By Emil Franzi, Special to The Explorer

The late GOP Congressman and 1972 American Independent Party Presidential candidate John Schmitz always claimed he was a member of the John Birch Society to appeal to the moderates in his district. In 1968, I was elected chairman of the Los Angeles County Young Republicans as the centrist candidate. I was supported by both the Birchers and the Objectivists.

I’m not making this up. I only report it to again illustrate that the center is a relative concept, and that moderation is far more a demeanor than an epistemology.

I was correctly taken to task for a prior column where I stated that should State Sen. Jonathan Paton enter the race for the GOP nomination in CD8 next year, he might run as a moderate. Sen. Paton called to tell me that’s difficult for someone with his solid conservative voting record on issues from gun control and abortion to taxation and spending.

The “moderate” possibility came from a Democrat consultant friend of his. Paton responded that was someone proposing how he should run, not how he would if he does.

Fair enough, but some advice. Spend a little more time with Tea Party folks and a little less with Democrat consultants.

My old colleague Jim Nintzel at the Tucson Weekly sees Paton as the GOP heavyweight in the CD8 race, and thinks it’s a replay of the Democrat CD8 primary of 2006, where Iraqi combat veteran Jeff Latas was wiped out by State Sen. Gabby Giffords’ late entry, with Iraqi combat veteran Jesse Kelly playing the Latas role and Paton Gabby’s. Putting aside two other Iraqi combat vets already in the GOP race, Brian Miller and Andy Goss, and Paton’s own Iraqi service, the races aren’t analogous. Here’s why.

Democrats aren’t Republicans. Democrat primary voters aren’t impressed by a 20-year lieutenant colonel with an Air Force Cross, and are downright suspicious even when he’s a lefty. My take on Democrat behavior erred judging that race because of my own biases. Jim’s current take on GOP behavior errs for the same reason.

2010 isn’t 2006. Politics are tidal. Conservative Republicans now have the wind at their back instead of in their face. And incumbent legislators have hardly grown in stature.

Latas never raised any money. Kelly already has a quarter million. Latas garnered little big name support. Kelly has many heavy hitters both in and out of state, including talk show host Mark Levin, Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, and former House Armed Services Chairman Duncan Hunter joining Congressman Trent Franks, Sheriffs Joe Arpaio and Paul Babeu, and Paton’s State Senate colleague Al Melvin in state. Even more important, the troops who turn out primary voters really like him.

Others are already committed to Goss, who’s from the Cochise County portion of Paton’s Senate district, and Miller, who gets to even more gun shows than I do. Paton may be too late. Eight months ago when Kelly announced, Gabby looked like a re-election slam dunk. Somewhere between Cap and Tax and ObamaCare the blue dog faded to pastel.

One comparison Republicans hope won’t re-occur is the clumsy muscle job party heavies pulled in favor of State Rep. Steve Huffman in the 2006 GOP primary. Conservatives would now rebel if you tried to force feed them Ronald Reagan. And some who drove the Huffman operation, like GOP money guru Jim Click, already support Kelly.

Paton isn’t Huffman. He’s in the GOP conservative mainstream ca. 2010 along with Kelly, Miller and Goss. Should he choose to run he’ll have a good shot as long as whatever GOP establishment types supporting him don’t follow the heavy-handed route and make him look like Huffman.

Take Back AZ CD’s on Facebook

Take Back CD-1Take Back CD-5A quick plug for two “groups” on Facebook that conservatives need to join.

Take Back CD-1 is geared toward reclaiming Arizona’s Congressional District 1 from Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick. If you are a Facebook member, be sure to join this group and follow what’s happening in this race.

Take Back CD-5 is entirely focused on unseating Harry Mitchell and handing it back to the Republican nominee in the November, 2010 General Election. Get on board with this FB group and feel free to lodge your complaints against Mitchell. Between this FB group and Harry Mitchell Watch, the voters should be able to restore Arizona’s Congressional District 5 to the Republicans.

