Republicanville Debuts!

Congratulations to Charles Jensen on the launch of his new website, Republicanville. This is sure to be a great new social networking site for Republicans across the country.

We look forward to phenomenal growth over the months ahead!

Who Needs to Bother with Town Hall Meetings…

…when you have the Arizona Republic working for you?

Arizona Republic assistant editorial page editor Robert Leger’s post on one constituent’s efforts to actually meet with Congressman Harry Mitchell says it all.

No COLA for You!

We already know that Social Security is in serious trouble but when the Social Security Trustees begin releasing news that there will be NO Cost of Living Adjustments in 2010, you have to wonder if the end is closer than we realize.

Indicators like that are akin to employers saying no more overtime or pay raises are frozen. It’s usually what happens right before the employer informs everyone of mass layoffs. You simply don’t come out with major bad news at one moment in time.

This will be the first time that the SSA has not provided a cost of living adjustment in 35 years. The Associated Press reports that the COLA will not occur because it is pegged to inflation and inflation was negative due to a reduction in energy costs in 2008.

But the AP report makes no mention of the anticipated dramatic increase of inflation due to the US Treasury printing up and flooding the market with greenbacks.

Watch for this to be a major issue in the 2010 mid-term elections. You can bet this will not sit well with seniors who have paid into the system all their life.

A final note. This is a great example of why individuals should plan for their own future and not rely on the federal government to be there to bail them out. I solidly endorse the growing movement to “Opt Out” of dependency on the government. It’s no longer a matter of “if” but “when.”

Signs, signs, everywhere a sign! What’s in a sign?

Gotta love the videography work of  Mike at AgapeMedia.net for his great coverage of the protest(s) that took place at Gabrielle Giffords’ office on Friday night.

McCain Agrees with Palin on Culture of Death

Here’s another important issue I’m going to agree with Senator John McCain on and I appreciate him showing support for Governor Sarah Palin.

Many understand that this Administration and the Democratic party has been permeated and inculcated with a utilitarian ethic in which individuals whom do not meet a certain “quality of life” threshold, are no longer worthy of protection under the law. It already happens prior to birth so why wouldn’t it occur with the elderly, disabled or infirm?

In this video clip, Senator McCain back Sarah Palin on the underlying premise that this utilitarian view of individuals will ultimately lead to federal panels which deny individuals health care leading to their death.

John McCain Gets It

Everyone knows that this blog has been critical of our senior Senator, John McCain, on a number of issues.

Here’s one I’m going to publicly applaud him on because he knows it’s a bad idea to raise taxes during a severe recession. Senator McCain also understands that the party of Reagan which has always stood for reducing the tax and regulation burden on individuals and small businesses was sent the message over the last two election cycles, that you don’t raise taxes, period. Now if that Reganesque way of thinking would only trickle back down to the state level where some elephants have lost their memory.

Here’s the news story reported on ABC-15 from the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON — Sen. John McCain is refusing to consider raising taxes to reduce the ballooning deficit.

McCain was asked on ABC’s “This Week” whether he would make a similar pledge as Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to do whatever it takes to bring down the deficit over the long run, such as raising taxes.

The Arizona Republican said “no.” He says the government should be able to reduce the deficit without new taxes by reducing the costs of Medicare and Social Security, which make up significant portions of the federal budget.

McCain also says the government should eliminate earmark and pork-barrel spending to send a message to Americans that it is serious about eliminating waste and corruption in federal spending.

Hoorah! Marine goes ballistic in Washington

Let’s hear it for this U.S. Marine veteran, David Hederick, who read the riot act to Congressman, Brian Baird in Washington state.

Friday Night at Gabrielle Giffords’ Office

Here’s something you don’t usually see: hundreds of protesters gathered on a Friday night, in the rain for a political protest of a sitting congressman. OK, the rain actually broke long enough for the protesters to make their point (3 hours). I’m estimating that there were about 500-600 protesters over the course of the event.

Yet, no sign of Gabrielle Giffords whose office was the venue for the event. Lots of true patriots in attendance as well as several former elected officials, current elected officials and candidates in waiting.

I have to hand it to the Tucson Tea Party folks, they sure know how to throw a protest complete with T-shirts and excited and angry citizens.

Here is one of the interviews I shot of a young lady who was well spoken, not paid to be there and not a member of any union.

