Who here is worried that the FBI usually handles these investigations, while this time the local U.S. attorney is handling it?
I am not the slightest bit worried. I doubt they will find anything about a trip from ten years ago. Now if they were snooping around the U. of A. College Republicans that would be a different story.
Still, how would you like Federal Prosecutors sniffing around just as you were finishing your 22-year career in Congress?
God forbid that the FBI gets labeled as “homophobic!” Don’t be surprised if the word “witch hunt” comes up now.

You’re right; with J. Edgar Hoover as their patron saint, no one would ever expect the FBI to be homophobic — closeted maybe? And the agency has such a sterling reputation on other matters of bias — the civil rights movement, for instance, or the Branch Davidians — that the agency stands high above any suspicion.