Vile criminal defense lawyers equate Andy and Joe with Hitler; trivialize the Holocaust

AZ Common Sense

Vile criminal defense lawyers equate Andy and Joe with Hitler
Their protest trivializes the Holocaust

In all of recorded history, there has been but one Hitler, a madman whose goal was the total eradication of an entire people down to the last infant. No one, not Pol Pot, Genghis Khan or even Joseph Stalin can compare. Only one man ever, has orchestrated such a systematic elimination of human beings. To equate anyone else with Hitler is to spit on the graves of the millions he crushed.  There are scarcely words to describe what such an equation means to the living survivors and their descendants, and yet on Monday, a few radical Arizona criminal defense attorneys, who dubiously claim membership in the human race, organized a rally in front of Maricopa County Superior Court comparing County Attorney Andrew Thomas and Sheriff Joe Arpaio to Hitler.

When people resort to violence and vileness, you know they have run out of ideas. The more they do so, the more they indicate a lack of intelligence and/or judgment. Apparently, these defense attorneys must have been born on a day when both were in short supply. When someone plays the Nazi card, you know they have no substantive argument.

In addition to displaying pictures like the one above that places Hitler next to Sheriff Arpaio, several protesters held large white signs actually equating Arpaio and Thomas with Hitler. They were the usual suspects, a mob of far left angry, radical left-wing attorneys upset that Thomas doesn’t cave in to them on illegal immigration, the death penalty, and other pet left wing causes.

Although it looked as if there were at least 200 protestors, that was deceptive. Most criminal defense attorneys spend half their day downtown at Superior Court, which recesses at 12:00 noon for lunch, exactly when the protest started. Not only were numerous criminal defense attorneys already down there by default, but many standing in the crowd seemed to be court employees, defendants and other litigants who stuck around to enjoy the show.

The protest was organized by criminal attorney Jim Belanger, who represents the Home Builder’s Association which profits off illegal immigrant labor, something Thomas and Arpaio have fought against in the interests of protecting American jobs, a fact he neglected to mention even once in his speech. We are struck by the title, criminal attorney. Does this mean an attorney who represents criminals, or an attorney who is a criminal? You have to admit that there is a bit of ambiguity in the term.

Bonus Time for AZ Congressional Staffers

Well, as always it’s party time for Congress, and the party never stops.

PHOENIX — While dealing with the “greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression”, seven Arizona congressional representatives handed out around $300,000 in staff bonuses in late 2008.

  • Former Republican Rep. Rick Renzi, who had already been indicted on fraud charges and was serving the final days of his term, was the most generous, splitting $136,000 among 12 staff members.
  • Among House members still in office, Rep. Raúl Grijalva, a Democrat, was tops, distributing $52,000 to 16 employees.
  • Republican Jeff Flake, who gave $36,000 to 13 employees
  • Democrat Harry Mitchell gave $38,000 to 10 employees.
  • Republican Rep. Trent Franks gave $22,000 to nine employees.
  • Republican John Shadegg gave $24,000 to nine employees.
  • Democrat Ed Pastor gave $13,500 to nine employees.
  • Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick took office in 2009, replacing Renzi. An e-mailed statement from chief of staff Michael Frias said Kirkpatrick likely would award bonuses for 2009, though a final decision hadn’t been made as of November.

But it’s not just about the bonuses. It’s about the overall staff sizes of those who “represent” us. Here’s the current breakdown for the AZ Representatives through 9/30/09.

D1 – Ann Kirkpatrick (D) $469,372
D2 – Trent Franks ® $727,127
D3 – John Shadegg ® $790,536
D4 – Ed Pastor (D) $607,993
D5 – Harry Mitchell (D) $654,128
D6 – Jeff Flake ® $728,819
D7 – Raul Grijalva (D) $808,687
D8 – Gabrielle Giffords (D) $761,579

That adds up to $5.5 million ANNUALLY.  Don’t know about you, but whenever I call my congressman’s office to get an answer regarding legislation, I can NEVER get a atrraight answer.  Just the usual ‘I can pass your message along to the congressman”.   That’s a lot of money for staffers who do nothing but act as answering machines and email spammers. So the next time your congressman tells you he’s down with the struggle of the American people or he feels the pain and challenges of “folks at the grass-roots” level, remember they are still doling out tax-dollar bonus money for their “peeps”. Nice work if you can get.