Ms. Sinema’s Kindergarten Class

In an earlier post, I informed you that Democrats were taking a play from the town halls that I’ve had a part in organizing around the state for Americans for Prosperity. One of those plays was a forum conducted in Marana’s Dove Mountain area by Obama’s hand-picked shill in the Arizona Legislature, Kyrsten Sinema.

My good friend from Gila Courier was there and covered the story with a short video and photos. According to GC, it was a two-hour yawner. Please be sure to check out GC’s coverage here. Watch this video and tell me if you feel like you’re back in Ms. Sinema’s kindergarten class.

Hold The Line Pamela!

And yet another ad comes out beating up on Senator Pamela Gorman over her steadfast refusal to raise taxes on the voters of Arizona.

This one was put out by the Arizona Manufacturers Council who represents not the voters but, manufacturers.

I’m getting a little angry at those special interests who seem to think all they need to do is push Pamela Gorman around because she’s a woman. Why the hell not target Senator Ron Gould?

This especially irritates me because I represent the TAXPAYERS of Arizona. You know, the ones who have to pay for all this mess during the current recession.

These guys need to learn fast that they’re barking up the wrong tree. When all is said and done and we are a year down the road, the true heroes of this budget crisis which will turn into a budget collapse, will be those who voted against it.

Arizona Education Association Obstructionists Pushing for Veto

Here’s an email that came across my inbox although I am not a teacher in the public schools. This is being sent to teachers across the state probably using our tax dollars:

Flawed Budget Sent to Governor Brewer – Call for a Veto!

a.. Listen to the Radio Ad Outside Maricopa County – Inside Maricopa County
b.. Contact the Governor
c.. Make a Car Sign and Post It

Senate President Bob Burns (R-Peoria) and House Speaker Kirk Adams (R-Mesa) transmitted a partisan budget package to the governor today. Your participation is needed to stop this budget package that will cut nearly $500 million in education funding, strip basic rights of teachers, provide a $250 million tax cut to corporations, and leave our state with a budget deficit in 2011 of over $2.5 billion dollars. Click here for a summary of this flawed budget package.

You Can Help!

AEA is sponsoring a radio commercial urging Arizonans to help stop massive cuts to public education. The ad urges voters to call Governor Brewer and ask her to veto the budget package. Listen to the ad (Outside Maricopa County – Inside Maricopa County) and forward this to everyone on your email list.

Click here to download a sign you can print and post in the back window of your car. The sign reinforces the radio message – Governor Brewer – Support Our Schools – Veto the Budget. Make multiple copies and distribute them to co-workers, family members, and friends. (School employees should not use school district facilities to copy or post this sign.)

Send the governor an email and ask her to veto this flawed budget. It is essentially the same budget she vetoed on July 6 calling it fatally flawed because of devastating cuts to education and irresponsible fiscal policies that will build a future budget deficit for the state.

Act now. The budget is on the desk of the governor.

The AEA March4Schools citizens’ movement has met the challenge each time Senate President Bob Burns and House Speaker Kirk Adams have tried to push through this flawed budget. There is too much at stake to stop now. So, please take action today and forward this message to your email list. Tomorrow may be too late.

Visit www.march4schools.com  for the latest news on the budget and the citizens’ movement to support our public schools.

What “Death Panels?”

Here’s what we can expect if Democratically-controlled Washington, DC passes the Obama health care plan:

YouTube Preview Image

And to you liberals that say, “It’s not in the bill,” why then did the Democrats vote AGAINST putting such protections in place during the committee vote?

It’s the underlying “quality of life” culture that has replaced a “sanctity of life” culture.

This plan has the stink of death all over it!

Raul Grijalva: ‘All or Nothing!’

We know where Congressman Raul Grijalva stands on Obama’s federal takover on health care. According to a PR News Wire report:

Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., and Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., both leaders of important House caucuses supporting a public insurance option, will join health care expert Jacob Hacker and Campaign for America’s Future co-director Roger Hickey on a conference call on Thursday to discuss a new report that details the reasons why growing blocs of House members refuse to support a health care bill without a public insurance option.

The report details how a strong public health insurance plan is critical to successfully achieving the goals of national health reform — lower costs, higher quality and guaranteed health security for all Americans. The paper evaluates the different proposals for health reform advancing through Congress for their potential to satisfy the president’s goals for health reform. Reps. Grijalva and Ellison will discuss efforts to secure a strong public health insurance plan. Hacker will discuss his new report, which details key elements of a strong public plan in the House and Senate bills and why an alternative proposal, insurance cooperative, are destined to fail.

