This should come as no surprise and I’m willing to bet it’s fueling many a behind-the-scenes discussion on the US Senate race here in Arizona.
According to a recent Rasmussen poll, JD. Hayworth is within two percentage points of John McCain and JD isn’t even running, yet.
One person who could control the dynamics of the US Senate race is former Minuteman, Chris Simcox who is currently polling at four percent. If Simcox were to bow out, and JD decides to get in the race, McCain would be in big trouble. (I’ve been saying for months that John McCain was vulnerable!)
If you listen to JD’s show (at KFYI-550) on a daily basis, you’ll know that JD has been coy lately over his intentions. But I’m willing to bet that he’s going to get real serious in a hurry after seeing these results. We can also assume that Simcox has already being approached and asked to bow out.
This could be the next big shakeup here in Arizona but don’t be surprised to see two other high profile races see a shakeup in the weeks ahead.
Please, JD, run. We need you.

JD lost in AZ to Harry Mitchell in a district where Republicans have an 18 point advantage. I question the poll. JD’s support is soft.

I am no fan of Chris Simcox but I know of no reason why anybody should vote for McCain or Hayworth over Simcox.
Chris Simcox supports a stable gold standard and that is something (apart from Hayworth hawking a gold retailer on his show) that neither Hayworth or McCain are likely to take up as an issue.
JD Hayworth is another version of Tom Tancredo.
Tom Tancredo is the reason a midwestern State like Colorado went from Red to Blue during the 08 elections. Arizona is 4th behind New Mexico in population and if the Conservatives want to see Arizona turn into the likes of New Mexico (recently went from Red to Blue) and Colorado….then support JD.
If you want to keep Arizona “red”, then vote for McCain. It’s that simple. Obama would NOT have won the 08 elections if it were not for the Latinos who voted for him.

McCain carried his home state by around 10%. Most Arizonans understand he is out of touch and the most divisive politician in the State. The conservative base is looking for ANY alternative. JD on the other hand has strong support from the base who will do what ever they can to draft him. The fact he is so close in the polls and has not campaigns or even said he will run speaks volumes! I don’t remember when anyone generated so much hope and support from the base. JD runs, JD wins, Arizona wins!
That might hold true in States such as North and South Dakota, but not in a heavily Hispanic populated State such as Arizona.
JD Hayworth would repeat the mistakes of Tom Tancredo, Pete Wilson and Mitt Romney. There is a reason why McCain beat Romney in the top 4 Hispanic populated states.
McCain beat Romney in New Mexico and received 85% of the primary vote. In California alone McCain beat Romney by 8 pts. Then there is Texas….Romney received a whopping 2% in that Lone Star State.