If You Can Raise Money At Christmas…?

santa-moneyMost fundraisers aren’t even returning calls, and candidates and incumbent legislators with events scheduled for January have stopped making calls, as raising money during Christmas week is all but impossible for most.  Not all, just most apparently, since LD11 Senate candidate Rich Davis is a couple of days from the end of his $10,000 in 10 days campaign.  You can follow his progress here, but we’re going to admit to being pretty impressed by a non-incumbent being able to raise those sorts of dollars this close to the holidays.  After all, most donors are trying to save their money to buy their kids the G.I. Joe dolls with the kung-fu grip.  If you don’t believe us, just ask Billy Ray.

Davis has been preparing for a primary that will exceed $100,000 and possibly an expensive general election after that.  So he’ll need to show strength in his January financial reports if he wants to attract more attention and support.  Anything less than $30,000 will send a bad message and encourage a primary challenge.  State Rep. Adam Driggs is still seriously considering a run for the Senate seat and had a reported fundraising haul of more than $30,000 from his Buzz Aldrin event, so Davis will have to keep it close, or Driggs may well give up his committee chairmanship and jump into the primary.

Andrew Thomas: Nobody is above the law in America

From an op-ed in the Arizona Republic

Recently, this editorial page has leveled allegations of bad faith on practically a daily basis against Sheriff Joe Arpaio and me for our efforts to combat public corruption.

While I will not comment on specific criminal cases and prosecutions, it would be improper to remain silent in the face of this relentless public assault on the integrity of county law-enforcement agencies.

On one thing all can agree: Events in Maricopa County of late have been extraordinary. But for reasons I’ll explain, they are momentous because of disturbing facts these critics have chosen to ignore or downplay.

It is surprising that in this season of faith, this newspaper shows so little faith in our system of justice. This system works.

Our constitutional government has many checks and balances to protect the rights of individuals yet provide for law and order. The Bill of Rights affords numerous important protections to those accused of a crime. For hundreds of years, these have ensured fair trials presided over by our judiciary.

Neither police nor prosecutors have the final say on whether a person is guilty of a crime. A jury of citizens does. Indeed, only after the county grand jury or the elected prosecutor finds probable cause to believe a crime has been committed can an individual be formally charged with a crime.

And yet, given the current climate of accusations, the following must be stressed: This same standard of probable cause applies to everyone alike. It cannot matter if the accused is a politician, judge or celebrity. Otherwise, we usher in a legal caste system whereby certain people enjoy special privileges or immunity from criminal prosecution because of their profession or status. That is un-American and most certainly is not the law.

For my own part, I went to great lengths to show fairness in handling criminal matters involving Maricopa County officials. I sought to hand these investigations and prosecutions to outside prosecutor’s offices and special prosecutors. I even asked the U.S. Department of Justice for assistance. All was to no avail. Ultimately, I was left with the duty to enforce the law when I concluded crimes had been committed.

Frankly, it’s not easy to prosecute politicians, judges and others who, unlike typical criminal defendants, have a constituency, access to the media and other such resources. But the alternative is worse, and apparently is what some prefer. The concerted efforts behind the scenes and in this newspaper to spur power brokers to protect favored defendants and shortcut the judicial system are wrong.

Maricopa County law-enforcement agencies are tackling deeply entrenched corruption at great personal and professional cost. While we do not ask for accolades, we must defend ourselves from repeated public attacks. These attacks, quite unlike our own actions, genuinely threaten the foundation of our government.

