Dr. Patterson,

"There is an across-the-board median delay of 16.1 weeks from referral to a specialist until treatment actually begins."

I had the same experience in Phoenix in 2000-2001. I was suspected to have colon cancer and the wait period between each test was about 16 weeks - in the end it was 1 year to the day when I finally had the test I needed to confirm or deny the existence of Cancer.

Q.
What’s the most important lesson that Americans can learn from the Taiwanese example?

A.
You can have universal coverage and good quality health care while still managing to control costs. But you have to have a single-payer system to do it.
