Not only is “painfully clear” 100% right about Crandall being a significant hindrance to budget cuts, Crandall himself has been heard around the capitol (prior to Gray’s announcement) telling people that he “wants to be the next Carolyn Allen.”

If Crandall does become a senator in 2011, the same caucus gridlock that plagues the Republicans now will probably continue with new players. If you’re a Dem, I guess that’s a good thing.

One of the more level-headed people down at the Capital. You can only take so crap and you go home. Sorry to see Mr. Gray do this, but, I understand. It is a thankless job. And the pay is crappy too.

A Senator Crandall will be an absolute disaster. His opposition to spending cuts was a major reason the Legislature has been unable to balance the budget. Hopefully the voters of Mesa will allow Rich Crandall to “spend more time with his family”.

You are absolutely correct. Senator Gray has been one of the highest quality members of the Legislature in recent years. Whoever pursues the Senate seat will have some incredibly high standards to replace.

Chuck is a class act and a man of real honor. He is also perhaps one of the most sincerely patriotic and committed men I have worked with in my lifetime. He really gives his all and “leaves it all on the field” down there. His concern for his fellow members’ needs, both politically and personally, was significant and inspiring to see. I look forward to seeing where he may pop up on the scene in the future. Wherever that place may be, Arizona will be the better for it!