Over the past year, we in America’s fourth-most-populous county have seen our democracy tested in unique ways. We cannot allow the precedent to be set that when politicians are investigated or charged with a crime, they can enlist their colleagues, subordinate government employees, and connections in the judiciary and media to intimidate and thwart police and prosecutors.

If these events in Maricopa County are permitted to stand, soon such tactics will be followed everywhere, every time a politician is accused of a crime. Eventually, it will no longer be possible to prosecute politicians in the United States. Our nation will be permanently corrupted. And one of the main, shining distinctions that American citizenship provides – equal justice for all – will disappear. It is my somber duty to prevent this from happening. For this I gain nothing but the knowledge I’ve done my job.

Some may lack faith that our government can withstand such strains. I believe it can, and must.

Andrew Thomas is the Maricopa County attorney.

Obama administration sides with lawbreakers

Sheriff Joe fights back – you can help

arpaio

My Dear Friends:

.I am outraged at the sham being played right now by the Obama administration to stop my lawful enforcement of our immigration laws. Please – I need your help today.

The United State Justice Department just advertised late last week that they established a Sheriff Joe Arpaio “Hotline” for the sole purpose of soliciting people (so-called victims) to call and report so-called injustices and wrongdoings that my deputies are allegedly conducting. This is a blatant and transparent demonstration of the hollow shell of the Justice Department’s non-existent case against me. Further, it clearly shows the level of outright fraud on their part to bring baseless allegations against the very deputies that THEY THEMSELVES trained to arrest illegal aliens.

Just last month, the Obama White House through the Justice Department and Homeland Security Department under Janet Napolitano, took away my authority to make street arrests and detain illegal immigrants and human smugglers. I have defied that outrageous and irresponsible federal policy that does nothing but tie the hands of Sheriffs and Police officers all across the country.

Since October when my Deputy Sheriffs had their federal authority pulled by the Obama White House, we have continued crime suppression operations in accordance with the Constitution of the United States and the Laws of the State of Arizona. My office, in this short month-and-a-half time, has arrested 54 felony smugglers and caused the deportation of over 1,400 illegal aliens. This brings to a total of illegal aliens captured and deported to almost 35,000 in the last two years. This represents almost one-third of the total arrests and deportations in the entire United States; and more than all of the other 64 local law enforcement agencies combined.

The Obama White House wants to put me out of business. Why?

The only reason they are doing this is to stop me from enforcing the laws of this state and our country. Why? Why would they try to prevent me from arresting those who are breaking the law? It all comes down to AMNESTY. They want to so badly weaken laws against illegal immigration that they can establish automatic citizenship for those who cross our borders illegally. It is appalling to think that the Obama administration wants to spend our tax dollars in placing these criminals in hospitals and hotels at our expense while they figure out a way to con the citizens of the United States that this is good for our economy. This is rubbish and insults the intelligence of hard working Americans.

If the liberal politicians and media want me to stop arresting illegal immigrants and human smugglers, then they need to change the law. For me to pick and choose which laws I want to enforce would not only be a dereliction of duty, it would lead to anarchy and chaos. I am saddened that so few politicians will join this fight and choose to ignore the laws and make empty excuses as to why we cannot secure our borders. That is why I need your help today.

The DOJ knows full well that by establishing a toll-free number, in English and in Spanish, that my political opponents, left-wing open borders activists and extremists can “stack the deck” and make any open-ended allegation they want to. The Department of Justice has already lied and openly violated the rights of my Deputies.

The allegations against me and my office are already absurd. You can just imagine what will happen now.

Never in my thirty years of working as a federal law enforcement official did we ever target a locally elected Sheriff the way this Obama Administration has. This is a fight that I cannot lose. This is the front line in the battle on illegal immigration. This is a fight that WE cannot lose.

The same people who have called me a racist; depicted me as a KKK member hanging a Hispanic man; burned me in effigy; beheaded me in effigy then paraded my severed head in a mob of cheering protesters; sued and picketed me will be calling that hotline on daily basis making more and more outrageous and false claims against me and my dedicated Deputies.

