Laura Pastor

An astute reader found this on the Mexican Consulate website – a photo of Laura Pastor, daughter of Congressman Ed Pastor, at a meeting with the Mexican Consulate on March 27th this year.

Laura Pastor is also a candidate for the Phoenix City Council, which of course begs the question, “Why is Laura Pastor meeting with the Mexican Consulate and why are they touting it on their website?” Is she already cutting deals for the City of Phoenix?

While my Spanish is all right, I’d appreciate a quick translation of this posting on Sonoran Alliance in our comments section.

Does Mike Sunnucks hate McCain?

Some in the blobosphere have claimed that this site hates McCain because we cover the news as it happens. I wonder if the criticism also applies to Sunnucks at The Business Journal of Phoenix given today’s article.

Selective coverage.

Recently the Southern Arizona press fell over themselves to cover the story that the Sahuarita Town Council is considering a resolution opposing a permanent Border Patrol checkpoint. The news was covered in print and on radio.

Right at the same time the Nogales City Council voted unanimously in support of the checkpoint. It was hard to find any coverage of this outside of the local paper.

Let’s go over that rule again. Local town considering opposing law enforcement – lots of coverage. Border town wants something done about illegal aliens – little to no coverage. Do they teach this in journalism school or does it just come naturally?

(Thanks to Wake up Arizona for noting this news item on their site.)

RNC to the left of Giuliani and Romney

Amnesty Mel The Washington Times ran a front page story yesterday on how Republican National Committee chair Mel Martinez is criticizing Giuliani and Romney for being too tough on illegal immigration. That’s right, Martinez was not criticizing presidential candidates Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, or Duncan Hunter for their more conservative stances on illegal immigration. He was attacking two of the more liberal Republican candidates for being too conservative. Giuliani or Romney may very likely be the Republican Party’s only chance at keeping the presidency in 2008. The RNC leadership is hopelessly out of touch with Republicans if they are tearing down our two most viable candidates. What happened to attacking Democrats? The RNC has moved considerably to the left under the current leadership with Martinez as chair. If Hillary is elected, no doubt there will be some housecleaning done at the RNC. If they have become so liberal they can’t even get a liberal Republican to win, they’ve become irrelevant.
