Christmas is a Christian holiday and is an official state holiday. It is hard to imagine another religions holiday being treated in a similar manner so we should all be clear this is not about ‘religion’ in the abstract but one religion.

Instead of the government being the prime movers behind ‘Happy Holidays’ it is quite clear that this was initially done by stores and retailers who didn’t want to alienate the 25% of consumers who are non-Christian. It also became used by people who are willing to acknowledge that they can’t assume everyone has the same belief they do.