This action by the Justice Department is completely irresponsible, reckless and provocative. In fact, it’s so far out there they may have gotten the idea from the Reverend Al Sharpton. (The Rev. Al Sharpton came to Phoenix earlier this year just so he could hold an Anti-Arpaio rally and label me a racist.)

Today, I make you a steadfast promise: No matter what political shenanigans these people try, I will never back down one inch. And, I’m not going to surrender.

But I desperately need your help.

These left-wing groups and their allies in the media need to know just how strong the support is among law-abiding people like you for me and my policies. They are mounting an all out effort to remove me as Sheriff. For months now, people have been bused in to protest in front of my headquarters. Will you please stand with me and help me fight this fight?

It’s going to take a lot of resources to combat these false allegations – as well as the latest talk about a recall campaign against me. We anticipate the hardest campaign in Maricopa county history to remove me due to my unyielding stance on illegal immigration enforcement.

Your financial support today is so critical. Please log on to http://www.reelectjoearpaio.com right now and make a much needed contribution. Any amount you can offer today is tremendously appreciated. I promise I will not let you down. Our country’s future depends on what we do now.

I cannot thank you enough for joining me in this battle. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Sheriff Joe Arpaio
Maricopa County

P.S. In addition to making a contribution, please do me a favor and forward this email to your friends, family and other individuals who share our views. Together we can win this fight. Thank you.

Paper reports Giffords’ conflict of interest

The Orlando Sentinel has an expose about Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ conflict of interest with the Constellation program and it’s Ares I rocket. The article raises troubling questions about her influence over NASA decisions while her husband is with the same agency. Worse than the charges of a conflict is the disclosure that her husband, Mark Kelly, used his access to Air Force jets to rendezvous with Giffords while they were dating. One trip cost the taxpayers almost $10,000. Here is more from the Sentinel story,

They managed to maintain their long-distance relationship thanks in part to NASA; Kelly used its fleet of T-38 training jets to visit Giffords in Arizona and elsewhere.

On Memorial Day weekend in 2007, Kelly flew to Indiana to watch the Indy 500 with Giffords, his then-fiancée. Kelly listed the purpose of the trip as “Space Flight Readiness Training.” NASA later said the flight may have violated the agency rules requiring astronauts “to avoid any appearance of inappropriate use of NASA T-38′s” when logging their required monthly flight hours. The trip cost taxpayers almost $9,000.

On top of a possible conflict, the system Giffords is favoring is over budget. The article phrases it this way “Constellation — especially the Ares I rocket — was behind schedule and billions over budget.”

Giffords’ subcommittee held hearing about the Constellation and she went after one of the witnesses with whom she disagreed. The witness “expressed his “disappointment” that she said the recommendations of his 10-member panel were responsible for America “losing ground” in space — and pointedly rebutted her support of Ares I.” An observer remarked “This wasn’t a hearing, this was an ambush.” Don’t hold your breath for any of the newspapers to call her a “bully.”

Is that a T-38 in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

Here is another story with more background on the troubled Ares rocket program.

Aborting and Importing – Is Immigration the Replacement for Native Born Population?

Where has the color blind society gone?

Where has the color blind society gone?

WASHINGTON — The estimated time when whites will no longer make up the majority of Americans has been pushed back eight years — to 2050 — because the recession and stricter immigration policies have slowed the flow of foreigners into the U.S.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jO8jbAnwaP-wLfs93UGI-l_-llMgD9CKM8VG0

It was once said, by the losing side of the last major debate over immigration,  ‘… they who control a nation’s immigration policy control the future of that nation.’

That was said in 1924 just prior to the passage of the Immigration Act of 1924.   Many are unaware that in the nearly two decades leading up to this legislation , the issue of immigration had been building to a crescendo of national passion and debate.  So what’s changed?

