On the comments from Pullen about Flake and "pork barrel". What are his thoughts about the $500 + Billion of our tax dollars going to a war in Iraq that has little to nothing to do with hunting down terrorists...and that is "Pork" cubed, with respect to weapons manufacturers, Blackwater USA (an army of privatized combat mercenary combat soldiers), and to host of government contractors that are sucking at the teet of our government coffers.

This oughta let lots and lots of warning lights and sounds off....

But I like Flake a lot. I find him quite courageous and to be an excellent leader. I don't always see eye to eye on everything, but I see him as fair, honest, and passing the reasonable test.

I especially like the fact that he wants to see our policy on Cuba changed. I have read many of his columns about this in the past. Despite the fact that it might undercut Republican support in Florida, rather than towing the lockstep line, he speaks out.

There is no question that our attention to Cuba is soooo hypocritical. We yell loudly about immigration and then let Cubans in by the droves. We talk out of both sides of our mouth about China and Cuba. On one side, engaging in capitalism and trade with China will win hearts and minds and "turn" the country...no such luck with Cuba.

I would grant that human rights violations are far higher in China AND the fact that they are fleeing communism, to me, is no different at all then those flying despotic regimes in other parts of the world.

Anyhow. Kudos to Flake.

A more balanced story would have extolled Flake's stand against Pork Barrel Spending and then explained how he is selling us all out on the number one problem facing our state and country.

U.S. Reps. Jeff Flake (R - AZ) and Luis V. Gutierrez (D - IL), former chair of the 21 Democrat member Congressional Hispanic Caucus, are teaming to introduce the STRIVE Act. (Security Through Regularized Immigration and a Vibrant Economy) Act of 2007.

The term "Comprehensive Immigration Reform," is being used to force-feed amnesty to Americans.

Flake's Folly on immigration reform is hardly a new phenomenom. In May 2005, FLAKE teamed with Gutierrez, then AZ Rep. KOLBE and Sens. McCAIN (R- AZ) and KENNEDY (D -MA) on a Comprehensive Border Security and Immigration Reform bill.

If we lose the very sovereignty of our country, Pork Barrel Spending will be the least of our problems.

Chairman Pullen may be trying to find common ground with the Congressional Delegation, but Flake is owned by the business community (Chamber of Commerce types) who are getting wealthy by hiring illegal aliens and he fights against efforts to have real border security.