The one thing I will say is it is not like McCain has been campaigning either… He has not spend a cent yet. He also has a lot of money of which JD does not.
So yeah this has to be exciting for JD and has to peak his interests but Rasmussen has been notoriously inaccurate and he has no money while McCain has some 12 million I think… So this by no means really means as much as this blog hopes it does.
The poll surveyed 570 “likely” voters. Who were they, where do they live, what time of day was the phone call ? These are questions that need to be answered before anyone can take this poll seriously.
What matters is who turns out and votes in the primary, everything else is window dressing.
Hey DeeDee Mitt Romney got 2% in Texas because he suspended his campaign a month before the Texas primary not because of the ground swell of latino support for John McCain. Also there may be a lot of Hispanics against JD but most are illegal and don’t vote.
DeeDee, if we agree on 75-80 percent of the issues, then we are on the same team! With that being said, I disagree with your open borders, pro amnesty stance. I am also Hispanic, but first and foremost I am a patriotic, pro rule of law American. The New Mexico ‘primary’ was held on June 3rd, rendering it essentially meaningless in the nominating process. Only McCain and Ron Paul were on that ballot. In California, McCain won the primary, but only with 39 percent of the vote among Hispanics. Logic dictates that 61 percent of Hispanics in California preferred a more conservative candidate.
Again DeeDee, we are in agreement on so many issues, I presume. We can have a civil debate on the illegal immigration issue. Remember, make the distinction between illegal and legal immigration. Often times this is left on the back burner.
The bottom line on all of this goes back to can JD do it? Can he pay-off his huge legal debt, can he raise enough money to run a legit campaign in the time he has, can he afford to live without his radio show?
He won’t run. He knows it. But his name is way out there, this poll, and all the other attention has to be making his stock rise on his talk show. National attention to the possibility of knocking off the GOP nominee is a story, his appearances on Fox news…could it be syndication is coming in the future and even bigger bucks his way?
Nightcrawler, I was one of those who were polled. The call came at approximately 6 in the evening. My residence is in the Tucson area. I am a registered Republican, conservative and fall in the age group of 50 to 64. I do vote in all elections, whether they are special bond elections or Presidential. The fact is, if you take Chris Simcox out of the poll, JD is beating McCain and he hasn’t even announced yet. You can ignore that all you want but the facts speak for themselves. JD is hugely popular in Arizona, he’s raising money like crazy. McCain is not popular here. Especially when you consider this election is going to be decided by Republicans, and Republicans in Arizona prefer conservatives. JD is about the only Republican who could take McCain out, so let’s pray he runs. Republicans in Arizona are sick of McCain’s constant bashing of our party, crossover votes with Democrats, lack of principles, and threatening those of us who don’t agree with him. Yes. It will alienate. The Tea Parties which I have supported have taken up a great cause in “limited government” and the free enterprise system. If you are a true free enterprise believer, then you will not take up a restrictionist/protectionist approach to solving the immigrant labor problem. Immigration is a labor issue. Abe Lincoln (the first Republican President) solved a difficult labor issue in his day, and we should take up Lincoln’s mantle in solving that issue today.
Slave labor used to be LEGAL, and Abe was instrumental in making it ILLEGAL. As such….immigration labor is “illegal”, and Republicans should be instrumental in backing COMPETITIVE LABOR, particularly in the agricultural, construction, hotel, restaurant settings. Who goes to college to pick cotton? Fact is, we depend on immigration competitive labor. That competitive labor reduces costs to the American consumer on the backend, and you never hear that credit being given.
A significant amount of labor is being off loaded internationally because other countries don’t have the American minimum wage standards, and as such…I support “competitive labor offloading” to my soil neighbors such as Canada and Mexico rather than to China and India.
The way to solve immigration labor is via the free enterprise and Capitalistic method. Capitalism is a helluva lot better than trickle up poverty, folks.

Don’t think for a second that Arizona businesses have not suffered due to the “pied piper” playing his tune away from Arizona.
George Bush won 44% of the HISPANIC vote, and we were making inroads since the Reagan era, and guess what? The likes of Tom Tancredo, JD Hayworth, and Russell Pierces’ “wetback operation” cost the Republican party 13% of the Latino voting bloc.
Now we only account for 31% of the Republican Party, and the pro life issue has saved the Republican party because most Latino Catholics and Evangelicals are prolife.
In 2008, Hispanics voted in RECORD numbers demonstrating growing civic engagement and this underscores my strong belief that a vote for JD Hayworth (which reminds me of Tom Tancredo of Colorado), would be a vote to turn the State of Arizona from “red” to “blue” for a very, very long time.
The median age of the Hispanics is 25 compared to 42 of White non-Hispanics; and the Hispanics are at a stage where their core values are being developed and influenced.
Over the next four decades, the number of minority labor workers will grow from 32% to 55% in the United States. The country as a whole will benefit form productivity, social security taxes (with the looming retiring baby boomers), purchasing power, taxes of the Hispanic population.

A lot of things have changed since 2008. If being for open borders is the key to getting Hispanic votes, then why didn’t they vote for McCain in the last election? He made it clear he was catering to them. We lost in 2008 because the American people sent a message of “anyone but Republicans”. Now they are showing they want people who are conservative, not necessarily Republican. I can guarantee that if the Republican party starts to be openly for open borders, we will encourage a 3rd party and we will for sure be a blue state for a long time.