Consider carefully the policies, cultural practices, religious orientation, and achievements of the United States prior to the last huge wave of population migration onto our shores.  This flood of humanity, many responding to the words on the Statue of Liberty, lasted for just a bit more than one generation, about 30 years.

During that time our population grew dramatically and peoples mostly from Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean region fled oppression and  sought new political expression within our borders.  Certainly they did not assimilate immediately.  However, its been now about three generations and look at the changes in our policies, cultural practices, religious orientation and society today.  The wave of immigration shown in this chart certainly changed America.

Notice the absence of illegal immigration since President Reagans limited amnesty program in the 1980s

Notice the absence of illegal immigration since President Reagan's limited amnesty program in the 1980's

Now consider the abortion chart below (provided courtesy of the Alan Guttmacher Institute, special research affiliate of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Abortions in the US since RvW

This graph is a link to source.

There have been more than 32.5 million abortions in the twenty one years since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized unrestricted abortion on January 22, 1973.

Conservative immigration statistics; the impact on population however is culmutive

Next consider the chart of illegal immigration into the United States – presently supported by some U.S. Senators from border states and entirely supported by the previous U.S. Administration.

Unlike any culture in history, we are aborting our children.  Have we bought into the Self-Hate so much that we are committing a protracted national and cultural suicide?

America can you handle the CHANGE?  You’ll have to.  Consider once again that we are aborting our native born population and importing their replacements.  The numbers speak for themselves.

Presently the Department of Homeland Security estimates the population of individuals residing within the United States now to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 million souls.  This does not include children of undocumented residents.  They are counted as legal citizens under a Supreme Court interpretation of the Constitution.

A glimpse of the past is necessary once again here.  In 1964 the Republicans passed the Civil Rights Act, and under Republican President Richard Nixon the first Affirmative Action programs were instituted in 1971.  There are 2 cases ruled by the SCOTUS that directly shaped the outcome of these actions;   Griggs v. Duke Power Company in 1971 and  the University of California v. Bakke in 1978 in which a minority student was admitted to the university’s medical school with a C+ undergraduate grade average over a non-minority student who held an A- undergraduate GPA.

The entire point of this trip down memory lane is to understand where we are as a people today.  To understand why the Associate Press in conjunction with other mainstream media chose to highlight the story that is linked to in the opening paragraph of this blog.  Why does it matter when the whites become a minority?  If we are moving towards a color blind society, it should not.  Yet there it was in big headlines on Yahoo.

Please understand, Veritas is not really concerned about daily life in the North American Union much after 2040.   For me the point is moot.   My hope is to bequeath to posterity an  independent, sovereign and color blind United States in which the innocent unborn native population will realize the American Dream.   Unchecked immigration is no substitute for a healthy birthrate.

Really think about it.  Has immigration become a substitute for a natural birth rate?  And consider the impacts of a generation of immigration, remembering the first huge wave of immigration from Eastern Europe and the changes it has wrought in all sectors of our society and has influenced our view of government and society.

So what might the United States look like in 3 generations following the mid-1980s, or a decade before there is no more ethnic majority?  And what cultural, political and religious changes will their posterity on our shores bring?    Here are the sources for the look of the future.

Country of Origin (January 2006)

Latin & Central Amer. 3,000,000 24%

Prediction: National Tax Revolt

News out of Washington this morning that Senate Democrats have secured their 60th vote from Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska. This guarantees that the federal government will now begin its takeover of 1/6th of our economy.

Now that the country is intensely divided between those paying the taxes to support those living off the taxes (read REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH) I would expect those who pay into the system to stop paying altogether through tax avoidance. I’ve seen it happen before in the private sector so don’t be surprised to see it start to occur at all levels.

A Response to “High Ground”

Chuck CoughlinUnlike some conservatives who get all worked up over the issue of immigration, I still get fired up over the issue of taking innocent human life through the act of abortion.

