“Draft Dean Martin” Flair Flaunted
Posted by Major Bug Western under Campaigns & Elections[16] Comments

We’ve all heard a version of the story about the Madison Avenue advertising hot shot who created the most persuasive and impactful campaign ever to sell a new brand of dog food. It failed miserably. The problem: the dogs wouldn’t eat the dog food.
I thought of that story not once but twice last week when Governor Jan Brewer and then Attorney General Terry Goddard filed papers for the 2010 Arizona gubernatorial election.
Arizona can do better.
I’m beginning to see “Draft Dean Martin” buttons being worn around town. Finally, a Choice, Not an Echo!

Very cool. I hope I can get one at Wednesday’s Tea Party festivities.
I really hope Dean jumps in the race. I just don’t see Vernon Parker or John Munger saving the state from a Governor Goddard… a virtual certainty if Jan Brewer is the GOP nominee.

Well, let’s see how the Klein administration performs now with Eileen Klein at the helm.

Yes, I think a Brewer candidacy may be just a little bit more than a challenge.

Go Dean Martin!

Imagine a competent conservative on the 9th Floor…priceless.

When you get right down to it, our top priority is nominating someone who can beat Goddard. Let’s face it, this governor has not made that an easy task. Voters overwhelmingly blame Republicans in Arizona for our fiscal mess.
I agree that Martin could argue that he has been warning us. But, what did he do beyond that? Nothing.
In my opinion, Parker gives us the best chance to argue to voters that we are nominating a new leader with a new vision for our state. I don’t think the same old career politician will cut it this time.

Actually, the only real leader in the pack is Terry Goddard. He knows how to work to get things done. Leadership that works!

This state does not need another professional politician. In order to fix Arizona’s economic circumstances we need leadership with real economic experience. John Munger is that person. It is outlined under his “Plan for Prosperity.”

Its cute to see everyone has gotten their campaigns on here posting!
Honestly I feel martin would have a great shot at beating goddard. As treasurer all he could do is warn us there was not much else you can do. Also, and since no one else wants to say it I will its hard to attack any of martins actions with the passing of his wife… How do you attack him for his actions?? I mean really.. All he has to say is well I was dealing with the death of my wife and child and everyone says oh yeah goddard is an asshole…

Hey, Parker Fan,
Apparently you don’t have a CLUE what the Treasurer DOES per his job description. It is NOT the job of the Treasurer to write bills, or sign them. That’s the Legislature’s and the Gov.’s job respectively. Dean EXCEEDED his job’s expectations by developing a new predictive metric that gave him advance notice of the bursting of the housing bubble and the state’s then impending budget woes. Dean COULD have sat on his hands and done nothing. He DIDN’T. He WARNED the tools on the 9th floor, in the House and the Senate. The Governor called him “Chicken Little”, remember that? (Probably not because you’re clueless about what the Treasurer does and has done). So, Dean WAS pro-active about heading off the budget mess BEFORE it happened. I’d call that doing something. It was up to the Lege and the Governor to make the cuts. They chose to do nothing. The Treasurer is NOT a policy position.
Let me tell you what else the Treasurer has done to help out with the budget disaster: he cleaned up the mess Peterson left behind, he’s earned about a billion dollars in low risk investments for the state (how’s that for trying to dig the state out of a hole!), he’s increased the transparency of the office (so others can track state expenditures), and he’s also forced the Governor to account for unaccounted funds (~$240M IIRC).
Let me ask: other than send his smarmy little Paradise Valley-dwelling minions to make inaccurate and snide comments, what has PARKER done about the budget? Has Parker come up with ANY details on what he’d do about the budget…has he offered ANY solutions whatsoever? What did Parker do to PREDICT the budget mess? Come back and talk to me when Parker bothers to develop his platform…on second thought, forget it. Parker is irrelevant in this race and will not be a factor.

The Dean Martin Kool-Aid dringers should do some research on Martin. In 2004 he got cought with his hand in the cookie jar skiming campaign funds into his ownb pocket through front business entities he set up and about a year ago a complaint against him with the AG was turned over to the FBI for investigation. Nominate Martin and this Republican will support Goddard.

RR, If your claim is accurate, obviously Martin is innocent. Had you claimed anybody was convicted of anything you may get my attention.
Slimy accusations with no back-up more naturally puts you in the Goddard camp anyway.
Grassroots Arizona is overwhelmingly clamoring for a Martin candidacy while shunning Governor Tax Hike.

Johnny,
Anyone who has followed the Martins for any time at all know his campaigns and his service in office would be enhanced with Mrs. Martin at his side.
I heard Treasurer Martin speak in October. I assure you the tragedy which has occured is invisible in Treasurer Martin’s public life. By the way, my Pa had a wood shed just for kids like you with bad manners.

Terri,
Where did I say he was better without her? I am only saying he is harder to attack for any actions over the last year. Read my comment again..

I like what I see when I look up Munger’s Plan for Prosperity. I haven’t spent the time to watch Parker’s videos. I do know that Dean Martin told the truth and nobody was able to effectively refute him (although I saw plenty of ostriches).
In a very real way I think Dean Martin is the Treasurer Arizona needs till the year 2014.

Jill, you’ve got RR pegged. Dean is the most honest person in politics. Sticks and stones may break his bones but cheap, slimy words and baseless accusations will never change his great character.
