…and that’s my point exactly. You’ve got a Governor who is inexplicably popular despite her terrible performance on a growing number of issues–including the deplorable treatment of Veterans on her watch–and you’ve got to use it as a launching point for an attack on a Republican (actually two Republicans). Republicans attacking Republicans will not gain us any ground.

Betsey getting into the gubernatorial race to ensure a Napolitano victory…now that’s a funny one.

STS has it right as far as the long, but not particularly distinguished career of Bayless. She always found a soft landing spot due to her prominent family connections. She was appointed to as many offices as she won through elections. You’re also correct in saying this isn’t about her. Merely drew the parallel between her and her fellow traveler, Gerard. There is not an inch of difference between them and both were well rewarded by Napolitano.

I Still think Gerard will be shown the door.

Betsey’s career was long, period… I’m not sure it would be accurate to refer to it as distinguished. There was actually little to nothing to distinguish it from any of the literally hundreds of other elected officials who have served in Arizona’s various levels of government. She may be a class act, which is good if not completely separate from distinguished, but the fact that the fellow who thumped her in the primary lost by a mere 11,000 votes statewide would really seem to be neither here nor there.

Still, I’m also not sure why she was included in the debate…

There have long been those who thought the Bayless entrance into that 2000 gubernatorial race was strictly to ensure a Napolitano win. Don’t you find it odd that Janet hired Betsey in short order after her loss?

This is just to answer your defense of Ms. Bayless. The issue here is Napolitano, the Veteran Home and who will be the fall guy.

No need to knock Betsey, she has a distinguished career in the public and private sector and would have made a fine governor. As I recall, the guy who beat Betsey in the primary didn’t fare so well against J-No. Betsey’s a class act.

I’m betting that DHS Director Susan Gerard is given the boot. She’s the Republican in the group, albeit a very liberal one. Remember her legacy as a Dist. 18 (now 11) state senator? She was pro-spending, pro-illegal free health care and pro-abortion. And, exactly like Betsey Bayless, another Republican In Name Only, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_In_Name_Only she was given a job by Janet Napolitano after losing her election.

I think the problem Janet has is that L’Ecuyer is the one who had the info and didn’t pass it along. I don’t see Janet firing her — ever. So, the staffer who reported gets the blame for not reporting it more “urgently”. Janet is still somehow incredibly popular, so she can take the hit — which will be marginal — and move on to spending our money.