So I was quite irritated this evening when I read a post written by High Ground defending Governor Brewer over her appearance at a fundraising event at the home of two individuals who have given their time, talent and treasure to helping elect candidates who support the killing of precious innocent life. Both Paulina Vazquez Morris and her husband Jason are members of Planned Parenthood which everyone knows is the largest provider of abortions in Arizona.

Jason RoseThe post also took a swipe at Vernon Parker, one of several Republican gubernatorial challengers who issued a press release prior to the event demanding that Governor Brewer pull out of the event.

High Ground’s post also took a swipe at another consultant/PR guy, Jason Rose of Rose & Allyn, who is helping Parker with his bid for Governor so this may also be somewhat of a spat between Jason Rose and High Ground’s Chuck Coughlin who remains one of Governor Brewer’s closest advisors.  (For the sake of full disclosure, my firm, Red Mountain Consulting, does not have a candidate in any of the gubernatorial races.)

So allow me to set the record straight as someone who has been involved in the pro-life movement in Arizona since 1990; operated the largest pro-life organization in Arizona;  and even lent my name as the Executive Director of Arizona Right to Life on a mass fundraising letter to our members on behalf of then candidate for Secretary of State, Jan Brewer. (Many of her $5 donations came from the true and faithful pro-life community.)

Before I issue my criticism, I do have to applaud Governor Brewer for signing multiple pro-life bills this year – legislation that Cathi Herrod with the Center for Arizona Policy and Ron Johnson with the Arizona Catholic Conference have been working on for many years and which would never have been signed if Napolitano had remained Governor.

The correction comes in High Ground’s statement claiming that Barry Goldwater’s wife was the founder of Planned Parenthood.

Not true.

In reality, the founder of Planned Parenthood was Margaret Sanger who was also deeply entrenched in the American eugenics movement and who had ties to Germany’s elite. Sanger was an ardent racist and obviously wanted to limit the propagation of African Americans and Hispanics as revealed in her writings and speeches. The underlying theme of her agenda was to stop the breeding of African Americans and Hispanics across the country.

Peggy GoldwaterShockingly, you can still hear these whisperings amongst upper class Democratic and Republican’s who tend to reside in zip codes defined by incomes greater than $150,000/year. (Hmmm… This should make anyone wonder whether or not the issues of illegal immigration and abortion are related – I really want to discuss this in another post.)

Why then should we not be surprised when there is an adverse reaction when a Pro-Life Governor raises her glass and toasts a couple who have been so actively involved with an organization who’s primary agenda is to exploit women, kill their unborn babies, take their money and send them out broken and robbed of their innocence?

Frankly, I’m disgusted by it all. Would High Ground have reacted the same way Parker’s campaign did if Vernon Parker had held a fundraising event with Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan or Jeremiah Wright and said the event was about “bringing people of different backgrounds and outlooks together?”

Excuse me if I’m missing High Ground’s consistency or attempt to reconcile two opposing worldviews. Maybe that’s why many conservatives are scratching our heads wondering who the Governor really is and what has High Ground done with Jan Brewer?

Or, maybe that’s what makes consultants like myself “true believers.”

Tony Bouie Files For LD4 Senate Race

Tony BouieCapitol observers had thought the LD4 Senate race was going to get a lot quieter after State Representative Tom Boone announced that he would not be running in the GOP primary against former State Senator Scott Bundgaard.  Well it might be time for them to get their ear protection ready, because 2008 LD6 State House candidate Tony Bouie, who moved to LD4 and had filed to run for the State House in LD4, changed his committee paperwork yesterday and is now running for the State Senate.

Bouie’s assumption would appear to be that a House race against both State Rep Judy Burges and current State Sen Jack Harper is too tough, and that the Senate race represents a better chance to win.  Of course, he had originally filed to run for the House, so we can’t be sure what has changed.  It is likely that the move was triggered solely by Boone’s decision.  Regardless of the reason(s) for the move, it guarantees voters will be treated to another entertaining and volatile race, as voters from LD6 can attest to.

A third candidate, Shawn Kohner, is also filed for the race.