I remind folks of what McCain did, and I hope I can somehow pay John McCain for his efforts. The question of upholding immigration laws and providing for their enforcement has gone to the voters of this state via intiative several times, and has always passed by landslide percentages with Hispanic vote evenly divided.
What DOES occur to make red states blue (a misallocation of ideological colors btw) are general amnesties (see Simpson-Mazzoli) or the mass inclusion of illegals on the rolls (see California) to ensure liberal victories over the long term.
One fact stands out in any historical study of voting behavior i.e. No first generation immigrant group (with the exception of anti-Communist Cubans and Chinese) vote for a party of small government
The Open Borders crowd often point to Reagan’s success in ganering the Hispanic vote in 1980 and ’84. What they carefully leave out is the fact that the Hispanic electorate in those years was largely second and third generation types who had risen to middle class status and therefore began to trend Republican as Italians did back East several decades ago!
Even then RR got about 45%, a large segment but not a majority.
The core of the Republican Open Borders Brigade is made up of restaurant and hotel mgmt types (as in California) who have used an umbrella provided by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and its Southwest State affiates to ensure a steady supply of cheap, unskilled and (especially) unorgonized labor.
And they’re not above working with the Democratic left to ensure that benefits and cost of living adjustments are financed by the taxpayer and not themselves.
John McCain has followed this line of operation to perfection as, unfortunately, the rest of the AZ Congressional GOP delegation with the exception of Trent Franks.
Thus, when McCain ran for re-election five years ago, his Democratic opponent was a high school teacher who no one had ever heard of prior to the race, and no one has been able to track down since. The fix was in! Both sides got and will get what they want from John McCain, cheap votes and cheap labor!
And an eventual liberal Democratic stranglehold on the state. At that point, cheap labor will disappear along with Right to Work laws!
California here we come! And due to the same short term fast buck mentality that has bedevilled the GOP both nationally (see manipulated interest rates and sub-prime loan policies) and locally (a determination NOT to apply rule of law procedures to immigration)

I am a precinct committeman in Globe. Until he picked Sarah for VP I was luke warm in my support for McCain. If anyone has a chance of beating him it is JD. It is quite evident to the readers of Sonoran Alliance that you are avoiding my questions. I am not being unfair or unreasonable. How do you expect to be taken as a credible source?
To make it easier for you, maybe you will answer a question about the content on your website:

It’s that simple. Why are you asking me to reinvent the wheel? Quit being lazy and find the answers that you need on our website. I am not a big fan of doing things for others. It was a bitter pill when JD lost to the Tempe Left Over: a bad year for Republicans all around. Years ago I volunteered for McCain and worked hard for the man. Then a few days before the primary I met him. Live and learn.
Should JD run I will contribute to and work for him. And this Hispanic voting bloc is nowhere NEAR the monolith the talking heads of media land tell us it is as in “You Don’t Speak for Me”.

Thanks for the self-righteous social speel (which as Joe M. observes, is a dodge to avoid serious discussion on a vital issue)
As an aside, I am also pro-life and have hit the streets on the issue. And if you want to stress your position as to future campaign loyalties you’ll find that J.D.’s record is superior to McCain’s.
I also wouldn’t over-emphasize the Hispanic support for the prolife movement in this state as both Hispanic Congressmen are solid pro-aborts (Pastor did a 180 on the issue after leaving the B.O.S and running for Congress) and the vast majority of Hispanic state legislators are now safely in the cocoon of Planned Parenthood, N.A.R.A.L. and Emily’s List.
I’m also well aware of the left wing trending of Arizona. But as I mentioned before, we’re following a template followed by California and Colorado, which was set not because of the Pete Wilsons, and Tom Tancredo’s, but in spite of them by self centered State Chamber of Commerce backroom political manipulations to successfully stifle immigration law enforcement. Their efforts were then capped by an amnesty provided by Simpson-Mazzoli which enabled the Democrats to swell their registration.
It was the Tancredos in California and the Pearces of Arizona who brought public attention to the scandal. (And by the way, why wasn’t Tancredo defeated in Colorado and why is Pearce still in office if immigration law enforcement is poison to the GOP?)
Furthermore, why have state referendums reinforcing the implementation of immigration laws, and employer responsibility under them, been passed by overwhelming numbers during elections cycles?

And yes, as Christ said, we DO have a duty to the poor, and a basic task is to form a stable society by instilling a respect for the law.
If you believe that the law (in this case that part which pertains to immigration)is unjust, it is your duty to work for their repeal, not castigate those who would enforce it on behalf of the general society!