Grijalva’s position is backed up by a recent press conference that was made available on YouTube:

Ultimately, Raul Grijalva had made up his mind on the Obama health care proposal. Andit’s not just that he will vote for the full-blown version of nationalized socialized medicine, he’s out on the stump leading te charge for it.

So for all you consitutents in Southern and western Arizona attending Grijalv’s so-called town halls, no matter how adamant or outspoken you are in your opposition to the plan, Grijalva doesn’t care what you want or think. He’s going to vote to force you into nationalized rationing of health care while he continues to receive his congressional top-of-the-line health benefits.

And that doesn’t mean stop showing up at the meetings. If you’re mad as hell, you still need to attend and voice your opposition. But I would also encourage you to help retire Raul Grijalva by getting involved with a grassroots campaign like conservative, Ruth McClung.

Dana Marie Kennedy: a far left partisan extremist, and proud of it

You have to hand it to Phoenix City Council Democrat candidate Dana Marie Kennedy: she isn’t afraid to tell voters what she’s about. She is running against Republican incumbent Sal DeCiccio.

Normally liberal candidates for office try to downplay or even hide their far left-wing views, but not Dana.  Her website proudly displays the support she is receiving from all kinds of far-left organizations and politicians http://www.kennedyforphoenix.com/links.html.  Here are a few:

Congressman Raul Grijalva (from Tucson no less!)
Congressman Ed Pastor
Arizona Representative Kyrsten Sinema
Arizona Representative David Lujan
Don Bivens, Arizona Democrat Party chair
Arizona List (rabid pro-abortion group)
Planned Parenthood (see above)
Attorney General Terry Goddard
Arizona Senator Ken Cheuvront
City Councilman Michael Nowakowski
Arizona Senator Leah Landrum Taylor
AFSCME (government employees union)
AFA-CWA (union)

One would think she would be hesitant to advertise this as she’s running in a relatively conservative council district.  But we suppose it’s hardly surprising given the woman says her political idol is Paul Wellstone!  http://www.azcentral.com/community/ahwatukee/articles/2009/07/31/20090731phx-cityhall0801.html

And we’re still waiting for her to be criticized for injecting partisanship into the supposedly non-partisan race, as Randy Pullen was when he ran for Mayor.

But regardless, Kennedy gets an A+ for honesty.  But an F for political acumen.

Remember the clowns at Ringling Brothers Circus?

They may be running the county now

Excessive spending going on at County IT

Check out the article in the New Times about Maricopa County IT CIO Steve Wetzel spending money on computer equipment like it’s going out of style. What is going on? The county is in the middle of one of the biggest fiscal crises ever, and the Board of Supervisors is already in trouble for spending $347 million on a new luxury court tower. The Board of Supervisors has forced the Sheriff and County Attorney to cut their law enforcement budgets by 15%.

Who is this guy and why is he doing it?

According to New Times, an anonymous letter revealed that Wetzel is a former employee of Cisco Systems, and got Cisco to give the county a mysterious $527,000 donation. Obviously they’re not doing it out of the generosity of their hearts.

Excerpts from the article:

Hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent wiring these offices and more for Cisco WiFi, only to find out that security rules governing wireless transmission of the sensitive data these offices handle, ever prohibit them from turning them on!

Additionally, Mr. Wetzel has spent millions on Cisco racks, routers and installation labor in order to build his “Gigabit to the desktop” across the County. Much of the equipment is still not turned on, yet the County is already on year two of a three year Cisco warranty!

A trip to the basement of the County’s 301 building will show stacks of expensive Cisco equipment still sitting in their original boxes, uninstalled.

The letter also states that a member of the Board of Supervisors, (whom the letter, suspiciously, does not name), traveled to Sweden on Cisco’s dime to attend Al Gore’s Nobel Prize ceremony.

The anonymous letter says that this is the 5th CIO the county has hired within the fast few years! Inept. Wonder how much it cost taxpayers to hire and train all of them. Apparently Wetzel is buying these ultra-expensive servers in order to turn the county into a #1 data center. Which goes against the grain of government, which should be concerned about costs, not fancy new computer equipment trying to compete with the private sector. According to the anonymous writer, the county currently runs on one Cisco server just fine, but Wetzel is buying four more at a cost of $500,000 each! Arizona Republic reporter Yvonne Wingett gives this outrage a free pass, since the County Supervisors and managers have sidled up to her giving her special access to their offices. What a shame, at least the New Times is reporting this.
